Yep, same thing happens to me. I think it just takes a little warming up those first few minutes before I start to get into my groove.

Pizza (not homemade), though I do budget calories for this every once in a while. Also, cheeseburgers from restaurants. That's a big one... There's no way I can justify those calories. :frown: My mouth is watering just thinking about it.

I think it depends on how much weight you have to lose. Generally, the less you have to lose, the lower your goal should be. I have my goal set to 1 lb/week, and I started with 35 lb to lose. If I tried to lose 2 lb/week, which is a 1000 calorie deficit per day, I would have to eat under 1000 calories per day, which a) I…

Great job! Thanks for documenting the journey.

I have the same question. I always thought that using those arms was better because it added an upper body workout, but is this incorrect?

As someone else stated, Spanx (or the equivalent) are useful for dresses/shirts that are clingy around the midsection to smooth everything out. However, there's one issue that I'd like to point out so someone doesn't wind up disappointed later. I have a fairly small waist compared to my stomach/hips, and that's something…

I think it totally depends on the machine. I wear my HRM at the gym, and it consistently tells me I've burned 20-50 MORE calories than the machine says. I'll look at the watch/receiver sometimes and my heart rate on there will be slightly higher than what the machine is reading (my HRM syncs up with the machine), so I…

If you're watching your calories, you technically don't need any exercise to lose weight... You just need a calorie deficit. That being said, the 30 Day Shred should be plenty if you continue to stick to your food plan. You should notice a difference in the way your muscles feel and your strength after just a few days.…

I LOVED Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo when I took it. It didn't affect my mood, and I didn't notice any weight gain. I had to switch to another pill because of cost, and sometimes I feel like I'm a crazy person with the mood swings... I know everyone is different, but I totally agree with you on this one!!

If you're actively following a diet and exercise plan the pill shouldn't have an effect on your weight. Depo, on the other hand, is notorious for weight gain. Like someone else said, ask your doctor if you can take a low-dose pill, and you should be fine as long as you stick to the plan on here.

That is AWESOME! You did a great job teaching him.

Weight loss is 80% diet and 20% exercise. I've seen that on the boards here, and had it confirmed today by a dietitian. If your only goal is weight loss, technically you don't NEED to exercise. Exercise will make you stronger and healthier, but weight loss is really just about calories in and calories out. You kind of…

That's disappointing. I saw those in the store, and they looked so good!

Here's my weigh-in: SW: 143.5 Week 1: 142.0 GW: 135.5 Good job to everyone this week for just coming back here and checking in, regardless of the number on the scale. Keep up the good work. :)

That's a great NSV!! My favorite success stories on here are when people post about going to the doctor after 6 months (or however long) on MFP, and have normalized their blood pressure, cholesterol, etc. and are able to come off their meds. That seems to be a really rewarding outcome of this whole process. :)

Hello everyone, both people I know from the previous challenges and people I don't know. I really want to participate in this challenge, and I feel bad that I haven't been able to post until today. I moved a few weeks ago and still don't have internet service at home, which is driving me crazy. :explode: I've still been…

You look great! Keep up the good work. :)

Chocolate is absolutely ok. We're all doing this so that we can live happy, healthy lives. You're not going to be very happy if you're always depriving yourself of the foods you want/enjoy. Someone else here told me to think about it this way: if you want to have a cookie, have a cookie. But you don't need to eat the whole…

I think this is spot on. BMI is not worthless, but neither is it the perfect tool to determine your ideal body weight.

I didn't like coffee, but started drinking it for the caffeine, and I think iced coffee is easier to drink than hot coffee. I put skim milk in both, but need less sweetener when I drink iced coffee.

If you're just looking for a "snack" bar, and not necessarily a huge protein load, check out Larabar. They have a ton of awesome flavors, and there are only 3 or 4 natural ingredients in each bar.

I just looked at the websites of Domino's, Pizza Hut, and Papa John's to find some nutrition information. What everyone else has been saying is basically true - thin crust, veggie toppings are the best. I found this interesting, though. You might think that a plain cheese pizza has fewer calories than one with toppings,…

If you're looking at the big chains, you can probably go to their websites and find the nutrition info. Some restaurants even have options to "build your own" and then will give you that nutrition info.

I had TJ's frozen shrimp stir-fry tonight, and it was delicious and very low-cal. I also love all of their frozen Indian meals. I recently bought a package of fresh pomegranate seeds to put on a salad - delicious! I've yet to be really disappointed by anything I've gotten there...

Non-scale victory. Anything you're proud of or happy about that doesn't have to do with the number on the scale.

I've done this using egg whites. Made a whole bunch, then refrigerated them to use for the week. In the morning I'd toast a whole wheat English muffin, throw the egg muffin in the microwave, cut up some avocado and tomato, and then put it all together. Actually, I ate two of the egg muffins and did open face sandwiches…

I've also found that most big chains (and even some smaller ones) have nutrition info on their websites. They might not have the calories or a "fit section" on the menu, but if you know you're going there, you can plan ahead.
