  • Is that 5 squats in 5 sets? How much time between sets? Slow down and up or normal speed? I'm at about the same point, but my trainer has me doing 3 sets of 8 - 10 at 110# with about 2 minutes in between. Not sure whether I should ask for more weight and fewer reps or just stick with this. On a squat machine I can easily…
  • I love it! I'd better check my socks, too! Interesting Fasting Friday - tell us more about what you do/don't consume. I do a partial fast on Mondays bit then eat a "clean" dinner. Lots of liquids during the day (water & tea mostly) and I have these stupid fiber wafers to take the edge off and keep the guts working (2…
  • I'm back! Had a great cruise - did lots of snorkeling and diving in the ABC islands. Ate pretty well on the cruise, and still managed to gain 2 lbs. How does that happen?! I'm getting to catch up with the podcast. I really enjoyed listening to all the December winners. I'm dying to do one of those Run & Gun events. It…
  • I have the Flex, and it suits me just fine. However, one HUGE recommendation - get it at Best Buy and purchase the insurance plan (about $15). I'm on my third flex in 12 months because they stop charging. You just walk it in and they swap it out on the spot for about $2 (a prorated charge). Fitbit replaced it the first…
  • Let's just say you can put the fitbit in a clothes dryer on "fluff" and let it go all day. The 300,000 steps is very possible (30 days @ 10,000 per), the 26 miles per day doesn't jive with that number.
  • I walk in airports all the time and the gps seems to work well. Fitbit definitely still tracks steps. FYI, if you fly 1000 miles the gps doesn't record that even if you walk on the plane. ;)
  • Snow and 21 degrees today, but I still got in 14,232 steps by 6 PM. FitBit says that is 5.96 miles, but that is way overblown. More like 4. So far I'm on track for the first 6 days!
  • Welcome Jennifer! Yes, this is a great group and Carol and JT are fantastic podcast hosts. We all keep it real! Glad you're here.
  • Dang! It's cold here. 10 degrees and snowing. The walk to work will be less than wonderful today. :\
  • TJ a "gong" is a 100-day commitment to do something. In my case, I've committed to a minimum of 10 pushups per day every day for 100 days. If I miss a day, I start back at day 1. The idea is that it is a process commitment rather than an outcome goal (I will be able to do 60 pushups in a row by Sept 1 kind of thing). I set…
  • I'm hesitant about PA because it is in the mountains in April. It will be COLD, and I've heard there are a lot of injuries because of that.
  • A frigid Monday with lots of wind - don't want to walk outside. :\ But, I'm on day 5 of my 100-day pushup gong and so far, so good. Heading home, and the pup and I will brave the cold.
  • Oh, May might work - and I would probably stay for Cinco de Mayo. I have to plan carefully, since my daughter graduates with her Master's this year, and gets married, and (fingers crossed) moves closer to me. I'll give this one serious thought! Vegas would be great, but is tougher since it is during the regular semester…
  • I'm in, but it won't be a challenge for me since I walk a mile each way to work. I'll commit to 10000 steps each day, which is closer to 3 miles. No whole 30 though - I leave for a cruise on January 8. I do well with eating on cruises, but want a bit of flexibility. And it will be above freezing, so plenty of movement! I'm…
  • Kris, I am glad to have company on my gong. Tried it once before, but simply forgot a few days. I think I will make a "star chart" like I had for chores as a kid, and stick it on the fridge.
  • Yikes! It looks like a bunch of us are making the Tough Mudder in Las Vegas in October a goal? Not sure if I'm in...
  • Thanks! I do use my shoulders and biceps, so this might help!
  • Kris, I really really want to be able to do one chin up. I've never done one, even as a kid, and I keep working to that end. I can do them with band assists (lots of bands), but am nowhere close to an unassisted one. That lack of the ability to pull myself up was the biggest issue for the Tough Mudder!
  • I love this list! It speaks a lot to who you are as a person - someone I am glad to know a bit. My biggest goal is a process goal rather than an outcome goal. I set myself a 100-day gong of at least 10 pushups per day, starting today (Jan 1). So far, so good! Right now my Nike running app shows 210 runs at a total of 713…
  • Nothing wrong with a shake if you find it satisfying. I drink one every morning for breakfast because it is easy, balanced, and holds me until lunch. I'm currently drinking Isagenix, and love that it is a) portable (little packets, and I travel a lot) and b) made with whey from grass-fed NZ cows and c) tastes good. I don't…
  • Happy New Year everyone! It is 9:44 in the morning and I haven't eaten bad food yet! Woo hoo! Seriously, I am challenging myself with a 100-day gong (a la The Health Bridge folks). Starting today, a minimum of 10 pushups per day for 100 days in a row. It's a small challenge, but one I want to do to improve my pushups so I…
  • Good morning! Heron, that pizza looks wonderful. A cauliflower crust?! Is it actually crusty that you can pick up a slice, or do you have to eat it with a fork? My mouth is watering. I haven't had pizza in nearly two years... Off to the gym for bootcamp!
  • Good day today. Took Mom out to celebrate her 77th birthday and NO CAKE! No dessert at all, and just a nice cobb salad for lunch. Score!
  • Heron, I've tried other protein chips and they scratch the "salty snack" itch. I haven't tried the quest ones, but their bars are fantastic. I didn't know they made these chips. You might want to try a GNC to see if they have single bags, because they are big on Quest products. Better to taste first if you can.
  • An ox yoke! Awesome! I live in farm country, so maybe I can find one and make a fool of myself. :o Today will be an interesting day. I'm committed to a day of writing (for academic journals), so it will be very stationary. I can do some standing work, but no treadmill. They are providing lunch, which is usually from a…
  • Amazing interview with Vinnie Tortorich! You just helped me get my syllabus together for the Optimal Health course I teach this fall. I wasn't familiar with him before, and am now looking at everything he has. I was so NSNG clean until a few months ago. Just a few weeks of cheating is such a dumb idea. What was I…
  • Good morning! Today is the first day of your future - what do you want your future to be? Make it a great one~
  • Well, today was a bit of a bust for food/exercise, but I had a great day with my daughter and with former in-laws who I haven't seen in years. Worth it! Tomorrow will be much better. Happy birthday Arturo!
  • Wow, that lap band story should make us all eat better! Scary! Fab Friday, everyone! I have no idea what is in store today. My daughter is visiting from NY, and she has a Christmas surprise planned. I'm excited. Lifted 55 lbs in my bench press yesterday. For me that is really great, though I know for many of you it…
