  • All wanted to lose initially was twenty pounds. I had just hit 170 and thought there was no way I'd be back in the 140s. I'm tall so 140s is pretty average/dead center BMI-wise. Then when I got there, I decided to keep going. Lost another 20-24 pounds. People complained I was becoming too thin (mostly my family) and I am…
  • Well I said I'd report back my gain from my vacation. Arrived: Monday Departed: Friday (So not even five full days of eating.) Gained? 6 pounds. Ouch. Back on track to lose them. One down, more to go.
  • I always ate cereal when I was trying to lose weight. Didn't care what it was---Lucky Charms, Frosted Flakes, Honey Nut Cheerios, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, etc. I liked it so therefore I ate it. I always had it with whole milk too. Because that's the only kind of milk I will drink. Difference? I just ate less than I was used…
  • My IBS bounces between C & D but seems to be on the C-side more. Anyway, back in the day my doctor suggested I take a multivitamin and thought it would be good to up my iron. The iron in there was a killer---for me, it made me so constipated---well, bad things happened! I actually had read that it was the opposite---that…
  • I have never even heard of this ice cream everyone is praising---must find. I don't always have a thing for ice cream but there is some good stuff out there. What makes it ALL better is the presence of a good waffle cone. I would probably just eat waffle cones regularly alone if I had them around.
  • I wish people would be more accepting of this. I have some maintainers on my list that freak out about every little thing, even when they're constantly in the upper end of their range. Makes me sad to see them eat below maintenance calories regularly. Going away next week---all-inclusive vacation. Will report back my…
  • I don't really think the ones you listed are that high in calories. They could be bigger/smaller too. The ones I buy (from the junk store) are 190 calories for five pieces. They are pork and vegetable. $1 for a bag. My husband and I split the bag (two servings). The brand is Tasty Select. IMO, they are decently sized…
  • I still try to weight (except when I can't, like at a restaurant) mostly because I snack A LOT and eat lots of crap all day. If I didn't do this as much, I probably wouldn't need to. I also try to count things ahead of time that I could eat an entire bag of (like chips/pretzels) and walk away with them so I don't sit there…
  • I'm picky. I don't think I love anything that other people don't. I think I probably eat a lot more junk than other people here though. ;-) Though, I would say potstickers/dumplings would be something I don't see on many diaries but they are so low calorie and so good.
  • I transitioned to maintenance about six months ago and even though I seem to be eating WAY more, my weight has stayed within range. Plenty of days where I am eating 3-5K calories and as long as I am keeping an eye on my intake for the week, everything seems okay. (I still weigh food but I still eat out at least once a week…
  • IMO, you need to eat more. I'm only a little taller than you and maintain at 2,000 calories/day without exercise. And any "exercise" I do (ahem walking) I will log and eat back those calories. Are you at least eating those exercise calories back?
  • Just wanted to throw in my two cents... I bought a FitBit and then deactivated it. It had my calories set lower than MFP even had and I had upped mine from what MFP said because I found that I could. So I was always overeating, according to FitBit, which really started to drive me crazy. It's not necessarily more accurate.
  • I find "calorie counting" to work fine for me---but I take in at least 2K/day, still log (food and exercise), eat back my exercise calories and don't even hardcore exercise. Never did. Are you still logging? Honestly, for maintenance to work, you have to stay disciplined. I definitely ate at a deficit when I was losing but…
  • I hear the same thing all of the time. I think I've heard it from everyone. The last person I saw (that I hadn't seen in awhile) told me he hopes that I gain some weight back when I go on vacation. To be fair, I get it---because I have a medium-sized frame and I look kind of bony---I fall on the bottom end of the BMI chart…
  • I don't think you look too thin---I think the angle of your picture is making your arm look very thin. I think you look thin/normal.
  • I could never attempt to give up treats and junk. That being said, I have found it easier to: -Make it fit into my calories. (~2,000/day at maintenance + any exercise calories I win back.) -Not to stockpile snacks in my house. (I fail sometimes. But then I'll be better the next shopping trip.) -If I do buy snacks, try to…
  • Now if it makes OP feel better: -My starting weight: 170; BMI: 24.9 - I'm 5'9.25" -Husband's starting weight: 240-245; BMI: 36.2 - He's 5'9" on a good day. His BMI is high but is very wide (broad back/shoulders) and he has tree trunk legs of muscle. Both of us started 5:2 at the same time. I was more restrictive at the…
  • Absolutely. I always look at weekly calories. I've been doing it this way since December. No problems.

  • I think your plan is a good one. That being said, I have no idea. I wanted to lose the weight I had put on and maybe five extra pounds. So I went from 170--->150. Decided I wanted to keep going and head toward my HS weight so I went from 150--->140. Decided to keep going and went from 140--->130 and then I had everyone…
  • I do whatever I feel like for the day. I am usually night shift so I can eat 1000+ calories from 3 AM ---> 8 AM. Because that's when I'm starving. I'm not that hungry after I wake up so my calories for dinner (before I go into work) usually end up being less. Usually when I'm on a day schedule, I like saving calories for…
  • Pants were getting tighter. I stopped wearing some shirts because my love handles looked so big. Then I started trying to find very loose tank tops (it was summer) that would kind of hang because I wanted to hide my love handles. That was enough.
  • My husband and I love to eat. We actually are both guilty of trying to lure the other into awful food situations. I remember when I tried to get my husband to stop doing Atkin's, mostly because I hated his diet and thought a life without real bread forever was ridiculous. He put on some weight so that was my fault. ;-)…
  • Are you sure it's actual weight gain and not bloating? Because you keep saying bloating and a few pounds can easily be retention. You are 5'7". You're not going to gain weight on 1400 cals/day. I'm surprised you're not still losing.
  • I'm 5'9.25" and I try to maintain between 126-129, but I've bounced from 125-131 since entering maintenance for a number of reasons. I have a medium-sized frame so many people don't think it's a good look for me. I think it's more that my weight loss seemed to be more "severe" from the top half of my body (which looks like…
  • Is this just a sampling or is this pretty standard fare for your meal plan? How many calories were you attempting to maintain on before you took a step back? (Only asking because my guess is that you are pretty much eating the same amount even though you're not really counting.) Honestly, just knowing approximate calories…
  • There are also individual situations that might make one colder. Aside from being thin, I find that I am colder/can't shake the chills or the deep cold I feel in my body: (1) If I haven't eaten yet or in awhile and (2) If I'm really tired or lacking sleep.
  • You have a weight range, right? My weight often goes up a few pounds and back down but I don't allow myself to freak out because I give myself that range of 3-4 pounds.
  • When I was in HS, I used to walk to school (about a mile) in the dead of winter with soaking wet hair (shower) and my winter coat wide open. I was thin then but it didn't bother me. Now I'm always freezing. To be fair, my parents have been overweight for a long time and now they tell me they're very cold in the winter…
  • I have maintenance calories set at 2,000/day or 14,000/week. I base my calories off of being lightly active (I walk here or there and I move around a lot at work.) MFP sets my calories lower than 2K/day so I upped it myself. Any lick of exercise I do, I add to MFP and eat back. Like jenilla, my exercise is NOT consistent…
