Stable isotopes are used to make inferences about the diet in past human populations. Generally these are Carbon and Nitrogen and can tell us what kind of diet a person had. It is generally said "you are what you eat", plant crops, land animals and marine animals have there own isotopic signature which is left in the bone…

Please, please let me HOW you can tell this from human skeletal remains?!?! (I would love to know so I can make a new career from this!) Yes, we can tell a certain amount from the bones but we cannot see whether the people had "Type 2 diabetes, coronary heart disease and cerebrovascular disease" this is not visible in the…

This is very important, and raises the question of whether there is an inherent genetic difference and therefore females and males would require different foods OR these differences are cultural and therefore there should be no difference from a biological sense.

Very interesting.... I was thinking about this exact thing over the weekend. I am a bioarchaeologist, studying the impact on human health with the intensification of rice agriculture in mainland Southeast Asia. So, I have a vested interest in this topic and enjoy reading scientific articles about the subject. Although I…

Ahhh... it's in American! Yes, thank you!

I get the same way, but I don't find that it lasts very long. I don't think it's anything to worry about, it's just your bodies way of loosing the heat. I'm getting a cold person in my hands and toes but get very hot when I exercise. Are you like that? But I have known my heart rate to reach 190 (I'm 27) on the X-trainer…

 lol! Of course there is! But not on the way home.... that's all uphill. The downhill bit is going to work in the morning, I have a slight rise to get out of my street and then it's all down!!! Mostly freestyle, apart setting off from junctions and lights. I think I'll just have to get a HRM to fully understand how…

Ummmm... I never thought about that, it's a good idea. But the timing would be wrong as I travel a different way down the hill than I do going back up the hill.
-
Perhaps... but surely you would exert more energy cycling up hill compared with on the flat??? Even if traveling at the same speed.

I had a similar question too... I don't eat any "bad" sugars but always high or over on the sugar value from eating a fair bit of fruit. I read something recently, which questions the use of tropical fruits (sorry apples not included in this discussion):…

I'm a petite 5ft 1'. At the moment I'm 132lbs, my heaviest has been at 141Ibs. My slimmest has been at 118lbs and I was very happy with my weight there with only 19% body fat ... a great and achievable goal!

Sorry... I looked at the vest too. My mind must have been on the bras?! It's Sunday, so maybe I can get away with not using my brain today :-s
-
I was just looking at the deals... I was going to buy until I read the discussion. It is worth it! Seems like these bras are very poor quality and people say that they are only good enough to wear around the house. Very disappointing :-(

Hi, Good to finally join a group close to home. I've been a member for a while now but keep flitting in and out of journal keeping. But have decided to finally loose the weight I've slowly gained over the last couple of years. Last year I kinda did the 21-day challenge by Damian Kristof and loved it! The diet is so healthy…

Great Message and a good challenge. I've never had a problem drinking water, sometimes I find myself drinking so much I end up going to the bathroom every 40 minutes. This is the story at work anyway, I always have a 1 litre bottle of water on my desk and just drink and drink - probably around 2 a day but sometimes 3. At…

Hi all, I've just joined up. Never done anything like this before.... hopefully it will give me the motivation and encouragement to stay on track. Never sure where to take the measurements... I took the widest part of my hips/thighs for the hip measurement. Any advise as to what others do?
