I'm doing the Nashville one also on April 28. I am up to about 11.5 miles, but have decided to take a break from running and let my body heal. Will be doing yoga, rollerblading and general gym work in the meantime.

Wow, i feel like I am slacking. Only 83 miles this month

Move as much as possible
-
I changed my shoes and within weeks the pain was gone.

Don't worry about speed, you are much faster than those sitting on the couch. When I was doing c25k I had to get into the mindset that I was going to complete the days program. Many times the tough part is in your mind. Speed will come with time.

Running outside is much different than running on a treadmill. You have wind resistance, a harder surface, nothing that will propel you forward. The only way you will get used to the 40 degree "cold" is to keep getting out there and getting used to it. As you run and your body warms up, you won't even think that it is cold…

Charge up the Ipod, set clothes out. (Never wear the same combo twice) Eat a bagel or English Muffin 2 hours before race. Run race and then complain that I could have done better. Switch out of sweaty clothes to earned tshirt then go to breakfast of 4 egg western omelete.

Welcome to Charlotte. It is slightly warmer here than Ohio. :-)

I take a few classes a week and to be honest I really don't notice other people around me. I am focused on what I am doing. With that said I was a bit heavier when I began, and I was able to go as far as my body was ready for. Take a class and enjoy the movement.

Take a class if you have a chance. Do not go the DVD route, not only because you may do poses wrong, but it is much easier to give up. Studios usually have a free or cheap class for first timers. There may also be a yoga group that gets together to practice. We actually have a nightclub here that gives 3 donation based…

I'll join in tonight

My first 1/2 is Nashville also. Like many others are using, I am doing the Hal Higdon's schedule
-
Kevin, Do the couch to 5k program to get you started. Also since you live in Waxhaw, go to Try Sports in Blakeny. They have a group training class for the Cooper Bridge Run. Paul

Nutmeg, raisins and cinnammon or Cinnamon and apple sauce

My first one is in Nashvile the end of April. I am using Hal Higdon's plan and mapping the distances out with mapmyrun.com ahead of time. Good Luck
-
I calm my mind and let it wander. Basically, meditation while I am moving
-
I recommend , since you live in Raleigh, go to Try Sports. They are a great local business. Get fitted and let them know your budget. if the prices are too high, then take the information from the fitting and go out in search of shoes at other stores. Search for closeouts and last year shoes. Search for coupons and…

Running my first half April 28. I am using Hal Higdon's plan

I run in the rain also. Unless it is cold rain, which is rare. I have worked hard at increasing my distance and speed, so if people stare at me I just hope that I inspire them so they will make themselves better. If they are thinking negative thoughts, it doesn't matter to me because I know I am in a better place than them…

I am doing my first, it's the Rock n Roll 1/2 in Nashville on April 28.

I'm shooting for 1000 miles. Will be doing my first 1/2 marathon in Nashville in April

I usually don't eat before going for a run. If I do eat, I limit it to a banana.
-
Personally, I like to have all the women in class to myself. So even if you feel great and there are great benefits, you should stay away. :-)

Sitting on the couch about 35 lbs heavier drinking some beer and about to be forced to take BP medication. Today...Nothing like a year ago

Try not to think so much. You have run 20 minutes straight. Great accomplishment, especially since most people cannot run 5 minutes straight much less 20. I did my first 5k about 5 weeks after I began the c25k program. I ran the 5k like a my usual c25k day. I walked about 30 seconds and made up my mind that I could finish…

Stay on the safe side and layer. Also have a sweatshirt to wear once you are finished.
-
I have one also. I'll add you when I get home.

It has helped me because I have created a habit. When I eat horribly, I feel it on the next running. So it also helps me focus on what I eat and dont eat.

Healthy? I don't know. But when I work out or run I find I do better when I am angry at something even though generally I am not an angry person.
