  • No doubt your food quality makes a huge difference here. If I eat only healthy foods then it is much easier to eat an appropriate amount of calories and not be hungry. One more thought on this matter: regardless of where you stand on appetite regulation, sticking to, say, a 1200 cal goal is always going to be more…
  • I read it that way too. My Fat2Fit app says that healthy bodyfat percentage for females age 41-50 is 23-35%. I don't kow. I do know I would like the way I look better under 23%. But as long as I am in the healthy range the rest is vanity fitness! Not that there is anything wrong with that. I want to be healthy and feel…
  • Maybe the issue is that if we let ourselves become too large, we always want to eat that much again! But, seriously, from a logical standpoint, if everyone's appetite matched their NEEDS, everyone would be at their ideal weight and none of us would be having this discussion. For whatever reason, appetitie goes wrong for…
  • Maybe this is conditioning, upbringing, social cues, not listening to my body, etc, but if I don't stop myself, I can eat as much as my 170 lb 6 ft tall super active 16 year old son. I am 5'2" tall and weigh 132 lbs. If my appetite matched my needs, I wouldn't have a problem! My body needs around 1700 cals a day to…
  • Here's another thought to throw out there--your height can affect how difficult all this is. Now, I know that height doesn't change BMR and calorie requirements, but it does affect ideal weight goals. For instance, at my height (5'2") with a small frame ideal weight is often said to be around 110-115 lbs. On a gal who is…
  • I believe this hits the nail on the head! Especially the part about making molehills out of mountains!! What an awesome attitude. Some people are better at that too! We can all improve but it is definitely a personality thing! OP I had to laugh at the picture your comment about carrying your kids on your back made for me.…
  • The opposite view also offends. I am not nearly as lean as I might like ( read my post above as to whether or not I'm willing to do what it takes--I'm not even sure!), but I am definitely slimmer than a lot of women my age. I find it very offensive when they say things like " oh, you don't have to worry about it, you're…
  • Overall, I think this is good information. But I also think that there are soooo many variables. For instance, did one build a good amount of muscle as a young person? If so, then already they are a step ahead of the person who was a couch potato because their greater lean body mass will increase, at least slightly, their…
  • Monday report--weight steady at 132 from last Monday. Waist up .25. Calipers steady, as far as I can tell. This is good, since I'm still dealing with TOM and mid week last week I hit a new post loss high of 133.8. That night my waist bloated 4 inches! I seriously looked 6 months pregnant with my stomach looking larger than…
  • This is very good! The only point I don't agree with is that "eating with others, especially desserts or treats, helps you minimize calories." (That is not a word for word quote, btw, but close). I tend to eat more when with others. Maybe it is because the others I am often with are all active males with healthy fast…
  • When you are small, both loss and gain show much more quickly, becuse your relative rate of change is greater. (You are changing bodyweight by a greater percentage). But losing is much much harder when you are small or close to goal.
  • Well, the appetite is back as I would expect for the time of month it is. But the soreness/muscle pain still seems better! I will continue to monitor. Since it IS TOM, I won't give a weight/progress report. :(
  • I don't know if this is the placebo effect, or if there are other factors, etc. But let me throw out these observations: After one large dose of D3 (I am to take a large dose daily) the next morning I noticed a marked difference in soreness. This is even after a long run--I am trying to build my running back up after being…
  • 47 years old. 5'2.5". Currently 132. Goal is 125 and then reassess. I got down to 112 a few years back. My body looked great, but at my age, the face suffered! (At age 20 I weighed 102 and didn't haven he family ex problem, lol). Also, 112 was very difficult to maintain. I had to eat around 1400 calories or exercise…
  • This is very good advice. I LOVE MFP, but the calorie goals can be skewed for older shorter women, especially if we don't have a lot to lose. @Vailara explained it really well. Find a good TDEE calculator (freedieting.com and scooby's workshop are good. There is also a good, very detailed one on the "in place of. Roadmap"…
  • This is all new territory for me. I have never really been into the herbal or alternative remedies type thing, so I've never really paid much attention to how vitamins are important! I guess I will be learning. I do think that there is wisdom in nutrition and herbal medicines, etc that our mainstream medicine just…
  • The more I read about D the more interesting it becomes. Of course, the symptoms are pretty general, so who knows. Most of these things are small, and I've been blaming them on perimenopause. But the sleep quality, for instance. How awesome if that improved! Not that I have a problem FALLING asleep. Most nights I fall…
  • @Sabine_Stroehm‌ do you have any symptoms that you noticed? And can you tell if it changes anything for you, other than the blood test? Also, any side effects from the vitamin? My doc reccomended the D3--4000 IU daily.
