Go to the success stories in the message boards. I find them INCREDIBLY inspiring. You'll find people who started in the same place as you and have faced all kinds of hardships and just stuck with it. You can do the same. It isn't magic. It's a decision that you just make every day. Sometimes you'll choose not to stick…

I'm sticking with my MFP calories (1350) as I've been steadily losing pounds with it and 1000 would make me cranky and feeble. :)

Hi folks, I'm just starting up Venus Index workouts this week - did some in the fall and saw the beginnings of results but fell off the wagon, workout-wise. But ready for action now. Even if it's just a few of us, it'd be great to keep this "check in" active to offer support. I'm running tonight, but will do my Venus day…

Hi folks, I had some time away from this challenge just with a super time/deadline crunch at work and, frankly, taking a bit of a break. Fortunately I've maintained the weight I'd lost and I'm ready to get back to it now, with additional fitness goals! I've missed this group! So, my April goals: 25 days (going for diamond)…

have to vouch for the fitbit too as worth it. way better and more motivating than other pedometers for its online dashboard and community, ease of use, and integration with MFP. best little gizmo ever.

Just as a flip side to the "people are jealous and jerks" interpretation: I think that while maybe there are some mean-spirited and threatened people out there, that most folks are trying to find something that both: a) acknowledges your weight loss as a big deal (everyone knows it's hard) and b) somehow also says that…

Get a fitbit. Or any pedometer, but the fitbit's the most fun and motivating and easy one I've had. Makes it easy to work up your activity level and see what you're actually doing outside of actual "official" exercise time... you devise all sorts of ways to get more steps while at work -- I go up and down the stairs an…

Eating more protein, especially at breakfast. Eggs or protein shake or greek yogurt -- I find I can totally do the recommended daily calories without being ravenous. That was the one small change. The big one, that I'm still working on, and that is hard for me, I'll still mention because it's made such a difference to my…

this might not be best if it's going to get cold, but cheap and quick and easy and yummy (I think) I leave a couple of tins of (condensed) tomato soup to have on hand at work, and then: In the morning that you're planning to have the soup, put 2 or 3 balls of chopped frozen spinach, half a cup of tinned black beans, a tsp…

I second sardines! delicious with hot peppers. also good for the world... low on the food chain, less contaminated, less damaging harvesting (unlike tuna!).

Great job - and has anyone else mentioned what a great haircut?

this is why it's not exactly offensive but kind of despair-inducing: the existence of this acronym demonstrates that our culture is still operating on a really simplistic version of women's sexuality. why assume that a mother is any less sexual than a non-mother, at any age? (I mean, okay, practically speaking, after the…

oh, the floppy chin/neck, I hear you! (although I sure don't see it in your profile pic!) I just want to post a couple of links that I find super-inspiring in terms of weight-training and HIIT (high-intensity interval training). The first one in particular is great for helping to reshape goals from appearance/weight loose…

HI everyone, I've been lurking for a while, and have a question: If I'm going to buy a barbell, what kind should I get? Olympic? General? How long? (I'm 5'5"). I'm a few weeks into lifting (using the Venus Factor workout right now but when I'm done might switch to StrongLifts or NROL4W... If there's a site that spells this…

I really couldn't do another squat for about 4 days... it hurt to walk... maybe I overdid it that first day :) but no, not a week, I know. But my question is: lift even when your muscles are sore, or wait 'til they're not? If we're supposed to be healing on rest day, shouldn't I wait 'til I'm healed before lifting again?…
-
I was so sore from day 1 that it took me all week before I did day 2! But not so bad this time, so I'll be doing day 3 tomorrow. It feels AWESOME.
-
Great site. I wanna be a badass too.
-
That is SO inspiring to me, a 44yr old just getting started with lifting! You look awesome and strong!

hey, welcome idembia. congratulations on the move to the healthy weight your doctor suggested. You're in the right place here!

Bodyrock.tv Another free site with workout videos. Not as professional looking and organized as the Tone It Up ladies, but will get the job done. http://www.bodyrock.tv Thanks for this link! Looks awesome and I'm going to get prepped to do the Oct challenge...

@shanthicholan I'm starting up weight training too. How's it going for you now, after a few months? From my reading, I gather that making sure you get 80+ grams of protein per day (some say 1 gram/lb of lean body weight) is the crucial thing, food-wise.

Hi - I just joined this group. Seems to me that some groups take off and connections develop, but some just sit here, unused. It takes folks that are on every day, and, it seems to me, to not have too many topics/threads in the group, otherwise people's daily presence gets diluted. Let's see if we can wake this one…

Hello everyone! I'm a 44 yr old single mum of a 9-year-old daughter. Just sick of accepting feeling frumpy and avoiding dates and life in general outside my parenting and work. Ready for change inside and out! Of course, like lots of us, I've struggled with weight loss in the past, but the only thing, honestly, that ever…
-
I've done this in the past as well. Actually, for me I've identified that it's self-sabotage, clear and simple... more specifically the fears coming up to the surface that i've been burying with overweight for so long -- i.e. if/when I actually succeed at weight loss, I might be attractive to men, and also supposedly have…

okay... brace yourself all you folks who don't like it, because this probably won't help. Yes, I love it with peaches or apple chunks (great snack for work-- I just leave a cottage cheese container in the fridge and cut up an apple with half a cup. Yum) BUT my favourite cottage cheese "recipe" is: ryvita crackers sardines…

To me, one of the main points of logging food meticulously is to become really aware of portion sizes and to learn how to eat that will feel good (for me, I'm learning to eat a lot more protein than I have in the past, which makes me feel way more satisfied than a higher carb diet of the same calories.) And after only a…

Tina Fey's memoir Bossypants -- hilarious, easy read, yet with interesting content, even for this non SNL-watcher. Feminist and funny. Where'd you go, Bernadette? - very engaging novel, with, in my opinion, some flaws, but also funny in a biting social commentary way. And I'm always thumbing through one of Alice Munro's…
