Sounds like you are doing good. And at 74, nice!! Keep it up

Good luck with whatever you decide.... You can influence where your body adds/develops muscle. Not where it stores fat..... But you should do full body work, IMO.
-
That was the exact pic I was thinking of when I told her to work legs only
-
Yeah that $#!% is old school myth crap.
-
Just work your legs, and adjust your calories accordingly. IMO -- I say do whole body, but hey, whatever you want.

weight gain is done by eating more food. Not what exercises you do or don't do.
-
Give it at least 2 weeks...then up the calories if no change.....
-
You can add muscle, by eating in a surplus and lifting weights... But with a surplus will come weight in other areas, mostly mid-section (abs, love handles, lower back), and since you are female, the thighs. Just the way the human body has evolved... So of the more lucky/genetically blessed among us will not put a lot of…

Nice job!!! Looking good

Nice....well done

calculators are good, in that they will get you in the ballpark of where you need to be....but then you have to do your homework once there.
-
You figure it out by trial and error That is why you log and track your food intake, then you can figure out what that amount of food will do.
-
good luck

leangains.com That is the protocol I go by

I do IF, Been doing it for over 2 years now. I like it and works good for me. It is not a silver bullet, it is just an eating plan. And as with other diets, it still comes down to over all calories consumed.
-
Past couple months I have been doing similar. Works for me. I will say though that if my intention is to cut down and get more lean, I have to stay on point all 7 days...
-
Wow. Good luck.

Also of note, if you don't read those links. Leptin is secreted by fat cells..... Thus if you body fat, then you produce leptin. The lower you get in body fat, the less leptin you will produce.....it is a survival adaptation. The body knows that if stores of energy (body fat) are low, then it needs to take measures to…
-
We will agree to disagree. Leptin was once thought to be the miracle supplement for burning fat due to tests performed. But then they started studying people that were fat/overweight and found their bodies were full of leptin. They just quit responding.…

Prolly just helps with your sanity more than anything when on a cut.
-
Low leptin is only a concern if you are at a low body fat % When overweight/fat/obese, then your body is full of leptin.

calories burned during exercise can be wrong, by a lot. I would say know what you need to eat daily, your TDEE. Then eat 20% less than that.....regardless of calories burned during exercise. e.g. If you need 2000 calories to maintain your current weight. Then to lose, you would want to eat around 1600 any calories burnt…
-
In regards to weight gain, loss or maintenance it comes down to overall calories you consume Doesn't matter if you cycle macros or calories. If you consume more than you need, you will put on weight over time Consume less than you need, you will drop weight over time.

Thanks for the post SS

One other thing, is that he is basically at what the minimum recommended allowances are.... He started at 170 I think it was....so if he is doing 0.3 gr / lb of body weight, that puts him ~50gr

My only guess is to help cut down on the fat that will be stored. Based on writings by Lyle McDonald, it is pretty hard for carbs to convert to fat....and the carb stores in a person are pretty high, as well as the fact that they will be oxidized at a higher priority than what fat will be. So while he will put on fat....I…
-
How many days in a row can you keep up that consumption? That has been the big hindrance for me. I can keep up about 2 - 3 days of consuming ~3500, but then after that I just have no appetite for it, so will only hit around 2500 (usually less) for the next 4 - 5 days.
-
What was calorie intake before? Going to 2750 is gonna be a big jump..... I would also say that more protein would be good.....
-
Came across this study....so lends some credibility to what the guy in the article I posted did. http://suppversity.blogspot.com/2012/03/if-you-go-high-carb-you-better-go.html

Wow. Better man than I. Good luck
