At 40, perma-PMS started. Like a very tangible bad mood! That hardly seems to go away. Then night sweats and hot flashes. My cycle has actually been more regular than at any time during my life, except now I get mega cramps and very heavy bleeding about every third month. Last month I was late, so maybe I'm moving on to…

DHEA used to be in Relacore, which I stumbled upon about 15 years ago before I understood about eating right and exercising. (I was looking for a magic pill!). Relacore didn't help with weight management, but it was awesome as a stress reducer and mood elevator! I took it off and on for awhile for stress. But now they have…

It really depends more on bodyweight than height. At 130 lbs, 1200 plus eating back exercise works, but just barely, for loss. Let me explain. My sedentary daily calorie burn is around 1450 calories. To lose 1/2 lb, you have to have a 250 deficit. So that puts my net goal at 1200. (1450-250=1200). Then I add in exercise…

Good perspectives from someone with experience! Thanks for sharing!

Don't you hate trying to find pants that fit both hip and waist??? I always had a small waist compared to my hips until mid thirties. Now it is like all the weight goes right to my mid section! So if your pants fit in the waist, they balloon around your hips. If they fit the hips, they are miserable in the waist. Unless…

What is butt wink? I'm scared to google it. . . .

Absolutely! This must be what it feels like for everyone else, I guess! My appetite before must have been matched to someone twice my size! I'll try not to go on too long! I can't express how totally different it is to have an appropriate appetite! For instance, I just finished a small lunch. I ate lunch not because I was…

Yes pretty close. Actually, I do sedentary 1/2 lb loss + 50 more calories, because that way my goal is not as low on truly sedentary days. I might even could go up 100, but my logging can be a little sloppy, so 50 seems to be working. And I am losing about 0.4 per week. On running days I will have more calories than I can…

This is why I consistently have to go back to the net calorie method. My daily activity is very varied. Some days I'm quite active, and some days I'm mostly at my desk (or on the couch!) I have, with much record keeping, determined an average TDEE, but basically I have had to use trial and error to find the correct net…

For me it works better to set my daily activity lower (not including exercise) and then log and eat back exercise. I also correct for the calories that I would be burning if I was not exercising by subtracting the number of minutes exercised from the calories burned because I know that if I just sit, I burn about 60…

And probably a lot of others of us too!!!!!

I'm down another 0.8 from my last good weigh in day! (2 weeks ago--last week was too hormonal) This is my lowest weigh in day since Christmas! Bodyfat calipers on my waist site are down 0.1 too. I forgot to measure my waist before I had my breakfast and gallon of coffee, so I'm not going to bother with that! Also, I had…

Haha! Probably a long way! You might just want to think of it as "tomorrow is another day" and just move on. Likely you didn't overeat by enough calories to gain a pound (you'd have to eat 3500 calories more than maintenance to actually gain a pound of fat), so don't worry and move on. Remember you are in it for the long…

⬆️⬆️⬆️⬆️⬆️ @snarlingcoyote --hahaha pretty funny, and also fairly accurate! Sorry folks if I sounded a bit harsh above, but this is one of my pet peeves. And really, I think I am pretty realistic about weight and fitness, barring any health concerns, of course. There certainly are people with conditions that affect weight,…

I totally understand. I work hard and make sacrifices to stay fit. I'd like to eat everything they're eating, too, but it is all about choices. Yes, it is hard for them, but it is hard for me too! Years ago I had a very large friend who would complain about being large and how easy I had it staying thin while we filled our…

Have you had Vitamin D checked? I recently (6 weeks ago?) found I was very deficient and doc put me on a huge daily dose. My cravings virtually disappeared, and suddenly my appetite closely matches an appropriate intake of calories! It has been so much easier to stay within my goals. Internet research (gold standard,…

This morning I got a happy surprise. I stepped on the scale and discovered a 6 lb loss! Overnight!! I'll bet I got off and on that scale 15 times and it still showed a loss. Happy dance because I was at goal!!! Then I changed the battery and got back on. Oh well. At least it had still moved a few ounces in the right…

That's a lot to digest (haha)! Okay, so here is my quick takeaway plan, no numbers here, just basic thoughts. (Btw I really like numbers. Understanding the math behind this has been so helpful to me! I'm a math geek, I guess right after being a music geek.) On run days I should be more conscious of carbs in breakfast and…

When you set up your account, you should set it up to NOT include exercise in your activity level. (For instance, I work out 6 days a week, fairly hard, but my account is set to lightly active, because during the rest of the time, just everyday life, I am not very active). Then you log and eat back your exercise calories.…

Aaiieee! I just creeped your profile and you're only two years older than me, one more than my husband! Way too young for this! This is a good lesson for many of us, who think that fitness is the magic bullet that makes us invincible. Sounds like you were "lucky" in several ways! I'm glad things are going well. I wish you…

Ha! As a mother of two competitive swimmers, I should have caught that! How many times have we carb-loaded for meets! And after practice! (After practice snack for 14 yo: 4 pop tarts, huge bowl of ice cream, and two bagels with cream cheese. True story, and that was just before dinner!) I'll have to give that some…

Ha! As a mother of two competitive swimmers, I should have caught that! I'll have to give that some thought--adds more to the balancing act for sure. But more carbs is always good news! I have definitely been noticing for awhile now that I need carbs to feel satisfied. It seemed to be so contrary to the way usually protein…

Thx for the info. It is helpful for me to see the differences between us! Best of luck!

Well, that's kind of what I had thought too, based on what I had read, but yesterday certainly made me think! I went back and looked at dinner stats from the night before. I had plenty of calories overall for the day, (although I am attempting to eat at deficit of about 250-350) and carbs were high enough for the day, but…

⬆️⬆️⬆️⬆️ This. But I definitely think it is "easier" for some body types. I have come to the conclusion that my Bodyfat percentage will have to be crazy low for me to have visible abs because now that I am older, the fat just sits on my middle. I have a healthy bodyfat percentage--about 25%--but every bit of it is on my…

Following since my weight is similar. What is your exercise routine?

More proof of vitamin D at work here?? Read on and see what you think. Today I had an early morning meeting at work, so it was too early for me to eat before I left for work. I tucked a Kind bar into my bag. I wasn't starving or anything, so no big deal. I did pack my normal huge travel jug of coffee though, and I forgot…

@DaniH826 -- i did kettlebell and light-weights-as-cardio and bodyweight type exercise videos to stay at least active during the indoor days, but I just don't get as good a burn (partly because HR is up and down--I use the circuit training numbers from MFP for estimating burn--they were close to what my HRM was saying when…
-
@DaniH826--I agree, it is definitely easier to eat at goal, whatever it is, now that my appetite is appropriate. Notice I said appropriate, not controlled! Yesterday may prove that mine is not quite controlled! Donuts for breakfast and party buffet for dinner. My healthiest choice of the day was spaghetti and meat sauce!…

TDEE is similar to mine. It is tough to figure out when you are short, especially if you don't have much to lose. Glad it is working for you!!
