  • Does it really matter what anyone calls it? I skipped breakfast for most of my life and I still gained weight. However a few months ago I found a tool(IF or TRE, whatever anyone wants to call it) that helped me get under control an almost 3 decade old problem that I had...medicating myself with food. Many years ago in a…
  • I am planning a solo female trip to some place. Not sure yet where but somewhere is the US. After I have maintained for a year I want to do a solo trip overseas...yet to be determined where.
  • For me it is more than just skipping breakfast. It is an aid in helping me control my eating habits. I have always had the problem of once I ate breakfast I was hungry for the rest of the day and always looking for my next bite of food. IF, TRE, skipping breakfast(whatever anyone wants to call it) has been a way for me to…
  • How is it that you find losing weight after 50 difficult? Don't get me wrong I am well past 50...60...65. I have seen similar posts such as this one stating that it is more difficult but I am never sure why someone thinks that it is. Medical conditions might contribute...maybe we can't exercise as much or as hard as…
  • Okay...now that you have figured out that they are not unhealthy it is time to figure out some ways that will help you not to overeat them. Maybe you could try baking only the amount that fits in to your calorie allotment. Also I have found that on foods that I want to overeat on if I go ahead and put them in a storage…
  • What do you think would make them unhealthy?
  • I use a food tracking journal. I write down what I eat and an estimate of how many calories each item is. I find it better for me than using the MFP logging system. Don't misunderstand...it is still work if you are serious about losing the weight. Much of what I eat is repeat things. Take for instance my bacon/egg/cheese…
  • I eat very little of that type of stuff but it has nothing to do with that "I think it is bad". Most of it I don't particularly care for and also that I am home a lot and can cook most things. The other thing...if I have convenience food at home I will tend to eat it until it is all gone! I am not good at moderating…
  • My best guess is because they want to! Is it any different than someone wanting to grind their own coffee...make their own butter...etc, etc? You could after all just buy "quality". If she and her husband enjoy it...why not? Why give up what you enjoy doing simply because someone else might not understand why?
  • I understand. I weighed my food and managed a 75 lb weight loss. Woke up one morning only 15 lbs from goal and just couldn't do it anymore. My anxiety was out the roof. I ended up gaining about 60 lbs back. This time around I knew that I had to do something different. I set out to learn about portion control. I also gave a…
  • You're right Lemurcat...I was probably out of line by voicing my opinion. In no way was I trying to suggest that you are being uncharitable. I certainly didn't mean for you to feel as if I was calling you an idiot nor did I mean in any way to imply that you were faking. I just see things differently than some do. That is…
  • I don't necessarily get bored with food. I do however get tired of deciding what I want to eat. I have times when nothing appeals to me.
  • I have used some recipes from this site but haven't made her cauliflower alfredo sauce. https://www.cookingclassy.com/roasted-cauliflower-fettucine-alfredo/ I have made this one though. I liked it. https://www.cookingclassy.com/light-fettuccine-alfredo/
  • I try not to assume too much about people. I do admit to thinking of the most obvious. Isn't most of life ambiguous? An example: I might say my house is clean. Some could walk in and think it is spotless...someone else might think it is messy and not organized...then there is that person that thinks it is a disaster! Most…
  • What I find amusing...in the real world (outside MFP) I have never run across anyone that is confused about some of the terminology that is often the center of debate here..."junk food"...processed..."good/bad food". No one seems to care how you phrase things...they all seem to know what these terms mean. I was shocked the…
  • Well I am not saying that your approach is wrong but... Sometimes in our effort and resolve to change our lives we fail to see that we "sometimes" put ourselves above others. Things such as "I eat healthy" said to someone else in a condescending tone is like saying "I eat better than you...I don't eat crap...I wouldn't put…
  • Good for you on checking with your doctor! For a while I used Metamucil or some type of fiber additive. Some people take psyllium husk fiber pills or the powder(powder taste nasty to me). Mostly however I try to control it with the foods that I eat. It is all trial and error. If all else fails for me I have used a mild…
  • My first thought is to see a doctor. My second thought would be is to take a look at your fiber and water intake. See if those two things are causing your problem. Too little fiber(also too much fiber) can cause problems along with not enough water(liquids). I suffer from IBC(constipation) quite often. I can usually trace…
  • It doesn't have to be "seven months of hell" unless you allow it to be.
  • I have found that if I stay on that "cart" there is always a chance of being bounced off. It wasn't until I got off that "cart" and planted my feet firmly on the ground that I was more in control of my actions. I decided that I didn't want to be along for the ride but I wanted my life to be the journey. IOW...I wanted to…
  • For me...I had to take a look at what I wanted my life to be...not what it is now...then start living that life now instead of waiting until some unknown date. This not only includes weight loss but things such as who I wanted to be as a person, what WOE that I wanted, my environment, people around me, activities, the way…
  • I tried WW for a couple of months. For me it had the opposite effect. I found that I wasn't eating enough. I would double track some days on WW and MFP and found that I had only eaten about 900 calories even though I felt as if I was eating enough.
  • If you want to try it move your hours back. Maybe 9pm to 9am. My fast is between 7pm and 11am. It took me a few days to get used to not eating after 7pm but I soon adjusted. Pick the hours that suits your schedule.
  • I sat down one day and really took a look at what I was eating and then tried to really think about how I really wanted to be eating not just now but in the future. I knew that I wanted to eat foods that I really loved, foods that I at least liked and then foods that I wanted to incorporate that I wasn't already eating. I…
  • I promise you there are some good, kind and caring white males in Texas.
  • Have you seen a doctor about your depression? Maybe that could be your first step. Trying to change too much and dealing with depression at the same time can be difficult.
  • What is your reason that makes you drink protein shakes? There are other ways of getting more protein than by drinking something that makes you gag.
  • Despite the fact that you once accused me of trying to diminish someone's IF experience by me stating that IF is not a weight loss diet I will say it again...IF is not a weight loss diet. It is nothing more than a tool to be used for the timing of someone's eating schedule whether you are losing, maintaining or gaining. I…
  • I am almost 67y/o and I never ate on a schedule even as a child. I became 100lbs over weight because my body/hunger cues told me that I was hungry most of the time. Now that I have a structure eating schedule after a couple of weeks I began to realize that I wasn't always hungry...I just thought I was. I eat two main meals…
  • Sorry it wasn't the OP talking about pizza but I didn't notice until it was too late to edit.
