wow, if this is true then that makes me feel so much better. i thought that improved fitness level = less energy expended... so perceived effort has no impact on calorie burn?

I love the asparagus debate that got thrown in here :D Just to clear it up, I was only thinking of saying something to the cashier IF the customer had left, but since she decided to stay, and I was done and checked out and she was still there, it didn't end up working that way. I know she makes money off of selling it and…

And OP -- unless you are very short and very thin already, 1200 calories/day will not make you gain visible weight and won't make you gain visible fat. If you've been eating ~600 calories for at least a couple of weeks, your muscles may hold onto some water weight at first but it should only be a few lbs (water is HEAVY,…

I'm 5' 4" (height matters here I reckon), and I've gone from 192 to 118 (currently in the mid/low 120s but 118 was my lowest) lbs, and yes, I had/have excess, loose, wrinkly skin on my lower stomach and inner thighs, and a *tiny* bit on the backs of my upper arms. It bothers me a lot and I want to get surgery to remove it…

literally just about everything.

Dry roasted salted edamame is great, AND it's super high in protein (22g for 195cal serving).
-
no, that's on the fast side, actually.
-
sadly it'll just come off where it wants to, you can't force your body to lose from a particular spot. abdominal fat is also the last to go for me and it's maddening >X|

Garden of Life Raw Protein has 17g of protein for just 90 calories! It's the lowest plant-based protein:calorie ratio I've come across, and it looks like it's low even for animal-based protein drinks. Flavors come in chocolate, vanilla chai, and original, I think.

how long and how strenuous of a hike is it to burn that many calories? :open_mouth:
-
it sucks, but i'm about a 25 minute drive away (always because of traffic at the only time i'm able to go to the gym). i wish there was a gym closer to me :'(

i find that strawberries and bananas cover any bitter-ish foods like spinach or kale quite nicely. and as a bonus, strawberries are quite low calorie (bananas on the other hand you have to be more careful with). you can have a LOT of strawberries for 100 calories. like 300 grams. pretty nice ;)
-
i wish a banana burned 100 calories to digest. i'd eat a lot more of them! ;)
-
As others have said, it's all about calories in vs. calories out. You can be the healthiest eater on the planet but if you eat more than your maintenance and don't burn off the excess, you will end up gaining weight. With that said, when I started losing weight the second time around, i went vegan (had been thinking about…

I do watch it, it helps keep me motivated and also reminds me where I could have ended up if I didn't change. I also love to see other people's weight loss journeys!

i've had vegan black bean brownies. they were absolutely delicious and i read the ingredients after tasting them and couldn't believe i saw "black beans" as the FIRST ingredient! don't knock it 'til you try it. tasted pretty much exactly like any other yummy chocolate brownie around.

thanks for everyone's replies so far :) as for my weight/strength routine, i'm not following a specific program. i do mostly machines -- hip adduction, hip abduction, leg press, butterfly, lat pulldown, seated row, and the chest press are the ones i do most often. i also do Romanian deadlifts (at least that's what i was…

what are you confused about?
-
yes MFP always shows way over what i burn/would burn. i use a Polar FT4 HRM with a chest strap, and even then i always subtract 75 cals from the total after a workout, just to adjust for any error the HRM has inherent in it. for cardio machines -- i only use ones that i can enter my weight in, and when i do enter my weight…

i have lost ~70 lbs and i have loose skin on my lower abdomen and inner thighs. it definitely causes me distress and unless i see a miraculous change in another year or so, i'm going to have surgery to fix it. it interferes with clothes fitting me properly -- i'm a different size in my abdomen than my chest or my butt, so…
-
yes, i'm certain it's off too. anything that MFP says i burned i usually halve it. same for cardio machines (even after i input my weight in the machine as 15 lbs less than what i really am so help counteract any overestimation). it's why i just use a heart rate monitor instead (and i even deduct 75 cals off of that one as…

i've lost 70 lbs so far, my goal is about another 7 lbs. sloooowwwwly working on it.

been overweight since i was 7 years old. 5' 4", at 15 i was 192 lbs, lost ~50 lbs over a year and a half, then gained ~30 lbs back over the course of 5 years. over the last 1.5 years i've lost that and then some and i'm now at 122 lbs. but i know what it's like to grow up and only ever be overweight. i've never worn a…

5' 4", ~122 lbs. the majority goes straight to my abdomen and inner thighs. i feel i look disproportionate and pregnant, too. i've gone down from 192 lbs, and i still have a belly hang, if you can believe it! even if some of that hang is from the extra skin i had when i was heavier, it's still the WORST and majorly…

about 23 miles.

i never peel 'em, i love the skin (especially in Granny Smiths!). i just give them a good washing in some vinegar-water solution.

i've lost over 40 lbs being vegan :)

you're right OP, an extra large apple can easily have close to 200 cals. i always seek out the smallest ones, sometimes going to the farmer's market is the only way i can find ones small enough to meet my calorie goals. i also weigh the apple whole, then cut around the core of the apple, gnaw off of it what i can and then…

i know EXACTLY what you mean, and i'm sure a lot of us here do. food is so powerful on our brains, ESPECIALLY when it is processed and packaged ('cause stuff is added to it to make us want it even more!). this is a struggle for me still and i feel it will take a whole lot of hard work to stop it. i try chewing gum or…
