I've been running for a little over a year now. When I first started I could not jog a mile. Since I started running, I've ran three half marathons, lost 65 pounds and started training for a full in December (goal time 3:15). My time has gone from 12 min miles to 7:30 min miles. The thing that has helped me the most is…

Boy you got hammered on the short marathon thing! LOL!!!! Yes you have come a long way my friend. I think you're ready for a full marathon.

It may be the heat. What are the temperatures like? The dew point is a good indicator to look at during your run. The higher it is the harder it is to cool your body through evaporation. Also make sure you stay hydrated before, during and after. Bring water with you on your runs and take a drink every half mile or so.…

I started on Higdon's Intermediate half plan about a year ago. It's a great plan to start out with. I made great progress taking the mileage at an easy pace (going from 13 min miles to now running 7:30 min miles and losing 60 lbs in the process) . Once a week I would try to hit my 3 or 4 mile run hard...basically a little…

Tape it up, rub some dirt on it and get after it. :)

Hello!!! I love new runner!! I've been running for about a year and can't seem to stop. I'm currently running around 50 miles per week with my training. I've ran two half marathons and have one more scheduled in August. I'm also signed up for my first full marathon in December. Here's my PB's for reference and bragging…

I've lost a ton of weight working out at home. I started walking then running and am the fittest I've ever been. I decided to train for a half marathon and have since ran two of them. The weight just started to fall off once I started really focusing on exercise. Here's some pictures of my first and second race with before…

From what you've said you are totally ready to run a half. I just finished my second and was only running around 25 miles per week. Here's a link with pictures of my first and second race if you're interested. http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/1224840-from-half-marathon-to-full-running-machine-lots-of-pics Best of…

Here are some pictures from before and after my race in Sarasota, Florida. I had promised my sisters if they trained for a race I would come run it with them. They did the work so I flew down to Florida and ran with them. It was such an amazing trip. Just before getting into the race corral: After the race with my sisters:…

OK Logansmummy, It's time to do something. First thing you have to do is commit to logging your diet honestly and accurately. You can't lose weight if you do not know what you're eating and how many calories you consumed. Take two weeks to perfect logging and hitting your deficit goals. Too many people try to do everything…

Oh Sue that is such great news. You have been a huge inspiration to me and I'm so glad I could follow your progress while working towards my own goals. I read one of your posts back when I started over 50 pounds ago and new you were a warrior in a wheelchair. You’ve gone through some really tough battles all while keeping…

I'm a new runner and started out really slow too (12 min miles). In August I decided to train for a half marathon (I had never run a race previously). It was a very lofty goal since at the time I could hardly run a mile. What I've found is speed comes with time and consistent training. My real improvements have shown up…

Wow perfect match for what I have just been through. I always thought I would hate to running but have learned I love it. You get to push yourself to the point where you don't think you can go anymore then go further, pushing past the pain...what a sense of accomplishment you can get from running. My first race ever will…

The thing that has worked best for me is doing one day of speed training where you run outside your comfort zone for short distances at a faster speed. I do my speed training once a week and complete a three mile run. The first mile is as fast as I can go and the next two are are my half marathon race pace. My pace has…
