I just bought a book called "Becoming Vegan" through amazon. I've been vegan for about 10 years, but I find it helpful to remind myself why I do it occasionally, because sometimes I find myself getting a bit lazy about it. This book has an excellent section on how to deal with the general population, the standard set of…

You can buy plastic bags that absorb the chemicals vegetables put out that cause them to go off. If you put your vegies in the fridge in one of those bags, they can last more than 4 times longer. I just discovered these this year, and they work like magic ;)

Yep. 1 cup = 250ml I tend to count plain water and green tea, but not coffee. I usually only drink water when I'm exercising, and coffee when I'm studying, which accounts for most of my waking time.

Yep. I've lost 22lb since I started tracking and it all came in short bursts despite consistent eating & exercise. My weight would sit still for 3 weeks, then I'd lose almost 2lb / day, 3 days in a row. Then I'd put one back on and lose it again till I settled down to the new weight for a few more weeks, then the same…

Over training is more of a mental thing than a physical. You can over train while doing very little, or while doing a lot. It depends more on your attitude. If you find what you're doing is working for you, then don't be afraid of it.

Sounds like you already know what to do but maybe you want to hear it from someone else. Walking is probably going to be the best thing for you, and I'd suggest using the park. Try starting with one lap around it. I don't know how big it is actually, so I should change that to, try starting with 10-15mins. Don't keep going…

I think that's exactly what happened to me. After I injured my knee and couldn't run I started using the eliptical for half of my cardio. Since I'm already fairly fit, I think it massively overestimated the burn. You probably got results earlier because you weren't as fit or lean before, so the same output took more…

cut holes out of your shirt just for your nipples ;) Seriously, this sometimes happens to me and it kills. A lot of people tape them, but I'm too hairy to consider this a good trade off. Some shirts have different friction than other ones. Try a different shirt, made from a different material. The new stuff from nike,…

I'm in week 1 now and it seems like its exactly what I needed, since my old routine had gotten a bit stale. The reason I hesitated was that I was worried about over-training since I'm not willing to cancel my gym classes (I go partly for the social component). Its fine though, I'm dropping the weights class and keeping on…

Thought I'd wait to bump this after people get home from work. I'm in Canberra, doing my phd. I started using mfp in January and maybe a little obsessed. I'm looking forward to returning to running shortly, but at the moment my knee (ITB to be precise) is still weak from a 100k race I did at the end of March. @Lilmissy2,…

I found reading and learning about health and nutrition the best way to increase my interest being healthy. Some of the locked threads on these forums are a good place to start. Wikipedia is pretty decent. The Australian Institute of Sport has some decent articles on nutrition (they apply generally, not just to athletes).…

Is it insensitive to say the easiest cure for caffeine withdrawal is coffee? :) You could try paracetamol, and drink lots of water. Otherwise, you're just going to have to put up with grumpiness and discomfort for a few days I think. I went through this when I was living in China. The only coffee you could buy there then…

Calories from alcohol are just calories, the same as any other. Alcohol doesn't generally have any nutritional value in terms of vitamins or minerals, ergo x% of your limited daily calories are nutritionally worthless. French fries are high in refined salt and saturated fat which are associated with health problems etc.…

Try lunges if you can't do squats. But you should realise that exercising your legs is going to strengthen your muscles in your legs, but it wont reduce fat there as opposed to anywhere else. The only way to reduce fat is persistent calorie deficits, and it will come off your whole body, not just inner thigh. There's no…

Could be that your sugar target is too low! But if you deliberately set it that low because you think calories in the form of carbs make it more difficult for you to lose weight than calories in the form of fat or protein, then don't eat them. I suspect you'd be short changing yourself some tasty sources of nutrients…

I heard good things about olvatine and milk, but this is complete hearsay - I haven't don't any research into it.

I try to be under my net calorie goal, but still eating >1800 / day gross. Apart from that, I try to be >100% for calcium and iron and I don't really pay much attention to macronutrients. As long as one of them isn't radically different to the others I'm happy.

I only had a quick look at 4-5 days and my impression was that you're eating is basically healthy. There was a couple of minuses, but it looks like they're really in moderation, so I don't think they'd cause you problems. Do you have cholesterol problems? If not, get rid of cholesterol in the fourth column and add in iron…

I have a reunion of sorts in November, but I'm more interested in my 30th in September. At this rate I'll be in the best physical shape of my life when I turn 30 and I want to make sure that's the case and I want it to not just be my best, but be excellent by anyone's standard. So I've got 5 months to see what I can do.…

You wont need to log everything you eat for the rest of your life. By the time you get to your goal weight, if you keep reading about health and nutrition and fitness along the way (and success breeds a lot of interest in this regard), then you'll be able to live healthily without being neurotic about it. But, you can't…

Oh, and in answer to your actual question, don't limit your food during the day (at least, not too much). You need the nutrients and you don't want to be hungry when your drunk for the reasons I mentioned in the previous post.

I'd try to get in an extra work out. The biggest thing is try not to end up eating heaps of greasy food as well. Maybe eat a proper dinner before you go, but if your friends all want to get kebabs or something, you'll have to think of something else. Late night drunken eating is a disaster. I had a whole packet of biscuits…

BTW... Hi everyone! I just order p90x and I feel like a kid on Christmas eve! I'm so excited to get started. I feel like my progress has stalled and p90x looks like it'll give me the variety and progression I need to keep improving. I've only got about 5lb to lose and I'm fairly fit (I did a 100km (60mile) race 3 weeks…

Liz, this might work for you: http://trapezerigging.com/PortablePullupBar/ Its not too cheap, but it does seem to be pretty good. I just googled "free standing pull up bar" and found quite a few. This was the first one I found that looked portable since you said you had a space problem. If you look around, you can probably…

Don't get worked up about it. Your initial comment was fine (my reaction was similar), but you made a mistake defending it. When people here criticise you in this sort of side way, just either take it as constructive criticism or ignore it. No need for further action.

I'm with C.Love. If I had to track coffee, frankly it'd be embarrassing. If you're going to drink it black though, don't go for instant. You need to get yourself a plunger. Don't start out with excessively strong coffee either.

I try to save some for food ;) (I do try to keep about 1,000 spare if I know I'm going out drinking, but if its going to be a really big night with lots of dancing the calories start coming back into balance ;)

My best trainer always says if it hurts you're doing it wrong. Pain is the body's way of telling you that the choices you're making aren't the best ones.

I became vegan about 10 years ago when I realised it had all the health benefits, was morally the only correct thing to do and I'd already broken the habit of eating meat because I was a povo student trying to spend all my money on beer. Taste was the only thing left (after ruling out health and habit) to make me eat meat,…

Honestly, I think 240 cals over 40 minutes (ie: 6 cals / minute) is not going to get you sweating unless you're really unfit. If you're working as hard as you say and your profile pictures are actually of you (which I assume they are) then the most likely explanation is that the numbers are wrong. Where do you get these…
