Great half marathon jcurrie17. I was registered but had to defer it to next year after I injured my hip flexor. My husband ran the full marathon and said that the support and organization was great. Perhaps I will see you next year.

I am not in the UK but jumping in to say that I don't think you are ever too old to run a half marathon. I began running in December 2013 at age 66. Ran my first half six months later and my second half four months after that. Now I am training for another half in May and my fourth one in July. I am slow but love running…

I am a relatively new runner - began with C25K in December 2013. My flat feet need a more stable shoe than some. Anyway, I began wearing Mizuno, then switched to Saucony and I am currently wearing a New Balance shoe. Each time I changed I was re-fit for shoes. The one time I ordered the same shoe in a new model I had to…

Our winter has been milder than usual so I haven't had to make that decision this year. I can run outside to around 15 degrees by wearing a wool scarf over the lower part of my face. It prevents the cold air from getting to my lungs - I also have asthma. Our local running store also sells a hood that covers everything…

When I was in the process of losing a large amount of weight I had to buy new running bras quite often. And as been offered already, I use BodyGlide in those areas that will chafe (even with a good running bra) for longer runs. Our local running store has a woman who knows how to correctly fit a running bra and since…

I agree about Matt Fitzgerald's books. Also his book about Half Marathon and Marathon Nutrition.

If I am understanding the original statement, she is saying that the personal trainer she worked with at the gym was not encouraging of her being a runner??? If so, I have experienced a similar situation. Some trainers concentrate on strengthening and body building - but ignore the running side. I need the strengthening…

I have them, like them and as STrooper said they are good for mixed surfaces. A friend who has had two knee surgeries also uses them. She said that they relieve her anxiety about running on less than ideal surfaces. We run outside all year and use them when the running trail is snowy/icy.

Missoula Montana half and full marathon is in July. It starts early - 6:00 for the full and 6:30 for the half - and is a flat course. Friends of mine have run this race and said it an awesome race to run - a fast course, point to point and with great support. My husband and I are registered to run the half this year. Happy…

I began running last December by participating in a C25K course through my local running store. 2014 was a year of firsts - first 5k, 5 mile, 10k, 12k trail race, half marathon - all using the run/walk method. My hope for 2015 is to stay injury free and run a few more races than I did in 2014. I have been reading Matt…

I am reading Matt Fitzgerald's book "80/20 Running" and he talks about the same thing.

Shorter distance this weekend - doing a 10k in Spokane this morning.

I spent 13 months losing 77 pounds to get to my goal weight. Then I decided to take off an additional ten pounds. My personal trainer said it would take time.....and it has. After 2 1/2 months I have lost only 4 more pounds and I am still eating at a deficit. All this to say, don't get discouraged. It will come off but…

Thanks for the great report Steve. I love reading of other people's running experiences. I am past the half century age wise. However, my husband has decided that in celebration of 50 years of marriage (June 2016) we will run a marathon together.

I am running the Coeur d'Alene Kroc Center 5K on Saturday.

Loved the long story!

I use the GU brand gels for my long runs. When I was preparing for my first half marathon I had severe cramping in my calves and found the gels helped to eliminate the cramping. Not everyone needs to fuel however. For me it was a matter of trying several things until I found one that worked. On my last half I ran cramp…

I am 67 and began running last December at the age of 66. I was introduced to running by my local Fleet Feet store after buying a pair of shoes for walking when I began the process of losing weight. The owner and my coach for a C25K class and a 101 Half-Marathon class calls me a "freshman" runner. He thinks that my speed…

I don't know about exercising to maintain my weight......but I took up running last December at age 66 and I love it. I also work with a personal trainer twice a week doing strength training. All of this helped me to lose 80 pounds in a year.

Thanks for the question. I have been wondering the same thing myself. I completed my second half marathon last weekend and have no other races this year unless some short holiday themed 5ks put on by my local Fleet Feet store. I began running by taking a C25K class through Fleet Feet followed by a 5K race. Then two weeks…

I am running my second half-marathon on Sunday. It will be the first time I have run alone.....without my training partner and husband.

Sandpoint Scenic Half Marathon - Sandpoint, Idaho - September 21 Only my second half-marathon and hopefully faster than my first one!

As I got closer to my goal, my weight loss slowed considerably. However, being a numbers person I could not quit. Then I decided to attempt to lose another 10 pounds to help me run stronger/faster. So I am once again trying to lose weight. Funny but the last 2.4 pounds to my original goal took four weeks. But the next 1.8…

I am so happy for you. I did not begin running until I was 66. Since December I have competed in a 5K, 5 mile, 12K and half-marathon. Now I am preparing for another half-marathon. I look forward to hearing how you are doing. Best wishes!

I am 66 and did not start running until last December when I enrolled in a C25K class at our local Fleet Feet store. Everyone in the class was so supportive and encouraging.....despite my slowness.....that I was not embarrassed to continue running. At the end of the class I ran my first 5K. Since then I have completed a 5…

That is the best feeling! Congratulations!

I do both - and find that it has helped me to lose weight and tone, my older body, more effciently. When I began on MFP last July (2013) I also began working with a personal trainer. The first 4 1/2 months were just weight training, no running, and of course counting calories. Then early in December I was introduced to a…
