Lol, yah, those are the logical things, totally right that that's what I should do -- and I do for 95% of the time. But sometimes I get into this "I have this awesome diet plan that I'm going to start tomorrow, so today I can eat everything in sight... oh, not on diet today, here's a bowl of cereal before I go to bed" I'm…

Thanks for your well-wishes! I'm not really looking to diagnose my issues, I'm pretty sure they're more psychological than anything, I eat a very healthy and varied diet generally. Just looking for some people with similar issues to create a support group with. Amy

For a little bit of a sciencey perspective: The enzyme responsible for building slow twitch muscles (AMPk) inhibits the enzyme responsible for signalling your body to grow fast twitch muscles (MTORC1). Fast twitch muscles are the ones responsible for 6-8 sec bursts of power. They are also much more voluminous than slow…

I'll be in for this next month!! It's been track season this month... just finished with collegiate track nationals! Yay, so stoked to have other cyclists on MFP.
-
Good to hear from you again!!! I think you're right... consistency is the key. I'm doing ok, I think... I'm training for a summer of about 5k miles of biking... starting out in San Diego, then biking to colorado, driving with friends to the midwest, then racing for a month... then biking back to San Diego. (Maybe) I've…

I ride everyday, just a few miles to school and back, and there really is no cutoff, I've got to get there. As far as long training rides go, I only ride 3~4 days / week. I think my team/friends would murder me if I tried to do more, need recovery time! I have yet to not go on a planned training ride for weather related…

drooling over bikes... lol. But honestly, I'm like 700 miles into the last two weeks... and my good old steel frame bike is so comfortable! However, I'm working towards collegiate A's / cat 2 this summer, and I think I'd be laughed out of the race with downtube shifters...

I can see how it would be easy, but I agree with the others that it's not necessary. I eat vegetarian, and unless it's a day when I'm biking 100+ miles (fairly common, actually), I usually eat fairly low carb as well. There are a few important things to note: 1) NET carbs. Most vegetables are very fiberful, which ups the…

160 is < 8 for me. 150's are 6, 140's are 4.

haha, I like it! I actually was meaning to take a picture of my calves / thighs the other day for this site.

Mine is a puegot triathalon from 1987... hopefully getting a better bike soon!!

How's it going for everyone?? I still haven't dropped my 5lbs, but I'm starting to thinly they may be at least partially leg muscles. I know I've gotten a lot stronger on the bike recently, and hopefully that's translated to some muscle gain. I did a fit test at the gym yesterday, which included an impedance body fat…

Yay! Welcome all the new people! I hope you all stick with us! We can do it together! I'm still struggling to get back to where I want to be right now... Stupid Christmas eating. Working out is on a good track though, so hopefully eventually I can get there.

Man, story of my life right now... I was doing really well for a good three weeks... then had a crappy weekend. Now I'm fighting to get back. But starting to get more serious about the bike racing stuff...I'll hit like 200 miles this week. Starting to think my semester goal isn't going to happen... but I'd like to atleast…

haha, we should call ourselves the 5lbs over christmas group! Mine seems to be almost gone again too, and I've definitely recommitted to the gym. Gotta go extra extra hard if I want to make it to my goal by the end of this quarter. 5 weeks left... I dunno if I can do it :(. Gotta drop another 2 of my christmas weight, then…

seriously me too! Ha d such a bad weekend at the first snowboard race, ate cookies constantly. Grr. Recommitting!
-
How is everyone doing?? I've been back and forth on the bandwagon thing... nice 5 mi run today, and some midweek bike adventures. Hopefully next week gets more consistent.

P90X IS essentially lifting weights at the gym, it's just a specified program of how to do it... 30 day shred is circuits, and designed for people who have abt 30 mins a day to exercise at home, without access to all the fancy equipment. It progresses three levels, and the intensity increases over the 30 days. The free…

Unfortunately Id say more likely than not, yes, you will hit a plateau. Rather quickly, actually, with 10lb weights. But that's kinda only if u keep doing the same excercises. Id say you could beat the plateau I'd you work really hard at constantly changing it up. have you considered the 30 day shred? Perfect for 10 lb…

cool! Yeah, I'd really like to do it too. I keep meaning to try and look into it, and see if my university has one. So school starts again on monday... which I think means it's time to re-evaluate goals again for this next quarter... wanted to share with you all some pictures I took for the beginning of p90x2. My goals for…

oh! As far as body fat percentage, from what I've read, the only really accurate way to get it checked is with an x-ray scanner, or something... That even calipers and impedance scanners are affected by too many variables. But the idea is if you use the same method consistently you can see a trend, even if it's not…

The process definitely brought out some interesting psychological things with the guy that I was with while I lost weight. Sorry for the long post, we went through many stages of this. I started dating a guy right when I was at my heaviest, over 200 lbs. He was definitely very attracted to me then, and has always had a…

I would say 21ish...
-
ugh... boys are silly! Maybe he doesn't know where you stand either, and is trying to be cool / non-challant cause he doesn't think you want more? I've had that happen... I had been doing ok with the christmas weight bloat, lost it all back in time for new years... and then promptly ate my body weight in bad food again…

They are kinda desperate for girl points, so pretty much everything :). I think I'm even getting roped into track! yay that's cool. So how do you deal with the intense calorie burn from long rides? There's no WAY I could come close to eating anything near my net calories when I'm training...

I'm on my college's cycling team! My bike is an 87 puegot triathalon, and she's a beauty!!! I tend to think of her as old faithful... I mean seriously, she's older than me, and sails through over 150 miles a week of riding! Love her!!!
-
I love this! That's great that you're going to get back on the road! Getting adjusted to the different seating position won't take too long, and you'll be flying along! Can you find a cycling group with a developmental ride so you can go out with a group? Maybe it's just me, but I like cycling much better with a group of…

thanks guys! I'm pumped to start P90X2. I think I'm just close enough to my target BF% that I can really hit it with another concentrated round! Woop!
