It doesn't appeal to me, but I have read a couple of articles about the benefits of it for type 2 diabetes, because it doesn't appeal to me I've never really looked further into it, don't know if I would be able to maintain my exercise on the fast days!!

Apparently someone found this food log (yes my mind went there as well), just not sure how you would log it, would it be cups or weight???

It depends on how you are going to view working harder for exercise. I know people who miss a workout because of work/family/circumstances so will then burst themselves the following day by doing 2 workouts to make up for the one that's missed, or run long runs 3 days in a row, therefore increasing chance of injury. To me,…

The only thing I'll spend money on is proper running shoes and good running bra's, everything else is cheap and cheerful, with 1 exception and that was my Gore Windstop running tights which cost me £99 but are honestly the best thing for running in winter and avoiding chill blains!!!

If you're new to running, maybe take it down a notch from 4 days a week to 3 days a week and make sure you take a day in between each run and do a different cardio activity. I've only moved up onto running 4 days a week when I started marathon training, all runs last year I never ran 2 days in a row, most 'new to running'…

It depends, are you currently trying to lose weight?? If you're trying to lose weight then I would be eating back some of the exercise calories (maybe up to 50% of them depending on how many calories I was eating and how much exercise I was doing), if you're maintaining weight (or trying to gain) then you should be eatng…

What about something on the concept of 'fad' diets, do they understand what these diets are and why they don't work long term?? Or something about eating healthy v's eating artifical (i.e. low fat options that are actually high in sugar or artifical crap that the bodies can't process), good fats (fish/nuts etc) v's bad…

Well done, clearly you got past the sore phase and have kept going. Keep it up.

UK person here, I've started my taper for the Edinburgh Marathon 24th May, first marathon (haven't even done a half marathon except in my training runs before), my goal in my first one will just be to complete it, there's a time limit of 6.5hrs and according to my training I should be fine with that, but there's still a…

Maybe you need to up the weight, when I'm in the weights class if we can manage 3x15 reps then the weight isn't heavy enough (although that does plateau when you get heavy or if the jumps quite big i.e. 15kg dumbells to 17.5kg, in this case I increas the intensity of the push until I can move up).

Pay more for your first pair from the shop and then next pair get them from online retailer cheaper:)

Are you just starting exercise?? What is your daily calorie goal (and are you actually eating those calories and some of the exercise calories back)??? I'm very tired today, but I can put that down to a 20 mile run on Sunday, followed by a PT session that was cardio based, I've eaten extra calories today to compensate!!

I would say to get your gait analysis done at a running store, maybe buy your first pair of shoes there and then buy subsequent pairs online where you can get them cheaper, proper fitting shoes are an investment:)

I don't carry water, mainly because I hate carrying things, training for a 5k, unless it;s incredibly hot you probably don't need water, but it's personal choice (are you carrying it because it's habit, or because you do actually need it). I live in a cool climate so I can run for 2hrs before stopping at the car for water…

make your own!! squeezed lemon/orange/lime/tangerine (whatever you prefer), salt and water (I would normally use 1 teaspoon of salt to 1 litre of water and about 1/4 cup of two or more citrus fruits squeezed)
-
What do you mean by 'walking shoes' and 'fitness store'?? Did they do gait analysis before recommending several different shoes for you to try?? Does it happen when you walk outside??

Ride the horse, dog runs at the side, 2 birds 1 stone!!!!! Or should that be 3 birds 1 stone (me, horse and dog), very efficient!!

I put my phone in an armband and my key in the pocket in my running tights (I don't buy underarmour for the specific reason that they don't have a pocket in the shorts/tights)!!!! I see a lot of people using these, especially in races, covers everything, phone, keys & water…

Some people can run every day with no problems but a lot of us can't without picking up injuries. I used to run 3 days a week with a day in between runs (I would do a bootcamp or weights or something else for 3 of those days), currently I'm running 4 days a week because I'm training for a marathon (looked at Ultra marathon…

Check out this thread, she's an Ultra Runner and pretty much covers off most questions. http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/1217573-so-you-want-to-start-running?hl=so+you+want+to+start+running Are you running far enough?? I really struggle for the first 3miles (5k races my times are shocking), however after about…

It's possibly a bit mis-leading but think of the muscles that Mo Farrah has built, whilst it doesn't show you him practicing with weights you can guarantee he lifts weights to build the muscles and the protein is needed for repairing the muscles. I'm sure when he's out doing his long runs he'll be using carbs as fuel for…

You need to calculate you TDEE to get a better idea of how many calories you should be looking to eat (deduct 20% for weight loss), program that into MFP as your calorie goal and then weigh and log everything so that you know you're within your calorie goal. Just because the food is healthy doesn't mean that you aren't…

Good Luck, out of curiosity why have you pick 8k x 100?? I have done a 5x50 before and discovered for myself why they don't recommend running everyday (I still have problems with my achilles 18mnths later), the 5x50 worked in it got me out running but I now have a structured running plan and I'm currently running 4 days a…

Might leave a normal bra behind, but wouldn't leave a sports bra behind (do you know how much they cost)!!

You can go past the obstacles if needed, I know that the ones I've been to they have always advised at the start that if you can't swim, don't get in the water (I know that the person that drowned could swim, but if you have issues with jumping into the water you don't have to do it). Our guys have always loved it and they…

Nah the rain cools you down (and if you've not been running fast you can pretend it's sweat). I'm glad I'm not the only one with moer running shoes than normal shoes, more running bras than normal bra's and have more t-shirts from events that I've completed than I've bought!!! Need to add in when you start entering events…

Think of your body as an engine, if you want the engine to go further and/or do more you have to put more fuel in the tank, eat back the calories that you're using for exercise, 1200 calories always seems rather extreme to me as it's the default setting for MFP when you put in you want to lose 2lb a week, I'm eating over…

Please remember that weight is only 1 measurement, based on your height and weight you're within an average BMI, I think insanity would certainly help tone and get towards where you want to be, but remember insanity has it's own nutrition program for a reason, you will need those extra calories if you're doing Insanity…

I only go to the gym for my PT appointments and a weights class once a week, everything else is done outside, I run with the dog rather than walk, outdoor bootcamps (I get on with all the people that go so it's like seeing my friends for an hour we all just happen to be sweating). Yes I could lose weight just through my…

Think the theory behind this is that the more miles you do the easier it becomes and therefore the speed will come itself, there's no point in someone that's just started off running trying to sprint a 5k as the muscles won't have been conditioned for it. If you increase you mileage from 3.1miles to 6.2miles and then go…
