  • I probably do most of my routine against the grain & it hasn't done me harm as yet - no stalls, all going to plan. I am seriously not a morning person :/ I workout around 8-9pm followed by dinner, shower, bit of relax (MPF updates inc) and bed. Workouts can be 30-60min light to extreme. It sure doesn't do my sleep any harm…
  • Hiya Young males - LOL yehh As a teen I'd have 4 sandwiches for a snack. In Rookies in the Air Force at a rough guess I was packing 5 or 6000 cal a day (maybe more) - but burning it all too :/ Anyway just on one specific thing you asked: "Finally, I would love to hear from people who are exercising on their own, without…
  • Hiya EvertonGirl :) I checked this out when I was deciding on mine: http://exercise.about.com/od/cardiomachinesresources/tp/HRM.htm It's a little dated now but it does show the focus of the Garmins on training rather than just fitness. I can't personally vouch though as I was only interested in cal burn accuracy so went…
  • I'm not an expert by any means but have done a lot of learning from MFP. I also have to say I agree with westcoastSW plus the tip for water. Water is a necessary part for the process. Also re "Doesn't that seem like a HUGE difference?! What do you think would be best?" It does seem against the grain but I've seen a lot of…
  • I weigh in evening - I know that's not the norm though. But I weigh-in only once a week and under the same conditions everytime. I'm not really interested in the actual figure so much anyway - it's the downward (or not) trend that I pay attention to. Re scales - I don't think digital or dial really matters so much as…
  • Well it might help you goals - you won't feel like eating for awhile *kidding*
  • @Artemis_Blooms - to the point - Polar FT4 or FT7 if you can. I & many of my friends have the FT7 and love it. @lesliekae - "leaving between 100 and 200 calories just in case" me too and I'm meeting goals to date - but always have an open mind - if I stall for awhile then I'll get more serious with stuff maybe like…
  • With my bit of research before buying I came to the following conclusions (among others) Timex can have some accuracy issues but would still be more accurate than calculators & MFP Polar are generally accepted very accurate Inactive Burn for me is not worth worrying about - it account for "maybe" 70/80 cal an hour - if I…
  • Saved & filed for later reference - thankyou
  • Are you measuring as well - not just relying on scales. And there may (or may not) be something useful in amongst this: - http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/217761--unexplainable-fat-loss-plateaus-explained-tom-ve Good luck
  • @ndking21 - unless you update your goals (in which case it will recalculate when you update) it will only auto adjust when you weigh-in and go down by total of 10lb since last adjustment. Anyone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong on that - but that's the way I think it works.
  • I eat heaps of fruit and am always over on sugar - admittedly even some of it is probably refined - but all else is always good and it hasn't done me any harm yet. If I stall for an extended period (3 weeks+ say) then I'll reassess but for now I don't pay it any attention.
  • Rebuttal - hyuk hyuk The original it seems was not necessarily incorrect. Check these out: http://grammar.quickanddirtytips.com/ending-prepositions.aspx http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_and_British_English_differences  Although the "Sporanos" which I take it was meant to be "Sopranos" slant added spice
  • @de1amo - yup Once a week under the same conditions - time of day, clothes, and so on. Try not to get fixated on daily weighs. If you have a trend in the right direction over weeks then all good.
  • I did a bit of research before buying and narrowed it to Timex and Polar. Seemed that a very popular Timex on Amazon has some durability issues and overall calorie burn accuracy problems. Polars said to be top in the accuracy stakes and comfortable. Polar FT4 and FT7 seem to be very popular with MFPers that I have seen. I…
  • Hiya I went on a research bender a little while ago on this topic and pretty much satisfied myself that it is more or less a myth as far as weight loss goes. It "may" be useful if you are "training" to go for the fitness zone but for weight loss the more burn the better and you burn more when you work harder. Obviously…
  • @toots99 - LOL. Obviously I did not pick that up. *dips hat* So it all depends on whether you like the horse ROFL. I will have to post that retort back to FB for the originating friend. :)
  • Help uncle Jack, off the horse. Help uncle, jack off ... never mind :/
  • I have the odd bad day and weekends I find hard - though it gets easier. I also don't give up all my vices just have less of them and less often. You may need to get over an odd bad day and move on. Don't let the whole train derail because one wheel fell off.
  • @Azuleelan - in line with my thoughts. I am "always" over on sugar. Is it doing you and harm - as in are you still losing or meeting whatever goals you have on a fairly consistent basis. Me, as said I'm always over, but it doesn't appear to be doing me any harm at all. "If" or when I stall for an extended period (say 3+…
  • @annacataldo - not sure I entirely go with that 1200 v 1800. I am a avg to small built male & I go for the 1200 too. @FAMILY02184 - My take on it. Generally yes; but I'm not sure it's entirely black or white. There are too many variables involved. There is a lot of debate and a lot of different opinions. Generally though I…
  • Check this out http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/10665-newbies-please-read-me-2nd-edition particularly the 4th link in the first post. Don't bother with the whole thread - only the first post & the links in it. This might be of interest too depending if your interested in just getting lean or in building too:…
  • Lower intensity - maybe longer workout OR not at all. I learned the hard way not to push it when not well especially if it is cold/flu related. I once continued to push while not well and ended up with mild Pleurisy & that hurts! and wiped me out for around 2-3 weeks. Not worth it - save the energy for the bod to repair…
  • @amysambora - very good point on the diet vs lifestyle. I think a lot of us forget that (me included). I believe I have that ideal but forget that I actually do. What I mean is I still have 1 or 2 vices but I now even them out by working out regularly and moderate better with a "majority" - not all - healthy nutritious…
  • "I don't allow the bad stuff in my house." Agreed - if you are in a family home try to get the others onboard. If they really want crap in the house - then they get "their" own stuff and stow it in their room - not in the kitchen. I don't seem to have a problem if I stick to "out of sight - out of mind" Oh yeah - working…
  • @amberlovesjames - pretty much same here. I am "not" a morning person - can hardly face life in the morning let alone working out LOL I don't have a meal before workout but almost always have some sort of snack - often a serve of nuts. Seems to be working for me so far.
  • Good for you - and for us - I'd count that as a win for all males on MFP :) Would love to have been there LOL
  • @eatingmysandsho - yup - hope it helps to say that you will see results. I'm the same for time as eatingmysandsho. I use Kinect Biggest Loser Ultimate Workout (& other games) and I started out in late January at 30min session on moderate nearly killing me. I can now do 50 min sessions on challenging - though believe me it…
  • I also eat late, snack late - I have to, since I workout 8/9 ish at night. I have a light but nutritious dinner and often a nutritious (sometime not) late snack. If I didn't have some fuel after the working out no doubt I'd feel the hunger pangs late night or during the night very early morning. If you're worried about the…
  • Facebook friends think you've gone on holiday because you rarely post anymore - you have to explain you spend more time updating, catching up and posting on MFP.
