  • Run your body on a 250 cal deficit (.5 lb/week) so you should be NETTING ~1400 cals a day. This should speed up your metabolism and let you finish off the last few pounds. My wife is only a few lbs from her goal so she has her goal at maintenance cals so that when she runs 5+ miles and doesn't eat all her cals, she slowly…
  • If you're exercising (running) you should be eating (at least!) 1200 NET calories. High protein doesn't have to mean low carb, but high protein is great for building muscle. Don't the runners or cyclists you know before a big race "carb load"? I don't think high protein would be right for you. ~25-35% is fine. edit: my…
  • congrats!
  • No my understanding was that P90X was best for those more in shape already and that Power90 was the precursor. Plus I don't have free weights at home. I did just start strength training about 3-4 weeks ago, though, and am so glad to finally be working on building muscle.
  • @AJCM: you look amazing, can't wait to see your muscles in 4 months!
  • Absolutely you can eat more cals. I don't see why a little algebra can't be your friend. Determine how many cals/hour you burn. Then eat the extra cals. Not from your BMR, but from your TDEE. :-)
  • Depends on how big a meal. I usually try not to eat a meal within an hour of working out in either direction. A snack, on the other hand, is okay. Listen to your body!
  • Having worked in a few restaurants, I can honestly say there is no shortage of whining from both sides of the counter.

  • Time and time again, the thing I've seen work most for people trying to get through a plateau is to eat more cals for a few days to a week. Seems the change up gets your body moving again.
  • Green tea? @seoid - if you've had 3 of anything except eggs before 9am you might have a problem. lol @trainguy - sugar alcohols get converted to sugar pretty quickly once they're in your system. I'd do some research on that, you might not be getting your money's worth.
  • Hi! This will explain it for you: Q. Doesn't strength training burn calories? Why don't you show any calories burned for strength training? A. Estimating the calories burned from strength training is very difficult because it depends on a variety of factors: how much weight you lifted per repetition, how vigorously you…
  • Thanks, it sounds better than DDR, which I bought but didn't really care for much. It's $30 on Amazon, so I might pick it up.
  • Can you ladies tell me anything about it? Does it require a mat or anything special? I saw it before it came out and am interested.
  • I love it here too! :-)
  • You have to jump in and make friends to hold yourself accountable. Write out your goals in a blog post! :-) Good luck :-)

  • If your goal is 1500 cals and you eat 1200 cals of french fries, you're not doing yourself any good. Going over every now and then is not bad for you, but don't starve yourself just because you want a supersize fry.
  • It's a lot harder to do this without motivation and support. Jump into the forums and make some friends!
  • If you enjoy the routine of walking x minutes a day, just walk slower once a week for recovery time.
  • i'm confused is the link supposed to be related to the post?
  • First you call it a diet. Then you say 800 calories. There's nothing safe or healthy about that. If you can't do it every day for the rest of your life, it's not right for your body.
  • where did you get it and for how much???
