I ran 8.5 miles yesterday, 9.5 the Sunday before, 10 the Sunday before, and 12.5 the Sunday before. This morning, I swam for 25 min and stretched in the therapy pool for 10.

And, they had everyone starting at the same time! The 10K route split from the 5K. The guy I was beside was supposed to run the 5K, but he made a wrong turn. He finished, though.

Don't freak out!! I ran my first 10Ks this year. I have my first 1/2 on Saturday. I only compete with me. Usually awards don't start until everyone is finished. The organizers may be thinking that everyone who would get some sort of award will be finished in 45 min. They may not think that others may want to attend the…

I was surprised by how few calories are in red wine. I don't drink anything but wine or water (occasionally unsweetened tea), so I don't feel bad about drinking it. Red wine has far fewer calories than most sodas.

AMEN!!! Very well stated. I swim and run and am not over weight. I will exercise, at time, two hours at a time, but I don't then run to DQ to get a Blizzard. We can't outrun our forks.

I swim on my off running days. It's no impact, and it allows me to stretch most of my muscles.

That worked. This is mine //www.fitbit.com/user/27CQVL

Do you burn more calories running in heels because you're engaging your core trying to keep your balance?
-
I tried to add you, but my computer doesn't seem to think I should :noway: How do I find my url?

That's a darn good question. I hope someone answers it.

I'm more or less at the "maintaining" level, but I'm high for a normal BMI. I am 5'5" and weigh roughly 140 lbs. On the other hand, I wear a size 4 pants. I'd like to stay somewhere in the middle, but I think we need to consider muscle mass into the equation too. I'd see how I look/feel at 200 and go from there. I might,…

I think the point of "friends" on here is to encourage and support each other. If I'm looking for your support, then my food diary should be open to you. Otherwise, what's the point to having "friends" who are supporting you?

Every now and then, we have to eat something that we just really want to otherwise, we'll go way overboard. You will not undo all that you you have lost by eating pizza. And, you don't have to eat the whole pizza.

I am a swimmer, and I know, looking for size, it's bra size (ie 34, 36...) and then sm, med, large. I agree with the previous poster about Spanx. That's not what I wear, but my suits are not for support per se. I go with TYR or Speedo because they are swimming style suits.

what an interesting article. Thank you for posting. I do really like the imagery of "Outrunning our forks." People really do eat because they exercised.

I have mixed feelings about it, but I think I'm more in favor of it than not. I frequently do not have access to my computer, but I would read other people's threads if I were waiting for something.

This is a wonderful post! Here are my top: 1) When I go to the hardware store every guy wants to help me find what I'm looking for whether he works there or not. 2) I own more running shoes than dress shoes. 3) I own more running clothes than dress clothes. 4) My 15-year-old daughter has decided it's "our" closet. 5) I…

Yes. Yes it does. We joined at about the same time. I really like the people here.

There is actually no genetic link to obesity.

Your body needs calories in order to function. So, your goal of net 1000 calories/day is really low. You need to burn more calories than you take in in order to lose weight, but keep in mind that that's not ALL exercise. For example, my daily goal is 1600 calories. That's 1600 calories if I do nothing all day long. Any…

Ooooooooooooooohhhhhhhhhh! Pick me! Pick me! Oh, oh, oh! Pick me!!! I am a HS Science teacher (Chemistry and Physics)--So my students usually give me  When I ask a question. I'm a runner and swimmer and occasional bike rider (mostly in the summer).

I do! I only have 2 Runkeeper friends, too

When I asked my doctor for advice, he told me not to run. That's not helpful. There may be an allergy component to it, and I find when I run in my home town (Kennebunk, ME), I don't have anywhere near the issues.

I'm only replying to bump this to the top so that maybe someone will see it.

I get up at 4:55 every other morning to go to the gym to swim. Talk about torture in the winter. I set one alarm, and I argue with myself every morning. I tell myself that I can go later in the day, or I try to bargain with myself. But, every morning, I remind myself that I will feel better if I go, and every morning I'm…

Remember that you're not eating for 2. That's a start. I know people who have continued running up to a month before delivery. I chose to swim throughout my pregnancies, and I gained about 25 pounds with each.

I have a little bit of the opposite problem in that I've naturally been a sprinter, and I have to work hard to pace myself for longer runs. But I agree with the person who said to add hills! It works your legs differently if you move as quickly as you can as you move up the hill, then slow down at the top. When all is…

I'm game! I currently do 10+/R/3/R/5/3/R and I'm training for a half marathon for the end of September. It is a cool goal to have! Wish I'd thought of that sooner
