In reading other posts on these boards, I come across very different views on food addiction. They range from I am a food addict to food addiction doesn't exist. So how do you know if you are a food addict or not? For me, a book I read had a questionnaire that I scored all but one point on, indicating that I would be a…

Hi, from southern Minnesota, USA, I successfully did last month's challenge of 10,000 steps a day for a total of over 310,000steps with two days to spare. I'm trying to hit 100 miles on my pedometer this month. The weather is great and MN has lots of great walking trails.

Nyiballs, your tips are exactly what the research into food addiction recommends for food addicts. As not everyone on MFP is a food addict, some will scoff at what you posted. One of the important concepts I've learned in the last year and a half is to "protect my program", even going so far as to tell people "My doctor…

JessaAnn, I found new motivation by finding activities and social opportunities at www.meetup.com; it is a free site that groups register on. You type in your location and a distance radius and you get choices you can narrow down by categories. I found a walking group that I'm joining this summer. I find the more socially…

Today I will turn work into recreation by playing music, having fun and enjoying being with fun people I like. Then after working at my job, I will turn my yard work into fun by creating a trellis from branches pruned. How about you?

I'm 12 hrs into a 24 hrs excuse tracking exercise. 4 pages of crap so far which is like a huge wake-up call already and I have 12 hours to go. (I decided to not count time sleeping so it's really 48.)

I did have success with The Hunger Fix as I lost 113 lbs. I haven't seen results the last few months since the injury (leg fracture and then shin splints) really make it tough to exercise at the intensity I need then stress and supportive co-workers....right now I'm writing down every reason/excuse/rationalization I use to…

Hi! I am so glad I prefer to make my own food and I don't like fast food or soda. I grew up eating fresh/home canned foods and we drank water. My food of choice is anything made with white flour, sugar, potatoes. I had already lost 113 lbs last year, regained 22 after getting hurt this spring at work and stressful stuff. I…

Auntyfred, you are quite correct; not bad at all! Congratulations on reaching your 100 with a day to spare!

Passed the 310,000 steps today with 2 days to spare.

Www.fitnessmagazine.com has great easy recipes; I got a chili black bean recipe last fall there.

Normal. You'll adjust to it.

It's Monday night, after a 4 day weekend, and just thinking about going into work tomorrow is making me crave junk food. I have a good job, it's just this one person who totally stresses me out. I have used the policies to deal with it and I am actively working on coping skills to use but every week it's the same stressed…

I suggest adding a protein, vegetable/fruit snack at say 10 and 2. Your body needs protein, fiber, and it will surprise y o u how much better you think and feel. I usually have hummus and carrots or cucumbers, Apple with peanut butter or cheese, egg white frittata that I make and freeze in 1/2c portions ready for snacks,…

100,032 steps left to take....

Oatmeal with dried cranberries and walnuts and COFFEE for breakfast. Good luck with your contest.

175,534 steps left to take. A bit under for my 10,000 a day as I have developed shin splints after exercising too much following an injury at work. But I am just taking short walks multiple times a day to get in what I can tolerate.

I was just as scared, nervous, unsure, you name it, when I gave up white flour, potatoes, switched to whole grains (and very little of those), and virtually all added sugars. But after the first three weeks, the cravings were gone. I also found that the books and research articles I was reading were right, relapsing made…

Good for you, you made a change. Every journey starts with one step, right? And you creating a support network here for both the good days and the not so good. Keep updating us!

For me, I go back to the basics, i.e. my emotions. Emotional eating is an attempt to cope without actually addressing the cause of the emotion. So I ask myself or actually write down "what am I really feeling?" and I go deeper than happy, sad, angry. Then I ask myself "what do I need?" which I am really good at ignoring or…

Hi, I'm tracking steps so at 10,000 steps a day times 31 days = 310,000 steps. That seems like a lot. But every journey starts with that first step so I'm off to walk with the dog.

I'm trained to block the punch and RUN; not a new exercise routine I want to try.

Quaker old fashioned oats 1/2 cup 1 tablespoon or so of dried fruit like cranberries or apricots 1tablespoon chopped walnuts 1/4tsp cinnamon pinch of salt 3/4 c water Microwave 2 minutes, stir(add a little milk), let sit a few minutes to cool. Try it! Instant oatmeal and quick cooking both turn to goo so avoid them. Steel…
