Thanks everyone. I'm a big fan of lifting. I've tried the cardio and very low calorie stuff (calories in vs out, right? Lower the better?) and just couldn't do it. I ended up over eating at the end of the day, or feeling hungry, tired and cranky all the time. That led to yo-yo weight loss/gain and eventually insulin…

I've been lifting heavy for about 4 months. I don't think I look bulky. B) The left side is me today. The right side (gym pic) is my first day of lifting. 12/28/15.

Side view...

It was obviously a reeeeeeeeally slow loss. I'm pretty muscular under this layer of pudge, so I thought maybe that had something to do with it.

Me! I'm getting married in October. I bought my dress last February, and blew my ACL last March. I packed on a good 15-20lbs and my dress doesn't even fit anymore!! I'm hoping to not only lose that 15-20lbs but I want to lose an additional 20-30lbs before the wedding. I was cleared to start my normal workouts (sans hard…

I've shrunk out of my "fat jeans." Except for a long time, those "fat jeans" we're my "omg I can't breathe when I sit down jeans." :p

I like you.

We both look at women/men we find attractive. Occasionally, we'll discuss it, as I find a lot of the women he finds attractive, attractive as well. If he was openly comparing me to other women... Now that would be an issue. I think most of the issue comes when a partner compares THEMSELVES to someone else, and gets pissy…

All showered and ready to see Deadpool. >:)

I've had 2 kids, and with the pregnancies and my unhealthy lifestyle before and during, I gained 55lbs the first time and 45lbs the second. Stretch marks ALLLLLL over my midsection, from my ribs to my pelvic bone, and from side to side. I also have lots of excess skin from them. :/

Just got home from the gym, chillin' on the bed until my legs work well enough to manage a proper shower. :#

It provides childcare at no cost. The weight room is great and generally full of helpful people, or at the least, people who get their workouts done and move on without having to sit and chatter. The staff is great. There's a pool, hot tub, cardio room separate from the weight room, and sauna if I choose to use those…

I love it. I was up to 60 days (a new record for me) when influenza came in and knocked me out for 2 days. Back to the start...

Thanks for all the input. Like I said, I am very new at this, and appreciate the input. My end goals are to become a powerlifter. It seems such a lofty goal right now, since I still don't know a whole lot about lifting AND I'm very overweight. Obese even. :/ So I appreciate the advice and input.

So you only use your max weight every couple of months?

I have a mild case of the flu (doc says not contagious anymore) and I went for the first time today after 3 days off. I took some DayQuil and pre-workout and went. I wasn't at peak performance, but it felt good. I listened to my body and took my time as I am still achy and fighting the fatigue.
-
I actually enjoy working out. Anything that makes me sweaty, fatigued, and spent. I've used it to control anxiety and mild depression for years.

EEEEEEE!!!! Doctor Who fan here, too!! Anyway, back to the subject, I think that's a good idea. I was at 149-150lbs about 5 years ago, and wanted to lose about 20-25lbs then. Then, (due to divorce) I lost my health insurance, and had to go off the meds controlling my PCOS. I put on 55lbs in 2 years despite being more…

The only labs I have that are out of a healthy range are related to PCOS. I was only asking because I wasn't sure of A weight goal to shoot for.
-
I already like what I see in the mirror, I'm just liking it more since I've been lifting. :-) I had one doc tell me to shoot for 110lbs and another tell me to shoot for no less than 140. I carry most of my weight in my thighs, Chest, hips and upper arms. I lift heavy and do cardio 4-5 times a week. I try to eat between…

I've always had big ole arms and shoulders. I'm not complaining though. I say embrace your guns and get bigger shirts. ;)

I'll join in! I was just diagnosed last year, at the age of 33!! I had been on birth control for a while, and when I went off of it, within a year my hair was falling out, I gained weight and couldn't lose it, and had a bunch of symptoms that pointed to hormonal imbalance. I was terrified that being on birth control had…

I have a VERY physically demanding job. I'm an aide in a nursing home, and regularly move people who can't move themselves. So technically, I'm not entirely new at lifting... Just new at lifting weights. ;-)

I really do feel like I'm wasting my "gifts" so to speak, lol. That's what really motivated me to start getting serious about getting in shape. (That, and an upcoming wedding ;-)) I keep in mind, if I'm impressed with what I can do now, imagine what it'll be like in a year! Motivation for sure, lol.

I'm going to have to look into those programs. :) Right now we are doing something my guy found on a body building forum. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Thanks. I started lifting at my max today. I'm doing 3 sets of 5/5/5 (not sure how to put it) at 130lbs on rows, 2.5 sets of 5/4/2 (I tuckered out lol) at 110lbs on pull downs, 3 sets of 12/10/8 at 80lbs on back extensions, and then a bunch of ab work. I didn't do a whole lot as far as lifting goes because my partner…

It hasn't been accidentally in the past. My arms and legs are (and have been since I was a teen) very muscled. My shirts never fit in the upper arm area, even when fit, and my pants are always tight in the thigh. I'm trying to slim them down. But I feel blessed that I don't have to go all eye-buggy. I do enjoy my protein…

Part of the reason it worried me about the "looking bulky" thing, is that I DO have a hormonal imbalance. Nothing major. But I've always ended up with big thighs and arms, and I'd like to avoid it if I can help it. However, big and muscly beats big and flabby for me, so I guess we will see!
-
Yeah. We alternate days and do legs and back, arms, and chest. Fun stuff.

Thank you all so much!!!! I love lifting heavy! I'm only at about 100lbs on the shoulder press max, and I've just been using the bar for bench press. IM ADDING WEIGHTS!
