Everyone here had great advice - just wanted to add in regards to walking your neighborhood without feeling self conscious: 1. Do you have a car? Maybe you can drive to a nearby park or track where other people are walking so you blend in with the crowd more? 2. Trust me most people are concerned with themselves, what's…

So over the past few years I've slowly become a runner. At first I was wheezing like crazy, but just trying to run through it - except people kept stopping me, concerned I guess by the wheeze. These were strangers, lol, so I mentioned it to my doc, who prescribed me an inhaler. That really helped, and last summer I…

I pick the more conservative choice - for me it's MFP. But I think as long as you're consistent you can monitor your results and then tweak your plan from there... I guess the most accurate calories burned count, though, would come from a hrm.

Start here - it will take you far! Keep it simple and be kind to yourself :) http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/1080242/a-guide-to-get-you-started-on-your-path-to-sexypants

My system is to be flexible on everything except a calorie deficit - so if there's a week or two I don't feel like working out, or I feel like eating ice cream for lunch, I do a great workout 10 days in a row, or whatever else my mood dictates, there's no self recriminations - I just adjust my intake accordingly. So one…

Wow thank you both so much!!

You look so cute! Well done :)

Wow great message! Glad you got back to it

I agree - start slow. Take rest days. Don't feel bad if you can't complete day one - just repeat it the next time you go out and the next until you can - then you'll be fit enough for day two :) Be patient with yourself - it's not about pushing yourself to the limit - the more miles you put down the better of a runner…

Did a ten mile hike with my honey today in shorts - not a spot of chub rub!

I think the only way to be sure you don't gain is to find out your maintenance and log everything. However, I also think vacation is a nice time to play it by ear, testing the lessons you've learned so far by not logging, trying to balance making smart choices and enjoying yourself. You may get home and weigh in and…

When you live a day in the way you want your new lifestyle to be (stayed within calorie limits, hit macros, worked out, whatever else) make it a point to notice how good it makes you feel. For me it's less headaches, better digestion, happiness from being outside smelling flowers hearing birds absorbing vitamin d from the…

One milestone I've been looking forward to is weighing less than my boyfriend. I'm down almost 40lbs now from my SW and I'm in his range (he stays mostly within a ten lb range). So some days I technically am less than him (woohoo!) but I'm not really counting it til I'm out of it - 8 more pounds. I lose fairly slowly but…

The way I think of it is kind of like inertia. (An object at rest tends to stay at rest, an object in motion tends to stay in motion). So if I'm vegging out watching Netflix, the thought of exercise can make me go "ugghh" as well. But knowing that's only half the equation, I talk myself into overcoming the inertia, and…

What if you went by weekly calories during camping season? So like if your calorie goal is 1600 just make it 1500 Monday to Friday then you have an extra 500 for the weekend. Add that to a couple hikes and you should be able to fit in beers and s'mores easily! Enjoy your summer :)

I can't diagnose but only tell you what works for me with a side stitch - I can't eat or drink a lot right before I run, and I also learned to get your breathing in rhythm so you exhale when you put down the foot on the side of the stitch. I was having a persistent problem with that and those two changes really helped me.…

I think you just have to pick a way to do it and be consistent with it for a while. If you don't see the results you expect, it's time to tweak something. Personally I set my activity level to sedentary and that way I eat back all the calories my step counter gives me. I never add any additional exercise bc this seems like…

Totally agree! I completed c25k last year and the best thing I learned through that process was how much of a mental game running is. That's also why completing that program made me more confident in other areas of my life - I overcame bigger obstacles than my legs and lungs. Happy running - good luck with the half…

The twitching may be your body telling you the cleanse has messed up your fluid and electrolyte balance. Muscles contract and relax smoothly based on those levels being pretty exact. Our bodies are usually great at keeping those in the right levels but something like a cleanse, or a gastrointestinal bug, can cause us to…

Chicken breast and broccoli - toss in olive oil and a bunch of spices - put on tinfoil on a baking pan and broil for 10-12 minutes - turn the chicken halfway through. So yummy the broccoli comes out crispy mmmm such a treat :) if you need a carb throw a little Italian bread with garlic and olive oil for the last 3 or so…

I've been losing slow and steady, now 40 lbs down after about 10 months, over the halfway hump but more to go. Some people have commented here and there - but today I got a new one - the same one from two separate people - "are you losing weight? Your face looks really skinny!" (In a nice way). One of them even made the…

Hope is closer than you think - you don't need to lose all the weight to feel better. Treating your body well - feeding it right, moving it regularly - makes you feel better about yourself - love yourself by your actions and feeling worthy will naturally follow. That's how it worked for me, and it's a story I've seen on…

I use an albuterol inhaler right before I run - it works really well. Previously I was just trying to run thru it figuring as I got more in shape my lungs would follow suit - but I seemed to really be alarming to people I ran past, they would all be like "are you ok?" and "take it easy" or whatever - this is just strangers…

I just use my iPhone's step counter - New York Times did a study (http://mobile.nytimes.com/blogs/well/2015/02/11/better-fitness-through-your-phone/) that found it to be pretty accurate, so I just set my activity level here to sedentary, keep my phone on me at all times, and eat whatever calories it gives me. Granted it…

For me it's sustainable - and I love it. Like one person said, tho, I do add to it. Every morning on the way to work I have a shake - one half banana, one scoop instant espresso, pb2, protein powder, and frozen yogurt. Yummy! I've been doing this three days a week for eight months, great way to boost my protein intake and…

I lost 35 lbs over 8 months. It's CICO for me, or flexible eating if you prefer. The only macro I paid attention to is getting enough protein, as I quickly realized I was woefully low on that. Otherwise I eat less and move more and the balance of those two is always changing according to my mood - that flexibility is how…

Thank you so much for your beautiful post. I'm a baby runner - I started c25k July of last year - but I can already see that the experience gets better and deeper and richer all the time. One run can be very different from the other, some are real struggles, and getting through those is when you learn most about yourself,…

I did the c25k last summer/fall - it was great! Two things: if you're starting on a treadmill and transitioning to outdoors, make sure you put the treadmill at a slight incline or you could be frustrated by a setback once you get outside. There are hills, bumpy surfaces, curbs, and other obstacles outdoors, not to mention…

Qft! Everyone's confessing these complicated weighing systems but I never weigh anything. I'll measure every so often to make sure I'm not too far off track, otherwise I eyeball everything and err on the side of caution. And I don't feel bad about that at all ;)
