There was no plastic in any compartment. I think I'm just going to send it back for a replacement...which is really a bummer because I paid for 2-day shipping to get it before labor day weekend. :/

Ok so I put it on as tight as it can go and it was able to read my HR twice after wearing it for about 3 min. Haven't had any other luck since.
