  • Rita … so very sorry to hear about Jim …so unnecessary and senseless
  • Barbie ... praying for Jake. I take medical life predictions with a grain of salt. Changes is medical treatments, stellar care from family, will to live ... these things can change a prediction. I was told my son would live 24 hours after his birth ... he lived 34 years ... Hugs. Thank you for moving us into November.…
  • Katiebug … Happy Birthday! Great photo!
  • Carol ... love the tree in your yard. You are probably still reaching peak in your area. Here in western NY we're past peak, but the leaves were outstanding this year in their vibrancy! Super bright yellows and reds. We still have pockets of color or a tree here and there that are just stunning. I love Fall. Allie ... lots…
  • Jeanne ... welcome. I find that I still have to meal plan even though both my husband and I are retired. After all of these years, it's still a challenge too. I follow a time restricted eating plan. Tried loosening that up this month to do different things with my husband and it didn't work out well for me. I need the…
  • Lanette ... I think I am doing well with the cochlear implant. Anything I stream through bluetooth, I hear exceptionally well. But there are still things I need to improve when not streaming (most of life is not streamed!). For example, while I can understand most men's voices, word discernment with women's voices can be a…
  • Following along. Busy, but nothing exciting to add here. Beth near Buffalo
  • Happy Birthday, Heather!
  • Barbie ... thank you for taking us into October! And glad to hear Jake is well ... September goal was to be lighter at the end of the month. I stayed the same which is not good at all with my current weight. I am reevaluating my path forward. I have been maintaining a fasting lifestyle for nearly 5 years now and, as I…
  • Lisa ... I've done a lot of research on the Medicare Advantage plans for my mom and haven't chosen one for her in the past ... using a Medigap supplement and Part D prescription plan instead. This year, though, I'm looking at an HMO I-SNP Plan ... a special needs plan for people in long term care or assisted living. Need…
  • I should clarify that I can visit my mom, but I also have to wear full PPE in her room ...N95, gown, gloves, glasses. I am not going in to visit today and will play it by ear tomorrow ... after I talk to the nursing supervisor on her floor. I want good advice before I visit. I did visit my mom every day that she had covid…
  • Lisa … I generally love Maytag … except for the agitator-less model. Like Vicki, I don’t think the clothes get clean. It just “wiggles” the clothes and it doesn’t use enough water. I found marks and undissolved detergent on the clothes. Add to that, the cycles take too long. Would never have another. The old 80s Maytag…
  • Lanette ...my mom takes two low dose medications that help with the symptoms of dementia but are not intended to slow it's course (like some Alzheimer medications). One is an atypical use of an anti-depressant to help with her appetite and the other is to prevent sundowners. She has never been officially diagnosed with…
  • Allie ... I always enjoy seeing photos of children in pumpkin patches! Carol ... I didn't think my guys would like the chicken because of the spices. I left out the thyme because they scream when I use it ... but other than that left the recipe alone. I was surprised they liked it! Lisa ... I like the gold lined pocket…
  • Allie ... wanted to add my congratulations on the birth of Delia. And, of course, my condolences on Selina's passing. Lisa ... beautiful purse! Lanette ... sorry you're under the weather. I understand that multiple types of crud are making the rounds right now. Busy week here. My husband decided to "prune" my flowering…
  • Tracey ... Happy Birthday!! Mo ... my son suffers from chronic migraines. Has since he was 13 years old. He's now 26 and getting a handle on them, but takes Qulipta daily and Nurtec on top of that when he has a flare. He tried everything ... botox, different triptans, food changes, cold masks, etc. So sorry you have to…
  • Lisa ... you have been through a lot with your health. So glad it is finally manageable! And that stained glass purse is beautiful! Rebecca ... not sure if it something that would work for you, but my cochlear implant audiologist has mentioned that there's physical therapy for vertigo and equilibrium problems. Exercises.…
  • Lanette ... wanted to add that my husband has several issues with his back that cause sciatica pain. When that pain is at its worst, he takes 600-800mg of Advil every 4-6 hours ... again, with his doctor's approval. He' trying to delay his 4th back surgery.
  • Lanette ... I take naproxen sodium (Aleve) every day to manage my osteoarthritis pain (specifically in my knees). When I have acute pain, I switch to ibuprofen (Advil). My stomach tolerates the Aleve; the Advil not so much. My physician regularly monitors the effects of these NSAIDS through bloodwork. Acetaminophen, by the…
  • Heather ... absolutely love the new flooring in the bath ... makes it look so much brighter! Carol and Barbie ... thank you. My mom picked out the dress (a long story). I had just turned 22. Today I showed my mom the wedding photos. She didn't recognize me at first in the photos. Guess I've been gray a long time now! :D
  • Wedding Dress ... still have mine hanging in the hallway closet ... yellowed. Our photographer took industrial photos for a living and failed as a wedding photographer. Minister took the photos. 1984. My dress ripped after the ceremony climbing a set of stairs and my husband's pants were too long ... but we've been…
  • Tracey ... Great photos and what a fantastic way to remember your dress with the scrapbook idea! Ok, so I'm sitting here just fed up with my inconsistent efforts to lose weight and I got sucked into the Noom ad on Facebook. Went through the whole question thing to see how much it cost. I am such a cheapskate ... refused to…
  • Barbie ... thanks for moving us into September! Glad Jake has a ride for the appointment. Lisa ... your day reminded me of the story "If You Give A Mouse A Cookie!" Carol ... you were a beautiful bride! As were Lisa and Heather! I love the photos of the wedding dresses. I still have my dress ... I'll have to see if I have…
  • Today when I visit my mom, I will have to share that her best friend of over 80 years ... someone I knew as "Aunt" .... passed away yesterday at the age of 94. My mom has been doing very well and I'm praying that this news does not cause her dementia to increase. Stressful events rock the boat. Beth near Buffalo
  • Carol ... I have Amazon Prime, but don't bother with the Walmart Program you have to pay for. Here in NY, if your order is over $35, you automatically get free shipping from Walmart. So I always make certain I have $35 worth of merchandise to order! I hope your knee starts feeling better soon.
  • DrKatieBug ... I won't say that my mom's place is perfect ...but it's the best I will find in my area for long-term care! I am feeling blessed that she is there. Margaret ... I have a recipe for Chia Jam. It calls for 2 Tablespoons of sugar which I usually leave out as berries have enough sweetness on their own. It may be…
  • Machka ... Happy Anniversary! My husband and I celebrated our 40th anniversary on Aug. 11th! Carol ... dark and tiny seems to be common in a lot of facilities. One of the reasons I wanted my mom in this current facility is because it features a "household" concept rooted in the philosophies of the "Eden Alternative" and…
  • Whew! ... I am finally caught up and, as usual, you have all been busy! I know I will forget someone, but here's what I remember ... Tracey ... Congratulations on the new job! And the refinished table looked great! Monique ... working with sick children ... you have my utmost respect. Heather ... sounds like you're getting…
  • Tracey ... Yay for the new job! So glad to hear that the offer exceeded your expectations!! Machka ... what a wonderful trip. I've always thought that I would enjoy a train excursion like that. There's one that runs through Canada that my husband and I have talked about. Barbara ... I missed the photo of Moose ... can you…
  • Flea … even though I read that your son was taking his drivers test … you scared the pants off me with the words “my son passed.” I most decidedly spend too much time in my mom’s nursing home. Congratulations to your son. Beth
