Totally. It's from the Journal of Fabulous Nutrition. 'The psychological birthday buffer is an extraordinary and as yet unexplained phenomena: studies suggest that the feeling of happiness and wellbeing generated by presents and being surrounded by friends and family does not merely create a figurative feeling of 'warmth',…

Well done! That's absolutely brilliant - and so rewarding to get there within that 28 days! Symbolically less than a month :D

Most dried pasta is egg-free (I remember from cooking for my Vegan friends ...) I borrowed this book from my local library a few years ago - http://www.amazon.com/Mediterranean-Women-Stay-Slim-Too/dp/0060854227 Remember it being good. Lots of wisdom, and really yummy recipes! The women who wrote it is a chef, so it's full…

Yay! Well done! I love both pasta and wine - I like to share a bottle of wine with my boyfriend of an evening. I also started worrying this week that I might be causing him to waste away (we cook every night and eat the same) so now he gets EXTRA pasta. And no complaints there!

Hello all! I'm Becky - I'm 28 years old, I'm an academic researcher based in the UK and I'm also a turtle! I want to lose 14 pounds - a pound a week sounds nice and doable and. will get me firmly into the middle-to-high OK range of my BMI. I'm 11 stone 4 today (sorry my maths won't stretch to workng that out in pounds) and…

Me too please! I had already decided I want to drop a stone by then (one pound a week with two weeks' leeway) - I'm more likely to if I have specific motivation! Excellent.

Good link! I said 'real ale' so UK readers would understand, and 'craft beer' so US readers would understand. It's the closest cross-cultural translation! Wow, I'm glad there are so many of you - I wondered if the dieting had meant a suppression of ale appetites! I'm in Sheffield, near so many local breweries - Wentworth,…

My diary's open to friends - feel free to add me! I do like snooping in other people's diaries ... and sometimes thinking 'mmmm, that looks yummy' :)

28lbs is an amazing loss! Absolutely brilliant! I know the feeling though - just feeling fed up of the journey and thinking 'how long is this going to take'? Good luck - and add me if you like! I'll motivate you if you motivate me :)

I always put on several pounds at the beginning/middle of my period - it's water retention and goes away again at the end of the period. Drinking lots of water helps that too (sounds nonsensical but there ya go). Also - men on average do seem to lose quicker. They have more muscle mass I guess. Don't compare, but just grit…

It's good isn't it, when you get to that place! I've just started too on here, because I just went, ahh, do you know what - I need to sort this out NOW! Well done on your 5lb loss! Add me if you want :)

It you only 'broke' your diet by 300 extra calories, then I shouldn't think it'll set you back very much. I've only just started, and am trying to stick to 1,200 calories. Day three was a disaster (friend's wedding) and I ate - and drank - mostly drank - 3,000 calories! However, I'm not going to worry about it, just clock…

Hello! Just starting too ... and trying to lose about the same amount. It seems like a relatively small amount (compared with what some people on here have managed to lose!) but at the same time it's a huge challenge. Add me if you want :)

Hi! I've only just started on here, but I've been quite motivated so far by the colour change on the homepage summary. It went red yesterday (having eaten too many calories) and I'm determined it will not go red today! I'm off to a wedding tomorrow though and know there's going to be all sorts of food and booze, so am…
