I am right there with you. Half iron in 2015 then the plan is for the Ironman in Madison in 2016. Following a training plan right now, and am starting to look for a coach for the summer and through the ironman. Good luck and feel free to friend me if you want to support each other.

I am Nate, On day 17 here. It has been feeling good to be away from the beer and wine!

Have a big glass of water or club soda before you pick up the snack. Then have carrots, bell peppers ready to snack on. If I crave salt I will take romaine hearts and dip them in a gluten free soy sauce.

You should read up on interval training. Basically you go at race pace or higher for 400 then rest or go very easy till your heart rate has come down then go for the next 400. Your "dread mill" should have an interval program set-up, you could play with that and then take it outside after you see how it works.

I would go. See what you think of the race and if it is one you really want to train hard for next year. Plus there things you can learn while just going at a fun pace. Practice transitions, see if there are pre and post races foods that do you good. Have fun!

Thanks for the encouragement Scott! I guess indoors on the cycle is one of the sacrifices to having a solid race. -Nate

Hi, I'm Nate. I have been around tri's since the early 90's. I used to do international distance and then went down to sprints as the kids came along. This year I only did tri's as a team member as my kids joined in with me. The kids are now teens and I am making some lifestyle changes which will free up some time. I am…

Go for it! And have fun!

Excellent! I am sure you will love it.

Got the e-mail In Grandma's half. :) Hope everyone else who wanted to got in also.

Yes Brainerd has a race, June 14, Sour Grapes as you said. If you haven't found it northlandrunner.com has a great local race list. If you can run 10 miles now, I would guess you could get to 13 mi in two months of planned training.

I have heard good things about Fargo, but I have not done that one myself. The Whistlestop in Ashland is excellent but a fall race. Ham and Walker are great runs but maybe not for a first half. There are a few others in the area I just have not done them or know anyone who has.
-
I put in for the lottery also. Hope you get in, it would be a good one for your first HM, but there are other good ones in MN if you don't.
-
^This. You can find your calorie requirements with one of the calorie calculators. MFP has one, I think it comes up when you set goals.
-
I've been making sure to get out with the dogs every day. Meeting someone at the gym. Of course there is skiing too. Hope you can get out on the shoe shoes, they are a blast!
-
It was a great day to be out (x-skiing for me). Let's hope the winter is changing over to something we can play in now!

On the tread mill with music, Foo Fighters, 3 Doors Down..... Outside, I trail run, so I skip the music, lots of other things to listen to.
-
I like the the young enough to be my child old enough to be my parent rule, hadn't thought of it like that before.
-
I was hoping there would be of few northern MN people that belonged to the group.
-
Bump. Looks like a good one!

Hey follow MN'ers. I am Nate, living in Grand Rapids. I have been a runner my whole life, but trying to add get strong and do other activities now.

180 miles NORTH of #1. But is a sunny cold day. Love the sun!

Hi, Thanks for starting this. I could use the extra focus. Goals for the 4 weeks. Weight down from 146 to 141. Just over a pound a week. No alcohol. Log daily. All meals planned.
-
Log them before eating them. Then ask yourself is it worth it? If yes, then measure out the quantity you logged, then ask yourself is it worth it again?
-
I am starting this goal today. I need to be done to meet my true goals in life.

Something simple I do, when in a rush. Wilt some spinach at the end of cooking the quinoa, throw some feta in, and top with a favorite hot sauce.

I found the plans here worked. Basic plans, but they get you there. http://www.halhigdon.com/training/51130/Half-Marathon-Training-Guide
