  • I'm considering this one or the Indianapolis Monumental in November, leaning towards Indy right now. Have you run CBus before?
  • I have a HIM the day before my birthday in September. Won my age group there last year, but that was at the sprint distance... It's either going to be a great birthday or an absolutely terrible one. There's a whole slew of other races between now and then, mostly smaller regional races. Considering making the trek to the…
  • LOL. My first thought, too. Wonder how much protein powder it would take to send a person into kidney failure...
  • Also: @Daisy471 that burger will be haunting my dreams. Sounds amazing. This is Cincinnati, so your post race options, even when you go to other nearby cities are skyline coneys or goetta. Delicious, but, c'mon now. @4leighbee oh noooo! I'm sorry you're busted up! But I'm so glad they figured out what was wrong!
  • @shanaber and @karllundy - I don't eat doughnuts often, but I drive past this place on my way to the gym everyday and their pastries will make you see stars. I planned for this for DAYS. As for everyone discussing wildlife critters- I once had a skunk rub up against my leg like a cat when I was out doing door to door…
  • Lord, didn't we just have the exact same discussion just a few weeks ago that turned into a massive fight before going down in flames of glory? History repeating itself, amirite? I don't pretend to know the fitness, medical or personal histories of the people I work out around each day, so I don't pretend to care if they…
  • I have been doing sumo squats for the last couple of months, just switched to regular squats, I guess I'll switch back! Bulgarian split squats are a great suggestion, probably way more effective than the cursed isolated machine. Thanks!
  • Some programs tell you to deload a bit if you're coming back from a week or more break. I had to drop 10 lbs off my squat and DL for my first session after I took a break from lifting while on vacation. Are you using a structured program or did you design your own? If you're new-ish to weight training, it may be helpful to…
  • I think you may have missed a joke here, Nancy
  • Swam this morning, recovery ride in the wind this evening. 18.7 miles 213.2 so far
  • I work out at 5 am during the work week and usually do an additional training session in the evening (swim and strength alternating am, run and bike alternating+ occasional yoga pm). I find that nutrient timing and eating most of my daily calories earlier in the day makes me feel much better. I have about 200 cals (mostly…
  • I use Strava for IPhone, which, in my experience has much more reliable GPS and elevation mapping than Map My Ride (I've done a few races where the RD put out a course map with Map my Ride/Run and the actual elevation was twice what MMR said. I don't trust them anymore ) I've found the calorie burns to be pretty spot…

  • This is not the worst thing that can happen. You could also seriously hurt yourself and that would suck. I ran my first half with a friend. I trained, she didn't. It was a struggle, but I ran negative splits the whole way. She walked 7 miles and was miserable for a week. I'd recommend the 5K, then running the HM when…
  • Dude, me too. I'm in the cycling challenge and this one so I look like a slacker to both groups. And I know for a fact no one out there cares about swim mileage. Maybe if I had an aero helmet on in my profile pic...
  • And for the more civilized amongst us: tulips blooming outside the Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden
  • From a recent trip to Arizona. Descending Mt. Lemmon near Tucson and trail running in the Superstition Wilderness.
  • Thanks for all the kudos, guys! I don't deserve them, but I'll take them nonetheless. If anyone is interested, Girls on the Run always needs volunteer coaches- male or female- and it's only about a four hour commitment a week for 12 weeks. Congrats to everyone who raced this weekend- y'all are awesome!! SonicDeathMonkey,…
  • 30.1 miles, 1308 feet yesterday. New PRs on a couple climbs I hadn't attempted recently! 194.5/350 Not going to hit my goal this month-forgot to factor in the week of vacation coming up that means virtually no riding!
  • Yes! They cover that win in the documentary about him. He was awesome. Lance actually accused him of being a drug addict and alcoholic, not so much doping as heroin and coke and what not. This was years after Greg retired, he knew Lance was doping and was doing a bad job hiding his disdain when interviewed about Lance.…
  • Desert Runners is pretty good, if you find running even remotely interesting. There's also a great documentary about Greg Lemond and Le Tour called Slaying the Badger. Poor man is still trying to recover from Lance Armstrong's slander campaign, so he is very open and honest in the interviews. Tangentially, there's another…
  • What's it supposed to do? It appears to just be overpriced protein powder with added vegetables. If you need more protein and vegetables, you could just eat them.
  • They're a great organization! And they're all over the U.S. Our one millionth girl will go through the program this year. Girlsontherun.org They're always looking for volunteer coaches or Solemates, who are basically charity runners. The Cincinnati chapter, where I am, will provide a full scholarship to any girl who needs…
  • This confuses me, too. But I have a lot of coworkers who run, despite hating it, because they think that's how you lose weight. To be fair, none of them have ever signed up for a marathon, though. @4leighbee sorry you're on the IR list! Hope you get back out there soon! The girls are 6th to 8th graders at a really rough…
  • Forgot to add my Interval ride from yesterday- did 16.6 miles in the rain. Legs felt a little (okay, a lot) fried from doing an almost race paced (that part was an accident) long run and my 80 mile ride over the weekend. Still managed to get in a brick run after the ride, though! 164.4/ 350 for the month.
  • Wow, a lot happens on this thread when I'm not paying attention to it! Yesterday I did a 1 mile brick after doing intervals in the pouring rain on my bike. It's been months since I did a brick run aaaaand now I remember why. They're terrible. Just. Terrible. I also ran with my Girls on the Run team today. Whoever ran more…
  • This is what I did on nightshift. I'd base my calories and what I ate off a midnight to midnight day, even if that meant I started a new day halfway through the shift. I also had a completely sedentary job- watching cardiac monitors at a hospital. I had to be able to clearly see all three screens at all times. I did a lot…
  • @_nikkiwolf_ Yay! You're going to do awesome! @Elise4270 and everybody else, I swear to you, body glide is worth it's weight in gold. I can't speak to it's usefulness in, ahem, less innocent situations, but it makes a difference when running! I had a really crappy day involving broken down vehicles, missed Overhead Press…
  • I want to be you when I grow up. On a related note -how do you like training peaks? I keep contemplating using it to track mileage and work outs, as I use an old school notebook and forget to update it at least twice a week...
  • True story, there was a pro team in town for a series of crits last summer who were sponsored by Herbalife. At the end of the race, each of them were handed a bottle of it to hold during press photos (they cleaned up since they were the only actual pro team in the pro-cat 1/2 races) and every one of them dumped the bottles…
  • @Elise4270 It's my rest day, too. I'm itching to go do something already. I have Racing Weight by Matt Fitzgerald and found it really helpful, except for his mind boggling pseudo-clean eating points system that is supposed to be easier than calorie counting. The rest of the book is great... I've heard the cookbook is…
