  • If you've lost 20# in 4 months that's great! It sounds like you're going exactly where you need to be headed. Are you counting calories?
  • I was in the "no alcohol" group for awhile a couple of years ago. That didn't work for me. What I've been doing for the past year is having 1 1/2 oz scotch when I feel like a drink. But just one. I like it, but not a ton. And I can sip it, and just have one. Then I might have wine, which I really like, on the weekend if…
  • I got over my anger when I was on the verge of having to buy yet another size larger clothing and said "enough". I refused to gain any more and started logging again. But this time I'm going more slowly, eating more and losing more slowly, so that I don't binge as often. When I do binge on a Sat night, I go back to lugging…
  • ^^^^^^^ This. But I don't work out on the weekends or bank calories. I do pre-log, get a to go box at a restaurant, watch my alcohol and pre-log it as well. If alcohol is my problem I drink something I don't like as much, like scotch instead of wine. Weekends can be tough, but if you treat it like every other day, and log…
  • I don't want to lie on my death bed and think "I should have.....". I live daily by that. "I shouldn't have" is okay, as we all make mistakes.
  • When I was training for a marathon I was running about 25 mikes a week. After each run is eat a huge cinnamon bun and cup of coffee. I lost zero pounds during that 3 month time, but was trying to either. It was interesting to me that I managed to perfectly eat back my exercise calories, with one cinnamon bun!!
  • Awesome! One day at a time. If you have a bad day, shrug it off and start over again the next day. Don't carry the guilt baggage around or it will derail you!

  • Just keep going. Even if it's tough and you "hate it" you'll get a ton out of it. Once you finish the program you can always go back and repeat the harder sections, right? And I totally agree that a lousy push up, or even doing one for every two that they do, is better than being too afraid of failure to even start the…
  • I'm 5'2" and and gain 2# over night, usually related to something I ate that was salty, whether chips or Thai food or Chinese food, etc. I hate to see it, but it does come back down in a few days.
  • Increase your calories by 50. Keep it at that for two weeks. Then, if still losing, increase another 50. This maintenance time is a critical time for you to learn and practice how to maintain at your new weight. Check out the Maintenance boards on here. Congratulations on your fantastic transformation!!!
  • You just need to train in new eating habits. And that's hard and takes time, and patience, and practice. It also involves knowing the old habits are hiding around the corner and will bite you every so often. That's common, but frustrating. Learning to handle the "I blew it" moments is what many of the posts on the support…
  • I also get cravings and eat a few plates of chips and guacamole (last night) and some candy tonight. Way beyond my calorie allotment. It's very frustrating! This happens every once in awhile. Usually when we have the food in our house. My advice is to move on right after the craving incident. Don't let it become a day or…
  • For me, yo yo-ing is 20-25 pounds lost and gained each year. That's what I'm working on. How to maintain in a 5# up and down range, not 25#.
  • Same here NoWine. Sometimes it's very hard to "just have one", or to stop when full. Very frustrating and I struggle with that weekly.
  • Have my first workout on my new water rower.
  • That's a ton of calories in alcohol! It doesn't leave much for nutrients. I'd try to cut down gradually to s beer or two a night. If you can't, then it seems like AA could be a big help.
  • In a year you'll lose 50# at this rate. Sounds like you're doing great!
  • I gained 17# over the top of my maintenance and have lost 11 of them. What got me going again was that I realized that I was either going to keep gaining- or go the other direction. How much did I want to have to lose? My plan is to lose 6 more pounds and slow my weight loss down. There is no "I'm done". For me, it will be…
  • Over the weekend I gained two pounds and over night lost a pound. I'm 5'2" and didn't eat an extra 7000 cal, or eat -2000 cal last night. Hang in there. Your body will start adjusting to your new workout regime and you'll lose the water weight.
  • 6 pounds in 3 months is 24 pounds in a year. That's great! In two years you'll be down 50#. The quick losers often regain their weight. I'm one of those people. On my third time around I'm working on building a long term way to eat without feeling deprived. I intentionally slow my weight loss down as once I "get there" I…
  • I'm not cooking for my family but I have had problems when I go over to my in-laws. There's just so much yummy food! I now make an effort to take a small portion and not be the first to go back for seconds, and to try dessert but not finish it. I also work on mindfully eating, or eating when hungry and stopping when…
  • My third time and I learn so much each time about what I do to myself in maintenance, and in weight loss, that leads to regaining the weight. For me, the key is that there isn't an end. The previous two times I reached my goal and gave myself a pat on the back and within two months let things slide. Now, mentally, I know…
  • It's hard. You need to stay determined, as your motivation will wax and wane. Commit to stay below your calorie count, or at maintenance. Most of us have trouble at home. I come on here and read motivating posts when I get the munchies. It takes practice but the more you get into the habit of not going over your calorie…
  • I'm a runner for 40 years. Two years ago, at 62, I developed painful plantar fasciitis, bunions, and my arches are shot. It seemed to happen overnight. I floundered around for awhile, desperate for something. I ended up getting a stationary bike. It gives me a good cardio workout. It doesn't replace running, but it's…
  • I have a stationary bike and a treadmill. My feet developed problems so I went to Sears and tried a bunch of stationary bikes. I picked the Nordic Track GX 2.7 on sale for about $250. The treadmill was great for jogging and I'm glad I had it because my husband started using it to walk. He started with a stroll and a book.…
  • Good video. Thanks for the link. I tried the concept2 and liked it, but needed to store it upright easily in my living room so went with the water rower. I figured push ups or weights would be required as I didn't see how rowing would strengthen the same as a pushing exercise. I'm really looking forward to getting my…
  • ^^^^^ This. Just do your own thing. Be different. It's your life and you get to run it. Let your family members run their own and if they put you down have the grace to ignore it. They're family, after all.
  • Ok. I think I'm doing that. Thanks!
  • I also use a Polar FT7 (4?) with a chest strap. I find it seems to be accurate on calories burned.
  • You lose weight in the kitchen, not necessarily the gym. You need to eat less than you burn. Then you'll lose weight. Hang in there.
