Hi there, I "tried" veganism for what I thought might be a little while, that was 6 years ago. ..aaaand I'm still vegan. It's good, inconvenient at worst, and can be a very healthy and ethical lifestyle choice. Have fun!

My tips, from lived experience of being vegan: 1. Don't forget your B12 - take a supplement and use nutritional yeast 2. Learn to love the lentil (or bean, chickpea etc) 3. Be prepared to take your food with you - I'm now in the habit of self catering if I'm not 100% sure of the options where I'm going 4. Don't get too…

Yes! I've only just discovered hiking poles, aren't they awesome? They help the arms get a workout whilst making the actual hike easier

Fortified soy milk & nutritious yeast, which is delish. Its not hard, you just need to be organized

I prefer the metal version too, easier to clean, they can stack like the bamboo version. I use mine every day

Yes! PB2 is the best invention in the history of humanity (ok maybe that was a big call, but that stuff is sensational). Also edamame... actually edamame with a PB2 sauce is one of my favourite things...

home made baked beans on (also home made) sourdough bread with a truckload of kale from the garden...Why? it was dinner and I was hungry. soooo hungry.... (not now though, I couldn't even finish the beans, left them for the hens)

A brief story: I was walking through a mall with some time to kill before an appointment with a client. I stopped at the stall beside some folks who were doing some community education and research about undiagnosed type 2 diabetes. I chatted to them - the diabetes researcher was very skilled, pragmatic, nonjudgemental and…

psyllium husk! I add it to my smoothie of a morning and it keeps me full til lunch. its a strange substance, thickens to a gel if you leave it sit for too long
-
I use PB2 in a whole lot of savoury recipes too - all those things I've been avoiding because of the calories - try it in a satay sauce or dipping sauce for rice paper roles! (I'm obsessed with the stuff...)

Interesting article, thanks for that. Have you read "we have met the enemy" by Daniel Akst (book) also a great read...I recommend it :)

Hi there Skywalker - I'm not a doctor but I work with people who have MS (I'm a cognitive psychologist) in an employment setting. Some of the things that might help out: Have you heard of "cooling attire"? a lot of folks with MS are heat intolerant, and cooling vests and neckties are really effective at managing this.…

I saw this idea on this very forum - pumpkin latte. make your regular black coffee, add unsweetened almond milk and a couple of tablespoons on pumpkin puree with spices.... I also add a teaspoon of coconut sugar. Damn its good. its so creamy! and regular coffee is now oh so boring. I've even converted a few friends...

thanks for the link, what a good idea :)

I use it when I'm making vegan macarons... pancakes biscuits (or cookies for you Americans) coconut crepes are truly amazing - with sugar and lime juice mmmmm throw it in curries if I looking to thicken them a bit the possibilities are endless, once you're used to using it, you'll want to have it on hand all the time.

*sigh* Dads like to approve/disapprove of their daughter's activities when they are adults BECUASE THEY HAVE NOT YET GIVEN UP CONTROL! I have one of those too, and I'm 37! it's OK, I ignore his advice because I'm well aware it is mostly rubbish. Seek advice from people who actually know what they're talking about. No…

I grow it (very easy) so I always have plenty on hand - I eat it twice a day! in the morning - smoothie with citrus juice, usually tangelo, banana and protein powder... then in other meals. Try it chopped finely, steamed and tossed through pasta with a bit of garlic and splash of olive oil...or stirred through mashed sweet…

Gippsland, Victoria! (where it's cold today and I am shivering in front of the heater...)

All of the legitimate, peer reviewed studies (i.e. ACTUAL science, rather than the pseudo science rubbish one sees a lot) indicate that this stuff has no actual impact on anything other than the placebo effect - if you believe it is going to work, then it may. Particularly on appetite which is subject to subconscious…

Howdy - I'm in Gippsland (in the hills near Traralgon). It would be nice to talk to someone else who thinks in METRIC  Leanne

mine was probably what I just ate. YUM. It was a barley salad with lemon dressing - 1 cup cooked barley grains, a few handfuls of fresh spinach (out of the garden) shredded, cubed steamed pumpkin, 20 gms craisins - dressing was juice of half lemon and 2ml of olive oil. damn that was delicious!
