I'm planning have ~225 or so. Maybe more as August looks to have 5 weekends.

I agree a long run of 15-16 is MUCH better than 12 or 13.

great job! now step away from the dreadmill and hit the pavement!
-
I more of a yell at myself (in my head) kind of guy: "come on Jonboy, don't be a little b!tch!"

More miles, more miles, more miles. Just listen to your body as your ramp up. Having good genetics will help too...
-
Great job everyone!

Can you please give us the name of the "toxins" we are trying to get rid of?

this! Bottom line, you must watch your eating - if you use running as a license to eat, then you can gain even at high mileage. I know, I've put on weight while running 50-60 miles per week.

A good month for me (finally) with 238 miles of running.

I'm just the opposite. I like to train for the proper terrain (hills, etc.) but I don't like knowing every inch of the course ahead of time. I'm now at the point where I've done some of the local marathons & halfs 5 or 6 times already, so I know them a little better than I'd like... Training planwise: another vote for…

I knew this thread looked familiar...

I would suggest getting the book Pftizinger's Advance Marathoning. Even if you aren't training for a marathon, it will help the cause. At some point it comes down to genetics. I've run 41 halfs, I run a lot of 1:37 - 1:39 range. I've nosed under 1:30 just twice (on an all downhill course). FWIW - I always say the best…

Sounds like nice workout - not sure on the burn though. Even at my size (~ 180 lbs) not sure I would burn that much.

Nothing really, I find the magazine to be the same recycled stories and useless shoe reviews. I guess I carry that dislike to the website as well. Probably some really good info there for new runners.

Thanks cyberposse! You are far too kind.

anything that is not runnersworld... letsrun is entertaining, but you're considered slow if you can't run a 2:35 marathon

Nice job! I was drinking 6+ cans of Diet Mtn Dew every day. I stopped cold turkey about 6 months ago. Last month I had a couple diet sodas while on vacation, it was no big deal and I've not had one since.

More miles, more miles, more miles. FWIW - for a 1:45 half (~ 8:00 pace), your 5K should be down around 22 minutes (~7:15 pace)
-
what size are you - I have a pair of Sir Issac S size 12 sitting around - ran 5 miles in them
-
Have you raced a half marathon yet? 5K isn't a great predictor for marathons for most of us.
-
I agree - I need to run ~ 5.5 miles to burn 700 calories (I weigh ~ 180). That's ~ 40 minutes if I'm running fast, 50 minutes if I'm running slow. No way in hell could I do that in an hour of softball.

That is a big range in temps - what I wear for 59 is very different than 39, but don't over dress = shorts for sure! Bring an old sweatshirt as a throw away for the start. You can warm up and ditch it once you break a sweat in a couple miles. Just keep rolling on your training and start figuring out what kinds of nutrition…

I'm a CPA with a masters in taxation. It was a great use of time and money (went back to school after working for 4 or 5 years), as my masters threw my career in a whole new (better) direction. I also have a CFP and some other financial planning designations.

Your body is in starvation mode - eat more!

I do TRX a couple times a week at a boutique TRX specific gym. There are students of all shapes and sizes. You can adjust the effort/resistance based on the where you position your body. TRX is awesome for strength, core and flexibility. At the gym I could ignore the things that were tough (core, etc.) and go bench press…

Personally, I vote NO! But then again, I tend to dislike all things runners world. Just a matter of whether or not you value the extras at $250 or not.

It's a good race! We stayed at the Embassy. Don't be fooled by the "mile only" old elevation chart, the course rolls a ton (lots of ups in the downs and downs in the ups). Not sure if they've updated it or not. Here's my old race report from a site I used to post at:…

Depends on the shoe and the runner. I can get 400 or so miles per pair. After that I start to feel "shin splinty" I run out of two of the same pairs of shoes and rotate them each run.
-
Slow down! Dreadmill should help the cause a bit, elliptical doesn't prepare you for the pounding. Go outside and find an easy pace that you can hold. Good luck!
