Maybe Fate/Zero, Madoka Magica, Baccano? Not at all similar to your examples in terms of setting, but they fit your "follow a set plot" criteria. Though Baccano jumps from POV to POV, and doesn't follow chronological order a lot...

First ever intro to anime: Doraemon, the 1979 series. My mom introduced me to that paired with the several volumes of Chinese-translated manga she had of it. As for what got me into it, I guess most of the usual mahou shoujo stuff like Sailor Moon and Cardcaptor Sakura. I still watch anime often, but more for the sakuga…
