I like the idea of a microwave popping bowl so that I know exactly how much (and what kind of) oil is inside... do they make them in glass?

Good "air travel friendly" snacks for kids can include meusli bars, string cheese sticks, crackers, little bags of nuts (not peanuts as some other folks on the plane could have allergies), hard fruits (think apples/pears rather than a banana, which would squish in your bag and make a mess), those individual boxes of animal…

This is the kind of knife I keep in my checked bag: http://www.amazon.com/Zyliss-31380-Utility-Knife-5-5-Inch/dp/B00421ATJK/ref=sr_1_1?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1393094840&sr=1-1&keywords=travel+knife . It's great because it is super sharp and has a sheath to keep it from puncturing or putting a tear into anything else in…

Hey, just realised I left out the mung bean sprouts in the nutritional tally for the Spicy Thai Cabbage and Chicken Stir Fry... should be: The bean sprouts have: Cals 31, Fat .19, Carbs 6.18, Protein 3.1 Still coming in at 155 cals, or if you want to be fussy about it, you can have 2/3 of a cup of bean sprouts instead of a…

I travelled heaps for about a decade with my old job. When at home, I'd batch cook up my favourite foods, and brown rice or pasta, then let cool and parcel them out into ziptop bag single servings. Label, and pop them into the freezer. Then, before travelling, I'd grab an assortments of bags, put them into a tupperware (to…

I just made a Spicy Thai Cabbage & Chicken Stir Fry: You'll need: A bag of pre-shredded cabbage (Cole Slaw Mix), 1/4 cup of onion, a garlic clove, hot sauce, a teaspoon of vegetable oil, Pam or other spray oil, pureed Thai seasoning, pre-cooked chicken (a rotisserie portion is fine), some chicken stock, a lime and mung…

Hi, I teach at a combined middle/high school... I find that having a Fitbit helps keep me aware of activity levels throughout the day... I often glance at it, then find a reason to run something down the hall (rather than email) or pick something up in the copy room. At lunch, I try to find somewhere to walk, even it it is…

Anything that keeps you near your baby and gets you moving will work. As one poster mentioned, walking with baby gets you both outside and moving when the weather is suitable. Indoors, you can do fitness videos. If you can connect your computer to your television screen, you can find heaps of workouts on Youtube, Fitness…

In high school, I ate cheesecake for lunch every single day. I certainly miss having a huge slice daily! Now, I settle for a bite or two of a shared cheesecake portion when eating out (which is rarely). As for your delicious sounding recipe; I'll give it a go! Would like to try those protein powder cheesecakes, too!

I just entered maintenance before the holidays. Bumped up my calorie goal, but have blown straight past it nearly every day. So far, weight is staying right at goal weight. Will probably bump down the goal for a week or two in mid January, then will "play" with the amounts to keep within a five pound range of goal weight.…

I've been eating mine with pumpkin pie seasoning, a bit of organic honey, chopped apples, sliced almonds, and half a scoop of vanilla protein powder...yummy, full of fibre and protein, and filling. Less than 200 calories, too, which allows me a second "breakfast" of eggs later!

^^ This! I was also very skinny as a child, but have always had big wrists and feet. I have also had bone density scans and have been told that I have "heavy bones". "Big Boned" is not a scientific term, and I think some people think of it as physically larger bones while others think of it as heavier bones. Either way,…

I have done that most of my adult life! Don't feel awkward... with the inconsistent sizing in different brands, the workers in the shop are likely used to it. Plus, when you go to put the pants that didn't fit back, they all go back in the same place. You might be surprised to find you fit a couple of sizes, depending on…

Thank you SO much for posting this. I was mentally doing the math and thinking that 1-1.5 g per pound of body weight sounds like an awful lot of protein! I appreciate your taking the time to share why a more reasonable amount is healthier and still achieves goals of preserving lbm.

I focus on getting 5-7 veggies a day. When I hit that goal, I'm usually far to full to have room for random junk foods. I also make sure I burn cals through intentional exercise every day.

Many congratulations! I just recently hit my goal weight and am finding the Fitbit to be invaluable as well!

Celestial Seasons Sleepy Time tea has valerian in it (but I buy the tincture and add a bit more). Lots of other brands have it as well... just check the labels! :)
