  • Dude! Holy smoke. Seriously: great, great work.
  • Sounds like shinsplints, maybe. Search the forums; I think you'll discover you're not alone. Sorry about that!

  • For me, MFP is pretty high. I invested in an HRM a couple months ago and my calories burned for walking (my primary exercise) was about 3X higher on MFP than on the HRM. BUT -- I have loads more weight to lose than you do. As I've lost more pounds, the numbers are getting a bit closer. So, given the fact that you don't…
  • Cleaned out my closet just this week, and I've got two monster bags going to a worthy nonprofit tomorrow. No just in casin' for me, but I get it. When you're ready, maybe you donate them then (or something). Congrats on your progress!
  • Woot! Insanely great. Rock on.
  • Dude! Nice work; insanely great attitude. You're so in the zone. :) Thanks for the inspiration. Forward we go!
  • Meh. Poopyheads are everywhere. Can't stop 'em and, this being America (OK, well, *I'm* in America, anyway :) -- freedom of speech is a right and a privilege. If ranters need to rant and downers need to ... umm ... down, well ... I can't stop 'em. I can, however, ignore them., and do, with great pleasure. Life's too short…
  • Boy, I hear ya. Been there.. But here's the thing. Those days are over. Done. Finished. The you you are today is NOT gonna be the you you are next week, or next month, or six months from now or 10 years from now. Right? What's past is past. I truly encourage you to forgive yourself for everything that's come before. All…
  • Good for you! That "I *am" gonna do it" attitude is critical to success, in my opinion. After all, you're not going on a diet, right? You're going to change everything you think about food, starting now, for the rest of your life. It's a big, big deal when you think about it like that, but it's totally and completely…
  • Boy, can I relate. When I signed up, I was completely skeptical about whether or not MFP could help me do anything at all. I set my initial weight loss goal at the lowest number (1/2 lb a week) and committed to no exercise. ZERO. Five days in, I was down 3 pounds and totally hooked. Who knew that the simple act of tracking…
  • I was ready to do the lapband thing myself a while back. I need to "lose a person", and it seemed just overwhelming and impossible. It may be the right thing for you, but now I'm glad I held off. The thing for me has been to NOT focus on the big number and quick results. Slow but steady is working; I'm almost 6 months in…
  • You have access to a pool? It takes LOADS of stress off joints and is really relaxing. I had knee replacement surgery back in 2003, and when I finally got to the point where I could submerge my leg, stretching and walking slowly in the pool was a godsend. Hang in there ... knee injuries are no fun. You'll make it. :)
  • I hit a three-week dry spell a few months ago. What got things moving again was changing up my exercise commitment, which in turn lowered my daily cals significantly. I was a little worried I could do it, actually; it seemed like such a drastic change. Turned out (like most things) it wasn't as hard as I'd thought. The…

  • Do you use a heart rate monitor? If not, you might consider investing in one. Made a big difference for me (but then, I have lots more to lose than you). The thing I discovered pretty quickly is that I'd been eating exercise calories I hadn't really burned. When I got the real story for ME, that changed a lot. Hang in…
  • Good for you! Saw that you had surgery to help you along the way ... I applaud you for not just stopping there (seems like ithat might be easy to do). Instead, you've continued to work on eating better and exercising ... which I think is just a huge key to success. So go, you! You look great (and you can tell by the pix…
  • I had a three-week long dry spell about the same time in my journey, I think. Beyond frustrating. What helped break it for me was upping my commitment to lose more weight each week (the opposite of what melsinct did above), which in turn lowered my daily calorie goal. Lowered it A LOT, actually, so much so I wasn't sure I…

  • I, too, am working to lose a person (which is exactly how I've thought of this journey from the beginning). Thanks so much for sharing your story ... SO inspiring to see someone who's already done it. Give me time, and I'll get there too. :)
  • Alphabet soup. ;)
  • Good for you on the volunteer thing! Are you providing any of the snacks? Maybe you could take a long a big bag of apples and another of carrots or something ... at least you know you'd be having SOME snacks that are tasty and good for you. Also, if you like gum, take along a big pack or two of SF (so you have some to…
  • If you're willing to open up your food diary so others can see what you're eating, you'll probably get some actionable feedback pretty quickly. Also -- feel free to friend me if you like. We're the same age! :)
  • Woooot! Insanely great ... good for you.
  • Insanely great post. Thanks, man.
  • Or a glass or two of water. If you're still hungry in, say, half an hour, maybe an apple or some nuts might do the trick. Crunchy = good. :)
  • This was one of my first NSVs, too! Made me as happy as it makes you. :) And it's gotten better since ... it's a lovely, lovely thing to watch it get looser and looser and looser. Good for you!
  • Don't let bad food choices (or whatever's going on with you) win. You're stronger than that, right? Get your head in a different place, and things will get better. Not always easier. But better. You (and ONLY you) have the ability to see this journey through. So pick yourself up, dust yourself off, cry if you need to (we…
  • One thing that helps me is remembering that eating something I really, really want (but isn't really good for me), will make me happy for maybe 5 or 10 minutes. Eating something I like that's good for me will make me happy for the rest of my life. :) I think you're right: so much of this journey is literally in our heads,…
  • If there's a Panera close by, it's pretty good. Fast food-wise, I really like Kentucky Fried Chicken's *grilled* chicken with a side of green beans.
  • Boy, I hear that. Motivation really is "all in our heads", and it can definitely ebb and flow. I've been where you are a bit more than I'd like recently myself. So let's motivate each other by thinking about this sort of stuff. You've invested some bucks along the way, right? I'm about to, with a gym membership. Let's…

  • yeah, kndlindsey is spot on. not everybody gets it, and a lot of folks never will. that's fine ... just don't let it get you down. looks to me like you're doing great. really, really great. :)
  • I was intrigued by the idea of laser skin tightening, too, and found this news report on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5GXMhTxGLKg Looks interesting.
