for the elliptical, on MFP there's no option for how HARD you worked on the elliptical. so if you were on it but were on the lowest setting, there's no way you'd burn as many calories as MFP says you did. i've found that ellipticals that i can put my weight & age into will overestimate my real calorie burn by about double.…

i'm no expert, but i've done a bit of reading and also have been doing cardio for years and strength training for almost a year. so my advice is based on my results and what i've read as far as how to achieve results. if you can't do more than 10 - 15 minutes of cardio because of time constraints, then you need to make…

Trader Joe's 72% imported Belgian dark chocolate is REALLY good!

Well, first of all, after a certain higher weight, your skin will have stretched too much to eliminate any chance of having excess skin once you get to an ideal weight. That's just the unfortunate truth. I would say that having 100+lbs to lose is past that marker. I had about 75 lbs to lose, and I have 10 lbs left to go,…

Yup, they're totally fine if they fit into your calorie allowance for the day.

It will smell really nasty -- pretty much like spoiled regular milk. Probably taste disgusting too -- but I didn't try it once I smelled it! Happened to me once when I opened a carton that I had opened about 2 weeks earlier.

I've been vegan for around 10 months. I, too, try to avoid things such as bread, pasta, and other carbs that aren't directly from fruits or vegetables. Mainly, I love to just snack throughout the day on fruits and veg in order to stave away hunger in between meals. I'll have a big bowl of steamed vegetables (add some…

100 lbs is really low for being 5' 3" - 5' 4". The lowest you should go at that height is probably 105, but even then you'd be nearly unhealthily thin at that point. 115 - 120 is more like where you should aim for. And yes, measurements are more important than the scale, because you could be light but have little muscle…

Wow, thank you all so much for the replies. There have been a lot of good points and perspectives pointed out to me and I definitely will try to apply those to myself. I've very much disliked my body since I was around 8 or 9 years old, by which time I was overweight, and in most of those last 15 years I have treated it…

....i love broccoli :ohwell:

oh my gosh that sounds so good. i want to try it! i have been vegan for almost 11 months now, but have not made any complex recipes such as that. honestly, i like to just take a bunch of fruits, vegetables, grains, legumes, and sometimes oils and put them in different combinations. what's really good is taking half a baked…

i, too, struggle with impatience, especially when you have a lot to lose. the key for me is not focusing on "i lost 2lbs this week, that's great, but i've got 30 (or 40, 50, 60, 100...) lbs left! i feel like i'm NEVER going to get there -- it's going to take FOREVER! or what if i never even make it there?!". i struggled…

as you get lighter, the calories you need to maintain get lower, 'cause your body doesn't need to expend as much energy to carry itself around. so, in order to keep losing, you do have to eat less (or exercise more) than you had to eat/exercise to lose at 153, 140, even 135. every time i lose more weight, i go to my…

i basically do the same thing. when eating out, i always check MFP or google to see if the restaurant has a website that lists nutrition info. sometimes places i thought wouldn't have any nutrition info online actually do (and some are already entered into MFP). but if a place does not have info, i break the meal down and…

i've been taking zoloft for about ten years. weight gain was not a symptom for me (i just gained weight from eating too much, haha). as far as withdrawals go, they will taper you off of it when they deem that you don't need it anymore. tapering off really reduces the chances of having any kind of withdrawals.

i like Amy's brand!

it depends on what area of my body i work on, but here is some of what i do: leg press - ~200 lbs hip abduction - ~75 lbs hip adduction - ~100 lbs lat pulldown - ~80 lbs leg curl - ~60 lbs each of these i do 4, occasionally 5 sets of 15 reps. i do pushups, mountain climbers, planks, lunges, and lift a 15lb dumbell behind…

the thing is is that i *have* been doing strength training, since oct/nov last year. usually 2 or 3x a week. i do a couple of body weight exercises but it's mostly weights. and i do use heavy weights for me, trust me, not 5lb ones. i can definitely see muscle improvement and definition in my arms and my outer quadriceps. i…

cauliflower crust is a common option for people who want/need gluten-free. i'm sure it's not bad, either. google search for images of them. they look good to me!

so eat a bit more. if you eat an extra ~150, maybe even 200 calories, i'm betting you're still going to lose weight. i'm the same height and also put it at sedentary so i know what our calorie range is to lose weight. feeling hungry makes me grumpy, resentful, and frustrated. if i feel i'm not denying myself too much and…

i have the same problem. they say that skin may take up to 2 or 3 years to tighten up as much as it can. proper hydration and losing slowly seem to be recommended to minimize loose skin. but because of the amount of weight you lost, it's not going to go away. surgery will be the only option if you really want that area to…

i have found that MFP's calorie goals for me have worked. now, like others have said, what it shows as burned for exercise i take with a big grain of salt. i use a HRM anyways for most exercise i do (i also deduct a slight amount from what the HRM says too because i know it can overestimate as well). but i don't exercise…

well, it's good to know that at least a few people have the same problem! it's so frustrating and disappointing :(

yay for vegans! i've been vegan since october 2013. you can add me if you want :)

^ this. for most people, weight loss will not be constantly steady each week. when i first started losing, it did come off weekly for about a month, but that was because i had a lot to lose and i had really changed my diet. but after that, i had plenty of times where my weight would fluctuate a couple of lbs each week, or…

oh -- oops! i got confused between them. thanks for correcting me.

lmao i'm definitely in the IDGAF camp too!

yes. when you burn 300 calories through exercise on a day you ate 1700, you'd be netting 1400, which puts you under your calorie goal. if you eat 2000 calories on a day you burn 300, you'll net your goal of 1700. any exercise calories you do should be added to your calorie goal to figure out how many calories you should be…

yes, i do log them unless it's a very miniscule amount (something that probably amounts to 25 calories or less). i'm vegan and a large portion of my food comes from vegetables! though you may eat less vegetables than i do, counting them is still necessary... because though they have fewer calories, they're still calories,…
