Has anyone tried the Philips DirectLife? Their description sounds more like what I need, but I don't know if it works as well as claimed.

What I want to know is whether the Fitbit tells you how many calories you have burned when you are doing cardio, circuit training, CrossFit, and anything else like that. Or is it just a glorified pedometer that is dependent on number of steps? I'm having trouble estimating my actual workout calories. Added later: I did try…

Focus on other things, like work, school, hobbies, friendships, family, spiritual things ... set new goals in other areas of your life. Our lives cannot be measured in pounds and inches anyway.

I'm no expert, but I know everyone is going to notice that you are not logging in your food, when they go to look at your diary. Logging your food and exercise is really important. For one thing, it's the only way anyone can give you any valuable advice. They will also want to know how many calories you are aiming to eat…

Starbuck's Mocha Via with 1% milk (1/2 c.) and water (1/2 c.). Helps me stop grazing.

How about eggs? Egg salad, omelettes, etc. You could use extra egg whites for less fat.

You shouldn't really hope to lose anything in just 2 weeks. If you lose weight in 2 weeks, it will just be water weight and glycogen stores (which will come right back as soon as you binge or go off the diet). And you will only succeed in slowing down your metabolism, making it harder to lose any real weight. But 2 weeks…

Sounds like a good plan. Let us know how it works out.

I agree with you that people need to read the posts carefully before responding. People's responses should be thoughtful. However, I personally am grateful that people have pointed out this whole thing about not eating enough. It has already been tremendously helpful to me and as I make changes to my diet to eat more, I am…

I ate a couple of extra (big) snickerdoodle cookies yesterday and then decided to go ahead and do an extra workout video so I could keep my calories right for the day. I did a relatively easy one (Leslie Sansone walking), but I nevertheless got the calories back in the black, and I felt a lot better physically and…

I just looked at about a week of your diary. It looks like you could use a bigger variety of fresh vegetables and fruit, things like carrots, tomatoes, zucchini, broccoli, kale, mixed greens, tangerines, grapes, blueberries (all kinds of berries, really); also yellow vegetables like squash (any kind of squash is really…

Thank you. That makes sense.

Thanks to the person above who suggested Fitness Blenders. I have started doing their workouts every day and it is fabulous. I purchased the first set of workout plans. I haven't worked so hard in years! (Of course, you don't have to purchase the plan, you can do all the workouts you want for free! When you buy the workout…

I'm new to all of this too. It has to do with "metabolic damage," meaning that when we consistently don't eat enough, because we are dieting, we mess up our metabolism. Our bodies start reacting to that by being really good at storing fat, releasing various hormones and so forth. And that makes it extremely hard to lose…

For a while I liked doing the workouts on BobHarper.com. It's a subscription thing, $9.95 a month automatically deducted from your credit/debit card until you cancel, but there are tons of workout videos and other things, like Bob doing 2-minute cooking videos, instructions for doing other workouts at home besides the tons…

That's a good question. I have the same problem. My BMR is about 1400, but MFP is telling me to eat 1200 calories a day to meet my goal, which of course increases when I exercise. But if my BMR is 1400, shouldn't I have to eat at least that much just to survive? I hope someone will step in to clear up our confusion.

Thanks! I watched the video you suggested and read the article. Both are very helpful. I appreciate your time.

I am new to this site and learning a lot of things that I never heard of before. There are some threads with links posted at the top of this category, for example, that present a theory about metabolism and eating enough. For example, see http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/3047-700-calories-a-day-and-not-losing. I am…

In the past I would have come up with all kinds of strategies to avoid eating. After a couple of weeks reading and learning from other people here on this site, I would say something completely different: I'd get some exercise and go ahead and eat. We're supposed to be eating all of our allotted calories. If I get some…

bump ... (because I'm still hoping for some insight from the smart people here!)

Thanks to everyone for your responses. They are very helpful!

Another thought: If your insurance will cover physical therapy, you could go and get instructions for exercises that are safe for you to do. After you learn how to do them, you can practice them at home. If your insurance will not cover it, and you can afford two or three visits out-of-pocket, it would still be worth it. A…

Getting some exercise may seem impossible if it hurts to do it. But if there is something you can do that does not hurt, then do that, and then you may find yourself feeling better so that you can do a little bit more the next week. Even if it's just getting up out of your chair a few times and sitting down again. Or…

If you take a break and do 10 minutes of exercise, like running up and down stairs, doing jumping jacks, walking or running in place, etc., you not only get rid of the boredom but "earn" calories that you can eat. There are a lot of workout videos with 6-minute or 10-minute segments. Figure out how many calories these…

The exact same thing has been happening with me, but I have been reading some of the links in the posts at the top of the list of threads for this "General Diet and Weight Loss Help" category, and I'm about to change my whole approach. The main idea, from what I'm gathering, is that MFP has already factored in a calorie…

I almost hate to ask, but, what is Insanity and where can I find out about it?
