what a crazy story! how do you guys think he pulled it off so many times on so many different courses?
-
honestly it doesn't really matter to me for the most part. i've had a great experience at large races and much smaller ones. i've run a disney half marathon with 20,000 people and the course was not designed to handle that many people. there were so many bottle neck spots that it would have been pretty frustrating except…

for what it's worth the first 9 miles of the full and the half are the exact same course

with a 3:30 marathon time i'm guessing you will be in the A corral for sure. i had a 2:08 half marathon time and was put in corral B for the half, but because my friend didn't put a time in she got bumped back to the E corral so that's where we had to start. road ultras? comrades? LOL. all the ultras around here are on…

they have cut the numbers down at disney events in the last year to try to alleviate the congestion on the course. i ran the 1/2 marathon in 2013 and it was a mad house. if you're in the A or B corral you may be able to get out ahead of the mess, but if you're in one of the further back corrals you're going to be…

i use one i got from a local race, but i tried out the ultimate direction fastdraw at the store last month and it was very comfortable.

i was part of a team that ran a 100 mile relay on the weekend through the mountains in southern alberta. we were supposed to be a 7 person team each running one leg ranging from 16.5 km to 36 km long. two runners had to pull out and we could only find one runner to replace them so i had to run (hike/walk/crawl) an…

another vote for the Ultimate Direction SJ vest. i'm a bigger runner (6'2" 230 lbs) with pretty wide shoulders but the pack fits great. light weight. lots of storage and easy access to the bottle which don't bounce at all.

my 'great job' experiment from the weekend. i ran a 10k out and back race on the weekend. it was pretty laid back and low key. there was a 5km and 15km option as well. probably 200 runners total all on the same course with the turn arounds stretched out further along. i said 'good job' to about 90% of the people that…

Sinister 7 Ultra - Crowsnest Pass, AB http://www.sinister7.com/main.php this is a 100 mile ultra that's split into 7 stages. it can be run solo or as a team of up to 7 people. i volunteered last year so i could sign a team up early this year as the race usually sells out in a matter of hours.

i think this as well. ^^^

May 12 - did this start already? oops! May 13 - 6 miles, 0 stretching, 0 pushups May 14 - 6 miles, 0 stretching, 0 pushups Totals 12 miles 0 minutes 0 pushups

May 12 - did this start already? oops! Totals 0 miles 0 minutes 0 pushups

i'll go with 140 miles 140 miles running - doable 140 minutes stretching - does laying on my back between sets of pushups count? 1400 pushups - how about a combination of pushups and core exercises i'm in.....

for the most part if you want to "RACE" then the RnR and Disney races are not the best atmosphere for that. if you're looking for a running experience while on a vacation then i think they have some value. yes the prices are out to lunch but it seems like the price of alot of things is like that these days. i'm paying $200…

i have a pair of salomon sleeves. you can see them in my profile pic. i don't know if they help or not to be honest. maybe it's all in my head, but they definitely keep my shins from getting beat up when bushwhacking through the brush of some trails. (ya i know that's not at all what they're designed for) in the end i…

the data geek side of me could spend all day on his site.

honestly that story made me laugh. i love all the anger in the comments section. and then the girl who topped them all by saying that the pics were actually the same guy and same girl and they had changed clothes midway through the race (and shaved and dyed their hair)

there's a local race here that has the 6/12/24 hour options but if you sign up for the 24 hour race and drop out after 19 hours you also get a DNF. i think i am going to attempt the 12 hour option this year if my 50km race goes ok in may.

alot of mine end up in the charity bin because i have found out that a 'runner sized XL' doesn't actually mean a real life XL and alot of race shirts don't even fit over my shoulders. i keep most of my race medals though and the medal from my most recent race is hanging from my rear view of mirror of my car.

i have a garmin account, but mostly i use my old school excel spreadsheet...colour coded and everything.
-
this is me as well. i'll zone out and realize a mile went by and i didn't even really notice where the time went.
-
thanks for all the info in this thread everyone. very informative!
-
look into the Frank McNamara spring races. they're on wednesday nights on different trails around the river valley. low key. super cheap. cool courses.
-
awesome advice. thanks! the winds here are really bad somedays, but i am going to use this advice next time.
-
you're going to see alot of people 'not completing it' on race day then.
-
good idea! i volunteered at a 145km ultra last year and our aid station was 125km into the race so it was getting dark by the time the soloists were coming into our station. we had organized the bags into a system we thought would work, but it was still pretty chaotic and after running 125km some of the runners weren't all…

you need to update your profile OP. sounds like you're doing alot more than walking 100 yards now. very inspiring. have a great race!

"buy 10 handhelds" that cracked me up!
