Like said before, if you have a smart phone use the app. Most people take the phone wherever they go. Everytime you eat or drink log it. I usually log mine while waiting for the food to arrive or while cooking it. The scan feature is really nice. If you eat a can or frozen dinner or protein drink just use the bar scanner.…

I looked through your photos and you look just fine to me. My advice is to quit worrying about the scale and worry about how you feel and look. Body shape / inches are more important than scale weight. Do you have any particular goals about fitness or just how you look? I would maintain and focus on fitness. I think…

I would try to avoid conflict and be more passive by Running earlier or later Drive somewhere safer to run The lack of shoulder and space to me appears to be a not so safe place to run. It might not be this woman but someone else in the future that looks away or swerves. To me it isn't worth the risk to run in an unsafe…

You didn't mention your foot / toe angle or depth. You might try this to see if it helps. If not maybe a visit to the doctor or at least some ibuprofen Start empty bar, if possible use low bar position Toes pointing out 30 degrees Shove your knees out, so that the alignment is with your toes on the way down and up Go to…

It is definitely possible as others have stated. I could do about 26 minute 5K at 235 with 30% body fat. I'm now at 195 ish and did 5 miles in 38:30 last week. I mostly lift and play soccer and run once a week. So keep at it, you can do it. I found I got faster as I lost body fat and gained some strength in deadlift and…

Mine works. I have iphone with latest OS. I had to go into MapMyRun settings I think and tell it to sync with MyFitNessPal. It works, but sometimes takes like 10 minutes before it shows up on MyFitNessPal. You may find the calories MapMyRun estimates to be too high. MyFitnessPal and My Polar heart monitor show about 25%…

Look at Craig's list and garage sales. You can usually find really good little used equipment fairly inexpensively.

I know of this one some people reference http://www.exrx.net/Lists/Directory.html

I can tell by ninerbuff's post he knows what he is talking about. However in big commercial gyms, I have found that 95% or more of personal trainers are taught a bunch of bunk and don't even know how to do the exercises with correct form themselves. Less chance of injury if you do a bunch of machines. I watch these guys…

If you make written or mental notes of your heart rate at different times, you will be able to track some progress. Let's say you jog for spurts and see it go up. As you get more fit as you walk you will see it drop faster and further. Also, you will notice as you get fitter, you will be able to run at the same pace longer…

The gym I workout in has 20 treadmills in a row. I run sprints alot on them. There are maybe 5 that are pretty quiet and don't shake. All of them seem fine for walking or light jogging, but those Clydesdale's among us need one of the better ones. I find myself always focusing to get on 1 of the 5 that are smooth and don't…

I'm a bit fan of total in versus total out regardless of time of day. Some people and some suggest that eating big before bed will disturb your sleep. There are some studies that confirm somethings or too much will disturb your sleep.…

I'm a big fan of all things in balance. I set mine at 40C/30P/30F. I usually end up at 45/25/30 . If I feel I'm too low in the protein area, I have a protein shake. I find less fat and I have hunger problems. Fat and proteins tend to make me feel fuller longer. If I eat about that ration, I never have hunger issues, but…

Are you doing them the same day as Bench Press and after? You might try them first or on an alternate day from bench press. I was stuck a long time. I typically do strict overhead press. What finally got be going again was this HST protocol for full body lifting, switched to Arnold Press with dumbells during 6 weeks Done…

Sounds like you might be doing circuit training. Nothing wrong with that. Circuit training would be something like Squat 1 set Bench 1 Set Row 1 Set Overhead Press 1 set Curl 1 Set Triceps extensions 1 set Shrugs 1 set Repeat circuit Many folks do that while cutting with little to no rest between between exercises During…

A couple things to also consider 1). form, make sure form is good. google Rippetoe teaches the dead-lift. Make sure your back is not rounded. The bar is taking a vertical path. Bar over mid foot, behind or about the shoulder blades and goes up and down straight 2). Volume. Dead lift is the hardest lift to recover from.…

Awesome thread! Great work! I wish I found this thread like 7 or 8 years ago! I was stuck spinning my wheels and have come to the same conclusions. Now I'm the same height and weight as you from 238. But I have more love handles and body fat. Working on a cut right now. I did a Starting Strength 3x5 lift versus 5x5 ice…

It's generally a pretty simple science So I would say its 1 of 2 things 1). You are either eating / drinking more calories than you think 2). Medical condition such as a thyroid problem 2 is vary rare but possible, typically people are consuming more calories than they think
-
You have it correct. So your focus is fat loss right now. Many studies show it's best to focus on one thing at a time so you are not spinning your wheels. You should lift heavy with compound lifts (e.g. squats, press, dead lift, rows, etc). You are trying to tell your body to keep the muscle it has. Also eating enough…

Just for a comparison. I weight 200 pounds. I set the elliptical on the highest setting for height. I set the resistance at 14 out of 20. After 20 minutes, I move down to 12. In 40 minutes I burn between 500 and 550 calories. This is with an average heart rate of 140s. I run 5 miles in 41 minutes. It is usually about 750…

Look good, most times simpler = better You might add in deadlift traditional or stiff legged deadlift once a week

The suggestion to try out a new balance store is a good one. New Balance and Brooks are my favorites. I use stability shoes, so I use the New Balance 940, Brook's Addiction 10, and Brooks Beast. I have mostly used New Balance for the last 15 years though. I find the last better than many brands, so the price is worth it…

Actually if its colder you burn more calories. Your body has to heat itself. If its hot, you might lose some water weight by sweating. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/11/16/calories-cold-weather_n_1096331.html…

I think you are on the correct path. I have suffered through the same problem on multiple occasions. I also have custom orthodics made by a podiatrist. The best stretch is the one where you stand on a board about 45 degrees for a while. Do this after ever run and a couple times a day. Not just a quick stretch, but stretch…

I have an FT7 which is very similar. I find the sensor / strap has to be very tight and a bit wet or sometimes it will lose my heart rate. I have a really old polar heart monitor, maybe 10 years old. The chest strap takes no batteries and it still works fine. It never has an issues and I use it when on a cardio machine.…

Two books from Mark Rippetoe Starting Strength and Practical Programming The New Rules of Lifting for Women: Lift Like a Man, Look Like a Goddess Those two or three books should do you good. Starting Strength is a really good book and should be your bible for form.

I tend to avoid high caloric foods that are low in nutrition. I try to fill up on lean meats, veggies, yogurt, legumes, wheat bread, 1% milk and some fruit. By trying to hit my micro and macro nutrients, it just short of evolved this way. I find it hard to eat pasta, rice, fried stuff, pizza, etc. I do eat those foods…

I know many people that kept the weight off after slim fast and many who gained it back. I know many people regardless of diet, low fat, low carb, paleo, etc, who have gained it back. The key will be the transition. If you transition to a healthy eating style, it will work.

hates People in the only two power racks doing non power exercises e.g. curls Fat, naked old men shaving in the sink, can you please use a towel? Afterwards, do you have to leave the sink a complete mess? Not putting up the weights, leaving them randomly laying around Messy pigs, if you do this at home, no wonder your wife…
