  • If you are losing inches, but not pounds, assess your workouts. Are you including a lot of weight/resistance training? If so, you might be losing the fat, but not weight. That "plateau" might be muscle moving in. Not a bad thing, because you see the change in the fit of your wardrobe. If you have a place that will do one,…
  • The first time I lost a bunch of weight, I went from 240 to 185 (55 lbs) in about 7 months. Of course, I was about 43 at the time, and had finally gotten my sleep apnea under control. The increased sleep and metabolism had the weight dropping off like crazy (along with the help of MFP, 3 mile walks, and a dietary change).…
  • Everyone, even "elite" athletes and bodybuilders, break their diets or splurge now and again. Know why? Because living life and enjoying it is much easier when you actually enjoy it now again at the dinner table, too. Strict diets and dietary guidelines lead to boredom and frustration. Being responsible and letting loose…
  • Ribeye or NY Strip, medium rare, done almost exclusively over wood coals, little s&p to flavor, and topped with sautéed mushrooms and onions.
  • It's tough as hell. I'm 49 as well, and you would think it gets easier, what with women supposedly past all the games and such.
  • After nearly 50 years on this planet, that is one of the best lines of advice I've read, with a good touch of humor thrown in.
  • I assume this means this is a no snowflake/butterfly zone?

  • Hi all. Sunny Florida here.
  • Gin, just on taste. Vodka because I'm actually allergic. 1 shot makes me feel like the next day hangover of a whole bottle binge. Dizzy and head-splitting, almost within 60 minutes of drinking it.
  • If it isn't illegal or directly impacting me, live your life. As the saying goes "So, you want to judge or run my life? Which of my bills are you paying this month?"
  • Paraphrasing a quote I read the other day "It's something that has never been done before, it's a leap into the unknown. When people ask me why, I say we are all going to die, but it's important what you do before you die." Make the journey count folks.
  • Oct, 8 day cruise to Southern Caribbean, if finances agree to it.
  • Something you might not want to hear, but at the same time not a statement on your physical attractiveness; he may have fallen out of love, or was a D-bag and was never in love. "Not Attracted" might have to do with this aspect. I know, because near the end of my marriage, neither of us were "attracted" to the other…
  • I have to say, you looked great in the "before" picture. You carried the 215 quite well. That said, you definitely look fantastic at the now "after" weight of 175. Quite the head turner and can't imagine how much better you'll look in another 20-30 lbs. Wow!!
  • Had my Flex for just over a month now. Holds me very accountable (except this week, recovering from surgery). 15 lbs in 6 weeks so far. www.fitbit.com/user/36NKCG
  • I guess I have cheat days or meals, if looked at that way. I don't get the whole guilt thing, though. Seriously. It's your weight, your journey, not anyone else's. If you backslide, so be it. Beating yourself up over it (i.e. feeling guilty) only leads to this being "work" and not a valid change. We're human, we have…
  • Do you have your MFP profile set to active for job? It'll offset FB input based on settings. FB can be adjusted as well to allow for lifestyle/job.
  • This was me, except I made it easy to make an excuse to be lazy during my coursework. I knew I had time to work out, but I was just plain lazy. I'm paying for it now, because I didn't want to make the time. So, as you see, OP, there is always a way. Are you in class sitting down for 9 1/2 straight hours? Or do you have…
  • I use a FitBit, and while it doesn't actually track distance, it is fairly accurate if you know your stride length. You can enter your walking and/or running stride lengths into your profile and it will determine your distance based on steps recorded and stride length entered.
  • I cheated the other day. Went out for lunch with co-workers. They wanted...Taco Hell. I just ate light and healthy at dinner. Still came in at my goal calories, and had some junk food to feed the craving. Sometimes you gotta do it to keep from binging.
  • USAF, Retired. Additional 8 yrs as a DoD contractor. I have a 14 yr old who runs cross-country, track, and plays basketball. I got out of shape, and need to regain some fitness to keep up with him.
  • Come on down! Pensacola, Panama City, Daytona...all close by
  • Happily single. Now who wants to go for a motorcycle ride in sunny Florida?
  • I think women dread hitting 40 more than men, at least in my experience. I'm 47, and my youngest is a teen, so life is about to really start for me. Besides, men like an older woman; she's not as flighty, or indecisive. And her maturity is starting to match her beauty. So, don't sweat it. You're just hitting your stride,…
  • I worked with a guy who tried the Adkins Diet. Walked around all day eating nothing but Slim Jim's "because any meat product was allowed". Forget that Slim Jim's barely count as a food group, let alone meat, and are almost all fat calories...haha
  • Enjoy the drinks, and don't stress about extra workout, calories, etc. Seriously. If you stress over the extra work or sacrifices you need to make for one day in a week or a month, then the lifestyle changes become too much like work. Besides, the unlogged, and unchecked (i.e. no extra workout or missed meal) release will…
  • Don't let the setback discourage you. Step back, examine your diary and your exercise logs, and see where you got derailed. It happens to all of us at one point. Feel free to add me. More encouragement can only keep you staying positive.
  • $1k is entry level to avid cyclists. My custom-build was around $2200... Anyway, a good bike shop can recommend different styles, sizes, and accessories, and many will even help you with your Walmart/Target purchase. Most want your return business, so they won't snub you when you bring in an dept store bike for a tune up…
  • I'm a butt and leg guy. Those areas can be good indicators of how well you maintain yourself. Boobs, well, you can't really shape and firm them up naturally like you can legs.
