  • I like Zoi honey-flavored Greek yogurt, too. It's a local western Washington brand, so I don't know if it's widely available. Greek God's is good.
  • When my daughters were working with their horses and wanted to change a horse's behavior or bad habit, I always said, "Work on it for 30 (or 60 days) and see what difference it makes." Just wishing for something different seldom results in any progress. I was the same way for the last few years with weight loss--just…
  • I got the Ryka toning shoes to wear at work (standing and walking a lot). I can't tell if they're toning, but my feet feel good in them, and they have good arch support and cushioning, and promote good posture.
  • I've been keeping carbs <100 in the 1400-1500 calorie range (including exercise calories). The weight is steadily coming off. I set my carbs at 25% which gives me 75 g at 1200. I've also been keeping sodium <1500, and meeting my net calorie goal. My exercise is mostly walking 30-40 minutes per day and yard work, with…
  • I'm doing Primal Blueprint (marksdailyapple.com) and keeping carbs 75-100 g/day, which is working for me. You have to customize your food diary settings, if you want something different from what MFP assigns. (MFP has carbs set relatively high).

  • You are on the right track. Check out marksdailyapple.com for more good food ideas for eating lower carb. I've been keeping my carbs <100 g for almost 2 months. The weight is coming off easily, I'm enjoying what I'm eating, and not feeling deprived at all.
  • I work the evening shift as a medical laboratory technologist at a university hospital laboratory. Depending on my assigned workstation, I can be sitting most of the shift, standing/walking a lot, or somewhere in between. Since I have my mornings and early afternoons free, it's great for getting outside for walking and…
  • It depends on what else you are eating that has carbs. When I eat a honey-sweetened Greek yogurt, I have to limit my fruit to 2 small servings--1/2 apple, half grapefruit, or 1/2 pear, and 1 cup of raspberries, blackberries, or blueberries. Play around with the custom settings on your food page. I set my carbs to the…
  • I've been doing Primal Blueprint (marksdailyapple.com) for almost 2 months. Keeping carbs <100 g per day has the weight coming off steadily. I've eliminated grains, white potatoes, dry beans, rice, bread. I am eating many fresh vegetables and a couple of small servings of fruit each day. I do use dairy. I'm eating simply…
  • I had the luck of finding a challenge on the Fitness and Motivation forum that was starting a few days after I joined. We're on our second challenge together ,and it REALLY makes a difference. Check out "6 Week Challenge: Spring into Fitness, Part 2"--you'd be more than welcome to join us. This one is going through 4/25…

  • My daughter had similar problems with a pair of glasses that had been mailed to her because she was at college (had her eyes tested when she was home on break--wouldn't you know that's the only pair she ever had a problem with!). She took her glasses, new and old, to a different optometrist and had them measured for some…
  • Use a scale and measuring cups. Also, you can enter homemade recipes into your own recipe tab on your MFP Food page, and it will calculate the calories and nutrients per serving.
  • Knight wouldn't get on the trailer, so he's not coming today. Not sure what's happening in that department. So, to work off my excess energy, I walked 33 minutes, did my strength exercises, and cleaned my basement sewing room.
  • I have a vintage Pelouze "ice cream" scale like this one, that I found at a thrift store. Measures in ounces up to 2 lbs., works great. Almost any well-made small food scale will help you with your portions. http://www.etsy.com/listing/69992714/vintage-pelouze-ice-cream-scale
  • Water. It's free, and zero calories.
  • I'm doing low carb and avoiding pasta--gonna have to try this. It sounds good!
  • titlenine.com and Champion brand. Look for the maximum support/minimum bounce bras. I've been wearing this bra for horseback riding and jogging, my DDs also used it for Irish dancing. http://www.titlenine.com/product/sports-bras-at-title-nine/shop-sports-bras-by-cup-size/dd-cup-bras/310305.do?sortby=ourPicks&page=2
  • Yeah, cottage cheese really high in sodium. I was thinking it would be a good high protein food to use often, but then I looked carefully at the nutrition stats--440 mg of sodium for 1/2 cup! Greek yogurt is much better for a dairy protein source, especially if you eat the unsweetened kind. To keep sodium <1500 mg, I eat a…
  • I belong to quilting groups at two churches. We make quilts that go overseas with a church relief agency and locally to a women's shelter, vets' shelter, and nursing home.
  • I didn't mean for you to do regular exercise with the backpack of "lost" weight. It's just a one time thing to give you some "atta-girls" and motivation to keep going. Reading through the Primal Fitness E-book, I learned that what I've been doing with walking and yard work, and soon will be doing with riding and horse…
  • Make the best choices of what food is available, watch your portions, pack some healthier snacks, drink water instead of soda or beer. Walking around between games is a great idea to get in some exercise. Maintaining your food and exercise plan in new situations is good practice for the rest of your life. Enjoy your time…

  • I've been taking biotin for about a month, mainly for my nails. We feed it to our horses to make their hooves strong, and the usual first place to see improvement is their hair coat. I will watch for changes in my hair, too.
  • For those of you with thinning hair, do you have a father with male pattern baldness? It's carried on the X chromosome, so it affects women, too, just not quite as drastically as it does men. My dad was quite bald, and in my late 30's/early 40's, I experienced hair thinning. It's not patchy or really noticeable, but my…
  • Olivia, yes, it feels wonderful! I credit Primal Blueprint for the food plan and this challenge group for keeping me motivated to exercise. Knight (my BLM mustang) should be here on Wednesday! Can you tell I'm excited??
  • I worked on the Primal Fitness exercises today. It's a good thing that they are a gradual progression for out-of-shape beginners. I'm certainly not as strong as I was when I was 18. If you sign up for the Primal Blueprint newsletter, you can download an E-book entitled "Primal Blueprint Fitness". It includes the five…
  • I plan my day's meals every morning, so I know I'll be able to meet my daily calorie and nutrient goals.
  • I took about 2 weeks off exercise after the same sort of surgery (you'll need it!), then started carefully cleaning my horse's stall again, making sure I didn't lift more than 10 lbs per fork load, taking my time, and letting someone else push the full cart. I had also been riding daily before surgery, so I already had a…