  • Interesting, and good to know. . . . . As I mentioned above, I had my yearly last week, and I asked my ob/GYN to do a thyroid test because of the difficulty I have had with trying to lose, and even manage, my weight. She agreed, and then said, "I'll run a vitamin D test also because that can be an issue in weight gain…
  • @Ari112233, that surely is frustrating! I've never had my metabolism tested, but Mifflin St. Jouer estimates a BMR of around 1180 for me. I don't know about RMR. But as for your maintenance, that doesn't sound far off from me. I'm very pleased to say that for three weeks in a row, on my weigh in day I have seen a drop.…
  • No kidding! I thought I was running 10 minute miles and really they were closer to 12 minute miles!
  • MFP is pretty close to what my HRM gave me, when I was using it. At least for running and other cardio. But neither of them subtracts the calories that you would be burning in that time if you were not exercising. And those are already counted in your goal. For me, I figure I would be burning about 1 calorie per minute…
  • I used the MFP method (net calorie goal, logged exercise calories, ate them back) to lose my weight initially. Doing it that way helped me to develop good exercise habits, since I was highly motivated to exercise in order to earn more calories to supplement my eating goal! Through using this method, I not only lost 40+…
  • Hi, I wish I really had an answer for you! What I do know is that the struggle is real! I lost 40+lbs 5 years ago following MFP reccommendations (I was 42 then). It wasn't easy, but it worked fairly predictably. Then three years ago, it was like the rules changed for my body. I gained almost 20 lbs back, even though I am…
  • ⬆️⬆️⬆️ Exactly! My goal is on the middle of the healthy bmi and actually on the high sideof ideal weight if you look at what is reccommended for small frames of my height. I would love to be at what is reccomended for my frame size, but I am realistic enough to know that either my calorie goal would be too low for me to…
  • Yes, I must think outside the box! I'm certainly a creature of habit, and that can hamper results. One of the most helpful things I have done is the record keeping of diet and weight. Comparing intake one week to what happens the next. After I got my misfit, I really started doing this in detail, and it has been very…
  • Just a thought: this whole process would be SOOO much easier if I could set my own eating schedule! For example, yesterday afternoon/evening, after my run and after I got completely cooled down, I had a larger than normal snack, more of a mini meal, because I knew supper would be quite late (7:30 or 8:00 ish). So by the…
  • Monday update: kept average total calories to 1350 last week! Staying on a steady calorie goal, instead of relying on exercise to increase my goal is getting easier. Who knew that would be such a challenge! In the long run I think it will be better though. This morning my weight is down 0.2 lbs from last week to 132.4.…
  • @EPK1071‌ what autoimmune issue do you have? I was diagnosed with mild lupus which my doctor put on my chart as autoimmune syndrome to keep me from being flagged by insurance companies. I've been in remission for over 10 years now, but I wonder if that could contribute!
  • I stopped doing net calories and eating back calories only recently (in the past 6 months or so). I initially lost my weight doing net calories and following MFP numbers. I actually like that concept better. In my mind it seems more precise! I changed for two reasons: 1-it stopped working. 2-on rest days I was having to…
