  • I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I got down to 101 lbs (don't freak--100 lbs was my age 20's weight and I was very lean and healthy, with muscle). Anyhow , 3 years post-baby, I was in the gym several times a week doing weights- including ab exercises. My abs were toned and I was lean. But I still had a little bit…
  • Good news, then! I get low blood sugar when I eat lunch late-- I don't get tingly, but I do get spacey. So spacey I can't concentrate on my work, so I *have* to go eat lunch asap or I don't get anything done.
  • I've gone from a very tight 10 to a comfortable 8 after losing 14 lbs.
  • Not now, but soon... and I *do* have some nice things stored away that I want to fit in again. Today I found I could pull my largest pair of jeans on and off without even undoing them. They'll leave the house when they start looking truly ridiculous.
  • Good job! You look great-- I bet you feel better, too. At the risk of sounding creepy, your backside looks great in the bikini.
  • Update on me... I saw the gyno last week and she presciibed a trial of Osphena. I asked about testosterone and she referred me to a BHRT physician who she thinks is very good. So now I have to wait to see another doctor. And meantime, I can't take the Osphena because it will skew the results of hormone tests I will get…
  • Wild Turkey. I'd much rather have a nice Scotch.
  • Try cutting out grains and potatoes and sweets. Eat as much fruit and veg as you want. This has been working very well for me. Once you get used to fewer carbs, your body adjusts and you won't crave them as much. But it will take a few days of strong willpower to cut the addiction.
  • Give them to charity and don't look back. That's a cleaner break then selling them at a yard sale. Giving away your larger clothes cuts off your "escape route", so to speak. If your new, smaller clothes start getting tight, it is a wakeup call. Don't let the big clothes in your closet be a "snooze button".
  • Weelll, it would be 11.4 lbs since last September--- but I slacked off after losing the first few lbs-- I maintained the loss--, and did not restart in earnest until about 5 weeks ago. I've lost 7 pounds in five weeks, which sounds really slow, but I didn't have a whole lot to lose in the first place, plus I'm small.
  • Have you tried cutting carbs and increasing protein and fat? I'm doing a relaxed version of the Paleo diet: No grains, no refined sugars, plenty of protein. -When I do this my blood sugar stays steady and I don't get hungry or headachy and feel awful. -When I don't get hungry or headachy or feel awful, I can restrict my…
  • 0.4 pounds a week is not terrible-- especially if you are exercising, which will put on muscle pounds. However-- some people are going to go ballistic on me for saying this-- but people your height (5'0') and mine (5'2") can go below the 1200 calorie per day minimum and be fine. (This "One size fits all" rule is totally…
  • How long it takes depends on how big you are to start and how much of a calorie deficit you have each day-- People with a lot to lose usually lose very quickly at first. People close to their ideal weight lose more slowly. I'm in the second category, but I've lost 6 lbs in the last month (down to 118.6 today). The only way…
  • You are fortunate that yours cooperates. My husband goes out and buys his own junk food. He won't eat fruits, or vegs not on his "approved" list even if they are served to him. One time he was at my parent's house and saw my mom cooking chili. He doesn't like beans. Without a word, he walked out the door and drove to…
  • Yeah, same here. My husband also drinks a lot of beer. He's probably 30 or 40 lbs overweight. He works out and has big muscles, and he thinks that makes the fat gut OK. He won't eat fruit. He only eats a limited range of vegetables. I have as much as told him that if his health fails I will have some resentment about…
  • Good for you-- that's how I felt-- like my issues had me trapped. And they were messing up my relationship with my family. I had to do something. Hopefully the Wellbutrin will work for you, but it it doesn't,, keep trying until you find something that does.
  • I've been on Lexapro and Wellbutrin since 2006. I lost weight at first, then I slowly began to gain.. However--- I do NOT think it was necessarily the fault of the meds. Becoming less anxious resulting in me worrying less about my weight, so I kind of let it go. (Used to be if I gained 5 lbs, I cut back calories until I…
  • I use Nature's Plus Spiru-tein unsweetened vanilla protein powder. I get it at my local health food store, but they sell it on Amazon, too. I really like it-- It tastes fine to me. I mix it up in a blender with 1/2 cup water, 1/2 cup plain yogurt or kefir, and 4 ice cubes. I don't need my shakes to taste sweet and I sure…
  • My cycles were like clockwork until I turned 51, then they became irregular, and since my 54th birthday, non existent. I am sure this has something to do with the weight I have gained over the last few years. And I know it has something to do with loss of libido too. On the bright side, I haven't had any hot flashes or…
  • I wish I was ! Deflated, that is. Keep at it. You could be gaining muscle while losing fat. A few things that help me (a lot): 1. Low-ish carbs (cut out bread and rice and such) , especially in the morning. 2. Don't eat snacks in the evening after dinner. 3. Drink a lot of water 4. Drink tea instead of coffee 5.…
  • I always feel better, sleep better, and have more energy after I cut out simple sugars and grains (including whole grains). But it takes several days of "withdrawal" to get to the point where I feel OK. If I go "off the wagon" it can be difficult to get back on.

  • I agree with Alix. You don't look pregnant, you just have belly fat. A lot of women gain fat in the belly, hips, and thighs and very little in the upper body. It's just where your excess poundage decided to settle. Lose some weight and the belly will shrink. You may also benefit from upper body weight training to help…
  • Try using olive oil in your cooking and on your salads. Also try a glass of wine everyday. I switched to using only olive oil (instead of canola) about a year ago, and I was drinking probably 6 or 7 glasses of wine a week. I had my cholesterol measured at a routine checkup and my HDL was 113--- which is very high. IT had…
  • BMI is only a rough guide and doesn't give an accurate picture for everyone. Get your body fat % measured. If you go to a gym, they may be able to do it. Or you can buy a set of skinfold calipers online and do it yourself. Here are a couple of charts that show the ranges of healthy fat %:…
  • I love a-ha. The video to this song was very cool, too. They were still putting out music up until a couple years ago and Morten Harket's voice is still amazing.
