I've had good weight loss results post-menopause using the Primal Blueprint food plan--eating more animal protein and good fats, plenty of fresh veggies and fruits, while avoiding potatoes, beans, and grains, limiting bread, and keeping my carb intake at 75-100 g per day for "effortless weight loss". For maintenance, the…

I have a very thin friend who is always cold, she knew she was having a hot flash when she felt comfortably warm--LOL

Finally found the marksdailyapple exercises; this is the link to the pushup, but the rest of them are linked on this page. http://www.marksdailyapple.com/how-to-proper-pushup-technique/

Spring into Fitness SW 197.6 3/21 193.4 3/28 191.2 down 2.2 from last week Last week, I had found some strength exercises (pushups, chinups, etc.) on Marksdailyapple, com that had progressive modifications for beginners. Of course, I can't find the page now, but I'll keep looking and share. I'm aiming for <100 g carbs,…

Just wanted to let you all know that it looks like there's light at the end of my "hot flash tunnel". I'm 58, and for the past few months it seems like the hot flashes are getting fewer and fewer. For the past 10 years I've joked, "I'm always too warm, so if I'm cold, the room/weather is REALLY chilly." I don't know if the…

I just packed my small backpack with 24.8 lbs. of kitchen staples (sugar, etc.) and took a walk around and up the stairs. Wow, what a difference! No wonder my knees hurt, my back was cranky, and I got out of breath doing much of anything. I don't want that weight back! Not only that, but my fitness level has improved quite…

Put the equivalent of your weight loss in a back pack and carry it around for a little while. If that's not a motivator to keep up your exercise program, I don't know what is!

Counting last Sunday, I have 3821 calories burned from exercise this week (8 days). Thanks to olivia's challenge, I've upped my walking to 45 minutes from 30, and my pace to 3.75 just walking and to 4.0 mph by including jog sprints. The food colors challenge has been fun. To add to my stash of colorful foods, at Costco…

Hi all, Here are the Spring into Fitness challenges for the week of Mar 28 - Apr 3. Fitness goal: Add some strength-training/weight-lifting exercises to your workouts 3 times this week. If you are already doing so, try a different exercise or increase reps or weights. Food goal: Choose one or two of the nutrient goals in…

Did some stair walking on my dinner break at work--wow, that really takes effort!

It was raining, and I had errands to do before I headed to work, so I took the day off from serious exercise. I'll finish up my 3500 calories for the week tomorrow. My horse should be arriving within the next week, so I'll be back to my FUN exercise of riding and taking care of him.

I always plan my meals first thing in the morning. Most days, I'm taking my dinner to work, and I seldom eat out, so that makes it easier.

I'm with you all on losing the belly, but I don't care about bikinis--I want to look good in my form-fitting riding pants someday soon! The weatherman has predicted rain nearly every day this week, but today is another good one--sunny, but cool enough to make outdoor exercise very pleasant. I did my walk today in 43.5…

I love blue cheese dressing, but it's so thick that it takes a lot on a large salad. I thin 1 tablespoon dressing with a bit of milk, shake to blend, and pour. Then, a little goes a long ways

I got my Ryka toning shoes at Costco and wear them at work (I'm on my feet a lot). They are very comfortable with good arch support and super cushioning. I wore them on one outdoor walk, and didn't like that they slowed me down a bit.

I get off work at midnight and I ALWAYS eat something when I get home. It used to be anything and everything--and way too much, but now I plan ahead of time what my midnight snack will be so I stay within my calorie goals. I'm usually up for another hour after I eat, but eating at night doesn't seem to make any difference…

Yard work, house cleaning, walking.

47 minutes walking, 47 minutes lawn mowing (the first for the season). All the walking I've done the last 2 months has paid off--last summer it was taking about an hour to do the lawn, and I'd be wiped out. I did it in addition to my walk, and I'm tired, but not exhausted. Still getting the colors in my food. Off to work…

Once I hit the 20 lb. mark, people have noticed. I can finally see a bit of difference, too, but I just put ON the last 20 over the winter, so I'm just a little below what I weighed last summer. I probably won't see "improvement" until I'm down another 10 or 20 lbs. and out of the weight range I've been for the last…

47 minute walk, 40 minutes yard work = 555 calories burned and colors in my food. Sun is shining today!

Something in my brain is changing with the weight loss and healthy food plan. On Sunday, I fully intended to have a "spike day" and eat more than my net calories, and I found I just didn't want to or feel like doing it. Today, we had a class at work and our supervisor always brings lots of mini-candy bars, but I just…

Walked for 47 minutes, and spent 35 minutes on yard work for 526 calories burned. I'm definitely getting all my colors in my meals today. Olivia, I'm revising my goal weight for this challenge to 185.

Mature Multivitamin/mineral for general health Glucosamine/chondroitin for joints Fish oil for omega 3's Cinnamon for blood sugar/insulin regulation Calcium w/ Vit D for bones Biotin for nails/hair

I got just under 500 calories burned yesterday with yard work, cleaning, and a short walk, and just over today with more cleaning and a longer walk. At this rate, my house and yard are going to really be ready for spring! I topped my breakfast quiche with some extra veggies, and my main meal salad had at least 8 different…

I evaluate whether exercise makes me feel better or hurts more, especially if it's a new or different pain. When I started walking a couple months ago, my hip felt tight and uncomfortable, but now that I'm walking 30-45 minutes a day at 3.5+ mph, it doesn't bother me at all. My knees and back feel better or worse depending…

3/14/11 SW 197.6 3/21/11 CW193.8 Didn't eat out last week, and avoided the take-out foods at the potluck. Walked an extra 15 minutes every day in addition to other exercise--the walking is becoming a habit! Olivia's exercise challenge is going to take some effort, but I'll give it a go. Thanks for the head start!

I've only had bread once this week, and it really makes keeping the carbs down to 100g much easier.

Olivia, I've been doing the colors thing for my dinner ever since I got on the whole foods kick. I try to get at least 5, and usually 8 different vegetables in my dinner salad or raw veggie container, plus a couple of colorful fruits during the day. In addition to knowing there are good vitamins in them, it just makes me…

I'm Rose and I am 58. I was going through menopause in my early 50's, about the time my younger daughter hit puberty. I mostly had hot flashes and some night sweats, but in the past year those have really tapered off. I have been overweight since my children were born, but was staying reasonably fit and strong caring for…

I make a whole recipe of an entree/meat I like that fits my food plan and freeze in single portions. Then, it's easy to grab one of "your" entrees to microwave/heat while you cook your family's meal. Check out the Recipe Tab on the Food Diary page--if you enter your own recipes, it will calculate the nutritional…
