  • I try to make sure I always do this. I disagree many times. Out of those I bite my tongue most times. And when I don't, I try to be respectful and civil.
  • I'm going to disagree just a tad here: By unit volume, muscle does weigh more than fat... because muscle is more dense. But the average person doesn't know or care to know about density and it's relation to mass. There's no need to get frustrated over this miscommunication. edit: looks like by the time I wrote this, it has…
  • Welcome tracey :flowerforyou: Other than making sure you get at least 7 hours of sleep, it sounds like you're fine. 6 meals is not a problem as long as they aren't all 1,500 calories. Grazing throughout the day is a good way to keep your metabolism moving and a good way to make sure you're never starving--because…
  • Jump in with both feet! There are lots of good things to read up on, then if you have questions you can still ask. :)
  • My wife bought a treadmill a year or two ago and runs on it lots. She wanted an elliptical, but I wouldn't use it, so she tried to get me moving and got the treadmill. She loves it, but wishes she would have gone higher end (~2-3,000 MSRP instead of 1300 MSRP). Of course, she'd rather have the elliptical, but she's…
  • Yes but it is good for you (depending on how it's prepared) so you can have more than 1 serving... just not like 6 servings 7days a week :-P

  • i agree, but if it helps a serving is one quick burst of a spray. if your finger stops moving, it's more than 1/3 of a second. :)
  • Great to have you here!

  • Ski machine (general) will be the closest!
  • A lot of people find that they can't lose weight because they don't eat enough... and the last thing someone who's insecure about their weight wants to try is to eat more. So yes, the fear is completely rational. Eat more than 1200 cals + at least half your exercise cals for 2 weeks and see how you feel & where the scale…
  • Two tips for you: 1) Canned veggies - with no salt added. Cheaper and stay fresh until you need them. 2) Prepare meals beforehand (the night before in the fridge, or the weekend before in the freezer).
  • Have you tried doing a usersearch with your zip code? you may find someone there too!
  • Good for you for putting it all out there. Way to start back up!
  • jealous! she's so awesome.
  • Depending on your height, weight and activity level it's probably fine in the 75-90g range. :)
  • No reason you can't add more veggies or whole grains to your total. edit: what's your protein total... it could be too low.
  • I tend to agree. Part of what you want to accomplish is to be able to eat less and feel full longer. Working on staying under 1400 will force you to make the best choices in order to be full and not feel like you can eat whatever you want as long as you burn it off (eating a Big Mac is a bad idea, even if you run the miles…
  • You can do modified push ups: On your knees sitting in front of a chair (or incline, bench, couch, etc), use the seat to push up from. After that you can graduate to on your knees, pushing off the floor. Then finally on your toes, pushing off the floor!
  • If you've ever seen real man boobs, you would know whether or not you had them. You probably just have flabby pecs and those just require exercise :). Something like this if you go to a gym: http://www.shapefit.com/chest-exercises-butterflys.html Here's a more complete list: http://www.womenfitness.net/pectoral.htm
  • Are you guys sure? Newton's 3rd law of motion says that if you're pushing off to walk, the surface is pushing back, so if the surface is already moving that wouldn't mean it's any easier or harder to walk on. The only difference would be the amount of friction on the surface and I would think both would have similar…
  • Calories in / Calories out is an oversimplification to the point of being dangerously wrong. (If it were that easy, there would be less people that struggle with weight. Those that want to gain weight would have no trouble and those that want to lose weight would have no trouble.) But people hold on to it as mathematical…
  • It does help. The first dozen or so people, I friended and since then many have friend requested me. Presumably they've seen my posts and thought they brought something to the table. That said, while I leave many encouraging comments, I don't get much feedback. I guess it's nice to just know someone appreciates you. :-)
  • Just to be clear, I wasn't calling you out. I have just been on forums that censor out the name of the competition. Sometimes its as simple as the money from affliate links
  • Having been to spark 2 or 3 times, I can say I have never gotten any use out of it. In fact, you're lucky to be able to ask that question on here: many forums don't allow you to mention the competition by name. MFP must be very secure (as I think it should be!).
  • O's too ;-) Also raisin bran and when I'm really bad Lucky Charms--after all, they're magically delicious!
  • Watched the first ~60 minutes so far. Good news is the only thing I didn't already know is about the politics in the 70s that dropped food prices (but I'm not a history/politics guy and wasn't alive in the 70s  ).
  • I always have really weird dreams. Last night I dreamed that my wife and a girl from my high school that I didn't really know then too much but follow on twitter and f/b were good friends and the 3 of us got into all kinds of shenanigans. Who knows what it will be tonight.
  • Outside of what others have said: you're body is catching up from previous large losses sodium water I don't think it's 2lbs of muscle, since you didn't even mention strength training. I'd up your cals a little bit and watch the water and sodium for the next 2 weeks and see where you're at then.
  • There is lots of evidence that suggests egg cholesterol does not influence serum cholesterol levels. That said, I use 1 whole egg with yolk and mix with 2-3 egg whites. I do this less for the cholesterol, however, and more for the calories.
  • Thanks for the ideas guys, and thanks meokk specifically for the tidbit above. I guess when people say they don't eat carbs, they really don't mean that and are just saying it because it's easier than explaining the whole story. lol
