  • Love this idea; so easy that I have to try it this weekend!
  • Great thread; I also have a rebounder/mini trampoline with bungy strap connectors (rather than squeaky springs) for running, and the cardio segments of my fitness DVDs like 30 Day Shred (jumping jacks, jump rope, etc.). I also have a stationary bike and do body weight exercises for strength. My weighted hula hoop is great…
  • What a simple explanation. Saving to share with my FL!
  • Love your NSV, and that it took you by surprise! (The best kind of surprise!) Keep up the great work as you build your fit lifestyle.
  • Just curious; how long is a "long rest interval"?
  • From what I've read, flash-frozen veggies very often have more nutrients intact than the fresh ones that have traveled from the grower to the grocery, and perhaps sat around for a few days. While my brain "gets" that, my palate can't seem to come to terms with the texture of frozen veggies... they never seem to have that…
  • Great progress!
  • Yep; I've noticed that I'm much colder when my weight is down than when I have a blanket of fat covering me! I wear layers year round, and from late Autumn- early Spring I live in my hooded Onesie!
  • "Kina" a/k/a Sea Urchin... eaten raw here in NZ. Caught fresh, smashed on a rock and slurped from its spiny shell. Highly regarded food in my area, and kind of a culinary rite of passage. I keep thinking "I'll have some this time" but then I see the gooey inside and just can't...
  • Wow! Terrific muscles and skin! Which Jillian DVDs did you use, and how often?
  • I'm very pleased with my Polar Fit FT4 (I think they have a newer model out now)... it is just a chest strap with a sensor over the heart, and a watch that displays heartrate, calories burned, time, etc. I'm not very tech-savvy, and find it easy to use. It wasn't too expensive, either. I think I paid around sixty dollars…
  • Marmite? Yuck Avocado Brownies?
  • "Steady State Cardio"... does that mean that interval cardio calories (i.e. wind sprints) burned would not be calculated accurately on the Polar Fit HRM? If not, then would the readings be too low, or too high?
  • I don't know if it is technically 'harder' for me (at age 48) to lose weight, but it is more challenging. It's a fact that metabolism rate does tend to slow with each decade (probably due to loss of muscle mass)... and my older MFP friends can attest to that. The hormonal roller coaster of peri-menopause, menopause, and…
  • I imagine you could have these feelings if the path to fitness seems long, or if you are not clear on the exact reasons why you want to reach your goals. Two weeks does sound fast to feel that way... I would suggest finding MFP friends who share your common fitness goals so that you can help support each other.. the…
  • You may have a golden opportunity with a husband who is a great cook. Would he be willing to "invent" or customize some recipes that the two of you can enjoy and will also be filling and fit into your macros? (Wishing I had a personal chef now!)
  • Thanks for these ideas; I have some ground venison, and was thinking of meatballs but didn't want to put them on pasta... now there are heaps of options!
  • I put in chopped apple, sliced almonds (from the baking aisle), pumpkin pie spice and a bit of manuka honey for sweetness...but the folks who put pureed pumpkin or sweet potato have nabbed my attention, as well as others on this great thread. Keep the ideas coming, folks-- it's the beginning of Autumn on this side of the…
  • I just saw a Jamie Oliver 15 minute meal that used kosher salt, ground black pepper and ground coriander powder. I tried it and was shocked at how flavourful it was!
  • Old but excellent post; I am SO getting a weighted vest... maybe I can get my heartrate (and calorie burn) back where it used to be when I weighed twenty pounds more!
  • I live 7,500 miles away from where I was born. No wonder I don't get to visit the family much!
  • Fantastic suggestions here; thanks to everyone... am seeing many ways to improve my squats!
  • I was already a big water drinker, but weighing my foods and logging everything that goes into my mouth was definitely what helped me get to goal; and is helping me to maintain! Batch cooking and pre-portioning my own "frozen meals" on weekends insures that I don't end up grabbing fast food/pre-packaged processed foods…
  • I just put mine in a bowl in the microwave and zap them for about two to three minutes; not too long as that will make them soggy. Then I toss on whatever sauce I've prepared, and eat. A friend of mine steams hers; again, not too long as to make them too soggy. Super easy, and a tasty alternative to pasta if you are…
  • A few of my MFPs are beyond 1,000, and they swear by continuing to log... because it works for them. I'm somewhere in the 500's and like you, logging has become a part of my life; so I am planning on continuing to weigh my food and log to 1,000 days and well beyond!
  • I'm in a remote rural area in a country that I've never seen a food coupon in... soooo wishing we had them! Here's what I do to keep costs down: -Eat the foods in season (they are generally much less expensive, particularly veggies) -Buy meat/fish/poultry/cheese when it is on special, separate into smaller portions and…
  • Way to go on your progress with losing the weight, and especially on finding affordable, quality clothes in your new size. For me, it made a huge difference to switch to clothes that fit my 'new body', and was a confidence booster that encouraged me to carry on! Well done, and all the best as you continue to build your fit…
  • What a great thread! Whilst we don't have coupons for food items in New Zealand, many of the other tips (such as checking out the specials for the week) would definitely help lower the food bill... and food here is very expensive! Thanks, OP, for starting this discussion, and thanks everyone for posting your super saving…
  • In high school, I wanted to have "light" lunches, so I would eat two slices of NY Cheesecake, a 100,000 dollar bar, and an orange (for vitamins). Every day. I think I was the only one at my school who lost weight as a freshman just escaping those lunches.
  • Thanks so much for posting your discoveries in your four months at maintenance! I find that maintenance is much less "straightforward" than weight loss, and hearing your findings as you navigate the path of maintenance is very encouraging. It is especially comforting to know that the weight gain as the body adapts to a…
