  • So the last two months the bleeding has lasted two weeks :# One week of spotting and one week of heavy bleeding. This is wreaking havoc on my sex life!
  • Could it be anxiety? It can do some strange things to you, and for no apparent reason!
  • This is some great information! Basically, before middle age, kids, work, etc. hit and decreased my TDEE, this is how I stayed slim for the first 40 years of my life. Somehow, after 40 I managed to get sloppy and develop all kinds of bad habits. So I am logging now. But these are good tips even for those who log, who still…
  • I have the teeny bones (6" wrist, etc), but my build is wide. If I turn sideways I look pretty slim. Not even a whole lot of tummy. But from the front I am just wide! Even when I get down to my goal weight I will be somewhat wide. I guess I had hips made for childbearing! But I could never conceive--adopted my babies!…
  • I have thought about this. Unfortunately I can't seem to get things under control, though. This slow gain has been going on for about 3 years now. (Total of 22 lbs.). So I don't trust that I am doing what works enough to just let it go. I do believe that some of that 22 lb gain has been muscle, because I have not added as…
  • Let's hope so! But that wouldn't explain the tighter shorts, would it?
  • Thought I was done with this thread, as I made good progress in May. But bam! Three weeks of summer and it is all gone, plus I'm up even a bit more. So when summer vacation came, I upped my mileage gradually on my run days. I am up to 6 miles 3 times a week. I'm still slow, but I can do the 6 without walking now, except to…
  • Wow, so many of us! 47 yo, 5'2", 133 lbs. Lost down to 112 5 years ago and maintained for a year using MFP, and then suddenly the rules changed! Now all I do is a slow gain while working my butt off and eating reasonably! And there is so little understanding from those who are either younger or male! I've got to believe it…
  • I have a scheduling question. Ordinarily (when weather and life's schedules cooperate) my routine is as follows: M-W-F run 3-6 miles Tu-Th lift, usually hit whole body Sa-either run or lift depending on schedule, sometimes rest or walk (2 or 3 miles) Su-walk (2 or 3 miles) or rest This works pretty well for me. The problem…
  • I took the pill for most of the first 20 years of my marriage. When I started taking it I noticed an immediate drop in sex drive. When I stopped taking it (my dr doesn't like women over 40 to take it), my face immediately started breaking out again (this did reverse itself with time) but I also noticed a marked decrease in…
  • I always set goals for maintenance for vacations, but keep right on logging to stay accountable.
  • Wow! So many of us! I could have written the op's first post, and several of the others! The calculators don't work for me! I'm currently purposely eating at maintenance and trying to learn to read my own hunger cues. Sometime soon I will go back to deficit to lose those last 8-10! Please add me if you'd like!
  • Interesting, especially as I sometimes have a hard time differentiating between still being (truly) hungry/not satisfied and just wanting more.
  • I have a hard time with this as well. I get up fairly early (between 6 and 7 most days, earlier some days) but I tend to feel sluggish until after 9 or so. And it doesn't matter how much sleep I get. My body is just slow to get going. As a teacher, it works okay for me to just work out in the afternoons during the school…
  • @pepita15-- I too have a lower cal goal when cutting (I'm set at maintenance right now). Here are a few thoughts: 1. I always log exercise and eat back most of the calories. That leaves me with about 1400-1500 total cals most days. 2. To make those cals stretch through the day I eat a small breakfast (250 cals) and a small…
  • When having extreme DOMS on the second day after lifting, which would ordinarily be the next scheduled lifting day, do you recommend pushing on through the soreness and lifting, or waiting another day?
  • That is what makes being smaller tough! I don't do well without breakfast, either. Our total calorie goals have to spread across the entire day. So, to make it work for me I eat a small breakfast (200-250 calories) and lunch (300 calories). Then I have room for a granola bar (150-200 cals) before I run. This keeps me from…
  • It definitely can help with the skin. There is no way to tell about other side effects, either positive or negative. I took it for years and I did not have a problem with it affecting weight either direction. After I quit taking it, I noticed that I felt a lot less anxiety/racing heart, shaky feeling. I have heard of…
  • I'm with you 100%. It is tempting to just cut calories drastically and get it over with. But not as sustainable for sure! And then there is the fact that when you lose 1/2 lb per week, it can totally be masked by water retention, hormones, when you went to the bathroom last, etc. etc. grr!
  • In my opinion it is hard to tell from the pictures, because we all distribute fat differently. My arms and legs look like the 15-22% pictures. But my tummy looks more like 30%. I carry NO FAT AT ALL on my legs and arms. Even when I was at my largest, they were still pretty slim. And then there is the bust issue. I carry a…
  • I tend to agree with @snarlingcoyote. I think the media puts the ideal "thin" out there as just plain skinny, sometimes bordering on unhealthy. I find very very few standards of regular, healthy-weight women out there in the media. If you really look at most of the celebrities and models, they actually are extremely thin,…
  • I have super-active athletic sons (now teens--one swims competitively and plays football, and one swims and runs cross country and track). Getting enough calories to maintain or gain weight has always been an issue for them. The "government approved" meals would be starvation for my guys. It bugs me when I am told what my…
  • You probably will not be able to safely lose at the same fast rate as you get closer to your goal. It is better to slow down to 1/2- 1 lb a week. Check out the group "not-so-heavy girls". It is mostly people who are close to goal, or even at a healthy weight but trying to get leaner.
  • So tonight was another family event. We celebrated hubby's 48th birthday. Fun evening, good food. Good planning (small lunch and a good run) allowed me to enjoy easily and still meet my goals. I am still very thankful to feel satisfied while eating within goal. More pictures. Thankfully these were not unflattering like the…
  • And, once again I complete the cycle of lose 2-3 pounds over a couple of months, then while keeping a similar deficit and exercise routine, turn around and gain 3-5. Even taking into account hormonal/sodium fluctuations, I am up 3-5 lbs since christmas, and 5-7 lbs since last year at this time. Looking back one month,…
  • Athlete-ha! I'm an artist with a fitness habit! I guess I have to decide whether it is worth the difference in price to see changes/trends in body composition. Looks like it is a moot point at the moment, since we unexpectedly had to purchase a new dishwasher. I'll just have to deal with the fact that I get a different…
  • Are you talking the little dimples that are at the top of you buttocks right below the small of your back? I thought everyone had these. But then I don't see other people naked. . . . Hmmmm. Maybe it is just body confirmation/shape/frame?
  • Last month I was just late enough to start to worry. I was giving it another day or two before purchasing a test. Oh the horrors! This month it seems to be early.
  • I weigh daily but look at a weekly average and an official weigh in day to assess progress. I've also come to the conclusion that my arbitrary goal (based on Internet ideal weight calculators) is not necessarily appropriate for my lifestyle. (I eat moderately healthy foods most of the time, but allow myself treats. I…
  • Birth control patches made me seriously crazy with anxiety! Like I could hardly pass anyone on the highway without having an anxiety attack, etc. Pills caused some anxiety, but not as much. I hope to never ever take hormones!
