Good evening everyone! For those of you still reading this thread, I have adopted the advice above, including: lessening the intensity of my cardio workout, including the duration of the workout. Also, I discovered my protein shake has NO sugar in it (as a reminder/for those who haven't read this thread before, my initial…

Okay--will do. Thanks for the advice. To be continued...

I do 30 minutes of cardio on an exercise bike--doing 8 miles in all. I also finish with about 20 minutes of weight resistance training. On a scale of how difficult the session is, the exercise bike is a 9 on a scale of 1-10 (I push myself hard when on the exercise bike. I try to go faster than the time before.) When…

Quiksylver: I started only today tracking my food. So far, I have eaten too much sodium; sugar; and carbs and only have about 200 calories to spare for the rest of the day. Yet I think I ate less on the weekends (and generally do eat less when I'm not at work.)
-
Quiksylver: That particular day I had about 75 grams of protein via protein shake. I didn't count carbs (it sounds like I need to.) MikePTY: my protein shake has 2 to 3 grams per serving. Should I have the carbs prior to the workout or after? I've been told by the PF trainer to consume the shake after the workout. Your…

Quiksilver: probably at least 2500 daily. I took more protein shake once the sleepiness set in after the workout. Should I be eating more food/carbs/other instead?

Thanks to all who responded to my question. For convenience sake, here are the links to the 2 articles referred to by other members (i.e. Helms' meta analysis and Schoenfelds work also.) https://jissn.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.1186/s12970-018-0215-1 https://bjsm.bmj.com/content/early/2017/07/11/bjsports-2017-097608

JorrunFulhelm: you asked what my stats are. Today I rode the exercise bike for 40 minutes and lifted weights for anout 25 minutes (rear delt; back extension; leg curl; overhead press.) I guess I'm concerned about the timing of consuming the shake as I generally drink water every 15 to 20 minutes while exercising (and i…

Springflute: I think he thinks I have irritable bowel syndrome. I am having a colonoscopy done. (Forgive me if that's TMI. Posting My symptoms would definitely fall into the TMI category.) Thanks!

Fuzzipeg: My headaches are caused by anxiety. I'm about to change jobs (which is a good thing--but it's a big chance.) But I'm meditating every week--sometimes 3 to 4 times a week (though I know I have to do that more often.) No easy fix.

To all: Gearhead426 asked: "What brought on the stomach problems?" I've been taking alleve recently to get rid of tension headaches (tylenol doesn't work as well.) I think alleve has caused the stomach problems but I'm not sure. Your continued thoughts are welcome!

Thanks Meandering.

To all: I found out today (after an emergency appointment with the chiropractor--as the pain got worse overnight) that I have degenerative disc disease (a/k/a degenerative joint disease.) The Doc gave me stretching exercises which he said would help. He cautioned me when taking yoga not to keep up with the instructor…

Thank you all for your advice! I will look for a yoga class in town today. Hope you all have a great week!

What is causing/caused my back pain is the following: years ago, I would carry too much on my back on my way to work. Now, I can throw my back out when merely putting my laptop over my shoulder--or sometimes I wake up finding myself having slept on my side. I have no slipped disks or anything like that--I've been X-rayed…

To Cherimoose (et all) Thanks for the advice--especially the website for lifting and people in my age bracket.

Thank you! I appreciate your help!

Thank you all for your help! @jruzer: when I said "what's the healthiest option" I basically meant could I skip lunch, workout and still be healthy? My plan during lunch break is to do the leg press and any other workout that will help me build muscle mass. I have an exercise bike at home but I want to work out at lunch…

To all, Thanks for the posts! I know I can do it now. Noodle5975--I know by moving my alarm clock to my exercise room, I'll have enough incentive to go work out in the room after turning the alarm off. Ninav1980: My goals (in part) are to lose 25 lbs (lost 5 lbs via Weightwatchers as of yesterday); but also to get in shape…

To all, Thanks for the information. I learned from you all. I think to achieve my goals I'm just going to have to go back to training in martial arts (my work schedule has stopped me from finding the time to do that. But I'm going to have to find time to do that now to achieve my goals and to get back to something I really…

Thank you all for your responses! I just wanted to add one very important detail--by exercising, I'm trying to prevent Type 2 diabetes--and if possible, lose weight at the same time. Thanks!

To all, Thanks for all the helpful suggestions/personal anecdotes. BTW Phorg1, the pushups aren't in addition to a proper workout template that covers all muscle groups. For some ridiculous reason, I thought if I did pushups regularly that would help prevent Type 2 diabetes (type 2 diabetes runs in the family; and I've…

To Cstoney and Stage14: My goal was to be able to do 50 pushups at once. I've completely stopped doing the pushups--and I don't feel any tingling pain. Though I'm reluctant to start up a pushup routine (even at a smaller scale/intensity level) without seeing a doctor. Thank you both.
