I agree. I am 5 weeks in. I feel SO much better. I am working on establishing healthier routines and lifestyle as well. The weight is coming off more slowly than previous crash diet attempts. But this way of life is sustainable for me. So while it will take me longer to get there I can keep it up so that I do make it…

Pootlermse - “The other thing that surprised me, and this is the biggest one, is that it wasn't necessarily true what people keep saying: that you won't love yourself or be any more happy with who you are when you lose weight. I have a history of mental health problems, and this ought to have been true for me, but it just…

Logging. It has obviously helped me stay on target. But it also helped me realize how many calories I was consuming while prepping meals and cleaning up. Especially at dinner. I would be hungry after work and eat a few bites while cooking or instead of throwing away food eat the last few bites in the pan. I have quit all…

I don’t buy convenience items ie - nothing individually packaged. I can make my own for a lot cheaper. I buy and freeze items when on sale. I got a ton of fresh strawberries a few weeks ago and froze them for later. I buy meat when it is on sale and freeze. I use vacuum sealer and it keeps it from getting freezer burned. I…

Another thought - In previous attempts I always felt guilty for eating. Which is insane because we need food. But logging made me feel that way. This time I am using my logged food as data. What made me feel full? Which weeks brought on the best loss and what did my food/exercise look like that week? And now, on days that…

I have posted this on a few different posts lately but it is worth repeating. Failure is simply the opportunity to begin again, this time more intelligently. - Henry Ford I failed so many times that I thought I didn’t have it in me to lose weight. I got some wonky lab numbers at my last Dr appt and decided I wanted to…

“Failure is simply the opportunity to begin again, this time more intelligently." - Henry Ford I have dropped the ball on many attempts over the past 5 years. I then got myself thinking it wasn’t possible for me. But I want to be healthy so I decided to try again. But this time more intelligently. I looked back to try to…

60 lbs in 6 months - great job!! I work in a school as well. I need to lose about 55 lbs. Your post was very inspiring.

My husband knows and is supportive. My kids know we are adjusting the way we eat to include more fresh foods but I am not talking to them about my weight loss. The only other person is my sister in law who is working to lose as well and we are supporting each other. I don’t intend to tell anyone else. If anyone mentions my…

I want to get our family photos taken and look good. Also I want to enjoy finding an outfit for it and not be near tears like last time.

Such great information. Thank you. I love the ski pole suggestion.

So many variables to think about 😩. Thank you to everyone for your input. I may be over doing the water. I am going to start tracking that. Definitely hot out so that may be part of it. I have been outside a lot. I read that when you exercise your cortisol levels can increase which can add to water retention. Hopefully I…

I am only a month in and 7 lbs down but what I have found (and nobody told me about) is that I want every overweight person to go down this path. I went to the pool with my kids this last weekend. And I saw so many heavy people (myself included - not judging). I wanted to talk to them all about how much better I feel even…

My next mini goal is getting under 180 lbs and consistently staying under (no bumps back up). I have my goals broken down into 5 pound increments and only consider them met when I stay under for 2 weeks. It is my way of not getting discouraged by ups/downs. Looking at more the moving average, I guess.
-
That is good to know. I will start to track my water. Thank you.
-
Also - I drink a LOT of water. I couldn’t tell you how much. But I have a 16 oz cup I fill over and over and over. And it is not the time of month where I normally notice water retention. But I can not rule out hormones.

I am not an expert and don’t claim to be. But I have found the habits I have established have become easier to keep up. Easy? No. But I got some wonky lab results and decided that living with the results of not doing it (stroke, diabetes, arthritis, etc) won’t be easy either. So I am choosing this version of hard. You…

I have started down this path many times. Failure is simply the opportunity to begin again this time more intelligently (Henry Ford). I have looked back at past attempts and tried to figure out what caused me to fail. For me it was a few things. I was rushing the process. I wanted results and fast. I also gave myself hard…

My lunches tend to be a lot of little things. That way I can spread it out or eat it all at once. Today I had celery sticks and a light laughing cow, blueberries, turkey breast slices and green pepper slices. I guess you could call my lunches “deconstructed “. If I put it together in a sandwich or salad or even wrap then…

Thank you for sharing. It will be interesting to see what my mind does as I cont to improve my health. This process, for me anyway, is much more mental than physical. I can deal with a hunger pain but focusing on my weaknesses has been hard - but necessary.
-
You are off to a great start. Congratulations on your hard work so far. Building good habits helps with long term progress.

I am not taking progress pictures. The future me may regret that. But I don’t want to get bogged down by scale and pictures. I want to lower my BMI and improve lab results. Improved physical appearance will follow. But it is crazy the discrepancy between how I feel and how I look. I wander if I will ever have a healthy…
