  • Steroids are a far safer choice than Crossfit. Discuss!
  • A "don't know" answer would be nice on some questions. Example: I seldom drink alcohol (maybe 1 beer this year). I don't know what effect it has on nutrients because it's not applicable to me and I never researched it. Good luck in your studies!
  • Almost all my weight was gained with sweets. Cake and ice cream. Seriously. 70 lbs worth. Why do we do that to ourselves? How do we do it without even thinking about it? It's a mystery. Luckily the damage can be undone. Surround yourself with healthier options to replace them. I never used to eat fruit, but have a fridge…
  • I never hit stage 2, 6 months into this now. I think the main reason why is because I was doing it for myself, already knew the effort, and knew that it gets easier. Although I've lost weight, my goal wasn't just the weight loss itself but the activities that become possible once the weights gone. These are what I want to…
  • This. The calorie burns from your workout types you're doing are so variable, it's throwing the calculations off.
  • Bad knee here so it's Elliptical for me. But why not gym? For the money you'd spend on an Elliptical you could have a gym membership for several years. If you buy a cheap one, it'll break or not be an effective calorie burner. http://scoobysworkshop.com/choosing-good-cardio-equipment/
  • Not unless you open it, which you haven't.

  • Found this a bit ago: http://www.weightwatchers.com/util/art/index_art.aspx?tabnum=1&art_id=35501 See footnotes on the bottom.
  • Worth every penny: Bodyglide Original Anti-Chafe Balm (avail via amazon.com or sports stores).
  • Find out what the folks at the company wear to work and wear the same style of clothing. Seriously, camp outside in the parking lot and watch. Makes them comfortable and shows them you can fit into the team.
  • Are you a fan of walnuts and almonds? In 5 minutes I could blow my entire diet eating them. Very easy calories and they're portable. And hello!
  • I didn't really need too. McDonalds and Walmart are like peas and carrots.
  • You could have replaced those sodas with shakes for double the calories. Otherwise, it looks about right. Shop Walmart much?
  • Just a suggestion: Skip the gazelle completely and walk 45 minutes at a good pace. Good article why: http://scoobysworkshop.com/choosing-good-cardio-equipment/
  • Become a mustard fan, you can get multiple varieties of mustard very cheap and with dramatically different flavorings. It grows on you. Same goes with hot sauces, Franks adds some heat while the Tabasco jalapeno flavor adds just a bit sour kick to anything. I avoid everything else, saving the cals for something better.
  • What you ate on the hunger days didn't work for you, find alternatives. You can eat 2000 cals of yogurt, feel starving and go on a binge. It just doesn't work, you have to eat substantial things. Meals should be meals, not a combination of favorite healthy snacks.
  • ...is it me you're looking for?
  • Maybe log everything, open your diary and get feedback from folks on how to replace the junk with better selections to start. Take control of what you're eating. I bet there's stuff you'd like that you don't consider. Get help figuring out what they are, then surround yourself with them.
  • Dude, you know you're ruining all the misinformation fun of the forums right? Corporations have spent millions confusing us. So please stop for their sake. Pretty soon folks will start wondering if they only need to "eat less than they burn" to lose weight. Nothing could be that simple. Thanks, good post!
  • Friend me if you want - started out at 250, now 209 with a goal of 180. Same sweet tooth problem. I log daily and visit several times a day.
  • Polar FT4 seems to be the most popular model on MFP and rather inexpensive. It's very comfortable.

  • It's called "Curse of the Ice Cream". I'm pretty sure every single pound of fat I gained over a decade came from ice cream. Given the opportunity I'd swim in a pool of rich creamy vanilla and shower with rocky road. Brush my teeth with some strawberry shortcake. I don't miss it a bit. Cause I didn't give it up. I just…

  • Get a physical, as part of the physical the doc can do a simple EKG and will refer you to a cardiologist if it shows anything abnormal. Yes, you get more comfortable with cardio workouts - just make sure you start very slowly and build to your target HR (I took weeks to get there, weight flew off the entire time). No, I…
  • I'm sure it has to do with the effort involved, but for me it seems a bit lower than others. I don't care. It's fun, it's a different group and allows me some additional cardio minutes without straining the knees.
  • I use a concept 2 at my gym and like it. It's solid. I wish it had seat resistance as the level increased, my legs could use a little more of a work out. But it's great for cardio.
  • Gotta say - that's an amazing transformation in your profile pics. Amazing. Reading your post really makes me realize how easy my goal is to reach, you really powered through some tough stuff. It couldn't have been easy. So - cut yourself some slack, and get to the finish. Then show us how you won.
  • Pick one with .2 accuracy - which is a majority of digital scales. My cheap digital matched my doctors expensive one, so I guess it's as accurate as it needs to be. Weigh yourself first thing in the morning when dehydrated. Don't freak out if it actually shows an increase, be patient. If documenting properly it will come…
  • Wow. Thank you for this post. Some of the best advice I've read.
  • Did the doc do a quick EKG? Most docs can do a fast version in the office and refer you elsewhere if something is spotted. I do agree with what folks are saying about Caffine withdrawl. I'd drop the soda first, then everything else when the dust settles. There's nothing wrong with starting slowly and carefully. It's a…
  • Happens to me all the time. Weight gets stuck, I stress out but don't change anything. Suddenly I drop all the lbs that I should have been seeing slowly drop overnight. Literally. Then it slowly drops until the cycle repeats. My largest overnight drop was 6 lbs. This has happened 3 times during a 40 lbs loss. I've changed…
