Make sure you are doing the calculations right, unless your stats are really low already (like if you are really short and lean) it doesn't sound exactly right to be so low.
-
In theory it should work. Give it a try and let us know!
-
Thank you! I will look it up :)
-
Thank you for setting this up! :)
-
Oh that's wonderful, thanks!
-
The zig-zag schedule will have your exercise already into account so they are your net calories and you don't want to add any other exercise calories. Hope that helps!
-
Great idea, how do we start a group? And yes, you don't eat any other exercise calories as they are already calculated on your zig-zag schedule :)
-
I'm sorry I think I gave way too much information. In the zig-zag method you calculate your WEEKLY calorie intake, rather than a daily one like MFP is set up. The zig-zag schedule will give you a different daily amount of calories to eat and while some days are high at the end of the week you will still be at a calorie…
-
Have you heard of the Eat more weight less group here on MFP? It works for them, I tried it and it didn't work for me. I didn't gain either any weight but I didn't lose. I don't call it BS though, it obviously works for a lot of people that work out really hard.
-
You know, some people just need more fiber in their diet :) hehe.
-
If you are losing weight the way that mfp has it set up for you, just keep doing that. The calorie zig-zag works when everything else fails, so maybe switch only if you hit a plateau? :)
-
YES :)
-
Perfectly explained. I think a lot of people DO NOT realize that mfp sets you up at the minimum amount of calories necessary for basic body functions like hair/nail growth. Anything below 1200 on a daily basis will not sustain your body, so anyone doing 1200 needs to eat the exercise calories back.
-
EXACTLY :)
-
No, I don't add nor eat any other calories on top of what it is already calculated on the zig-zag schedule. Hope that helps!
-
I'm excited for you to try it out! I broke a 2 month plateau and that was WAY to long for me! Good luck!
-
Yes and No. Yes I eat back exercise calories because my exercise is already calculated on the zig-zag schedule, but no in the sense that you are thinking. I don't log any other exercise and eat back those calories. Hope that explains it better :)
-
I don't eat back any other exercise calories. When you get your weekly calorie zig zag schedule, your exercise is already included. Hope that helps!
-
Not a stupid question at all. When you calculate your zig zag calories you are already including your WEEKLY activity level so you just eat the number of calories that it tells you. You don't need to add nor eat any other exercise calories.
-
You explained so well! That's exactly what I did to reflect the changes on mfp :)
-
I have to run for a bit but I'll be happy to answer your questions when I get back. This has really been so wonderful to find and I just wanted to share with everyone. Like I said, I found a couple of posts about zig-zag calories here on mfp but they have been buried, so I'm not claiming that I invented this method at all…
-
OK, have a nice day.
-
Yes, the whole idea is that instead of calculating a DAILY calorie deficit, you are calculating a WEEKLY calorie deficit. So for example, yesterday I did my 45 minute crossfit and I only at 1298 cals which it would look as I am starving myself, yet today I did crossfit again but today is my high day so I get to eat 1936…
-
Yes, you could always try to see what your numbers are without any exercise if that makes it easier for you. I do crossfit M-F for 45 minutes so I know my numbers are consistent but if don't have an exercise routine then this may just not work for you. I don't log any other exercise on mfp, which makes it a little dull but…
-
I eat 1298 calories on Tuesday (my lowest day). I have MFP set up to 1298 every day so on Tuesdays I don't do anything, just record the food for that day. Today Wednesday (it's my highest day) I added a pre-set exercise (that I did myself) called "Wednesday zig-zag", when I made it I put 45 minutes (because I work out…

Thank you for the article. This is exactly what I'm already doing so now I just have to be patient and "build my foundation" :)
-
Thank you! I'm totally considering ditching the scale!
-
Thank you! Yes, muscle is more dense than fat (even if it's not.. I'll keep telling that to myself - you've got to find the motivation somewhere right?!) Hopefully the 6lbs loss was ALL fat :)
-
Oh there are stretch marks on the belly, you just can't see them from this angle. I blame my kids
-
Posted above. The correct answer is 6lbs lost :ohwell:
