Are you logging your food? Just knowing where you stand can give you the awareness to avoid stuff you shouldn't eat. Within a week of starting to log stuff, I cut out pretty much all my evening snacks... unless I cut some calories somewhere else during the day.

She's been a bicycle commuter for about 25 years. She's also a people person- the more contact she can have with "normal folks", the more she likes it. So the Rolling Town Halls are right up her alley. She also has regular town hall meetings in coffee shops around the city.

I think what it comes down to is that the calorie estimates attributed to exercise are just that: Estimates. There's probably a pretty wide variance in terms of efficiency from one person to the next. So I might lift a 50-poiund weight to a height of 4 feet to accomplish 200 foot-pounds of work (equals 0.065 kilocalories).…
