Some really neat goals in here. I'm doing the Twin Cities Open Water Half Marathon Series up here this summer. Really excited for my first 5 mile swim. I'm also going to be looking for a way to do a 2 hour cold water checkout swim, because a friend wants to get an English Channel relay together. My old college's alumni…

Do build 100's without fins and build 50's with fins to train a bit more kick endurance and core strength. I also do kettlebell training (Simple & Sinister) so I get a good amount of goblet squats and double arm swings. Both have helped me build a more explosive push off the wall.

Too busy to post last night, but I swam a broken 2-mile (from 11 lengths down to 1, then back up 1 to 11). 15-30 seconds rest between each except for after the first one I took time to stretch. The last couple I think I took 30-45 seconds rest since pushed 7, 8, 9 pretty hard as I was trying to maintain my pace from 4, 5,…

Since there are 8 total 50's, I'd interpret that as the first length is IM order, so the first 50 would be Fly/Free, second would be Back/Free, etc.

Yep, and by light, he means **LIGHT** - There is absolutely no shame in starting with the bar. Better to start at and stick with just the bar than hurting yourself by starting/progressing too fast.

I log every drink I have, no matter what. This weekend I was at a beer festival. I still logged it all, which is to say I logged what I remembered, plus 25%. That's an ugly day in my diary, but I had the calories, so I have to log it. When I go back through the reports tab I can see that these occasional cheat days don't…

800 to 900 calories seems very excessive to me for only 800 yards. A thread from reddit a while back had something that made a lot of sense to me - that the "vigorous" exercise level should be reserved for when you're past your anaerobic threshold, or when you're at >80% your max heart rate (which is 220 - your age). I…

Wow, second page and nobody has mentioned Digitally Imported? http://di.fm - They have an Android app as well, just search for "digitally imported radio" in the Play Store. Free streaming - they have an ad every 10-15 minutes, but it's only about 10 seconds long and it's usually just an ad for their premium service, which…

I've never stopped swimming for a cold, either. Flu, sure. Throwing up on a flip turn isn't fun. But when I'm sick with a head/nose/throat cold I always welcome the chance to jump in the pool and cough/farmer blow out all the phlegm. Probably a bit gross, but I think it helps a ton.

Definitely get yourself some chlorine removal shampoo. Here's a 4-pack of what I use. I've only ever bought a bottle at a time... but I have significantly less hair on my head ;)…

I hated them with a fiery passion during my college swimming days. You're swimming up an incline. All your weight is distributed completely to your hands. Any natural rolling motion of your stroke is a great way to fall off the bench. The ones I used didn't have the front part on them, they were just two paddles attached…
